Cameroon hand debut call ups for Namaso and Ngoumou for World Cup qualifiers

Cameroon head coach Marc Brys has handed first-time call-ups to Dany Namaso and Nathan Ngoumou as the Indomitable Lions prepare for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Eswatini snd Libya this month.
Both forwards have impressed at club level, with Namaso (Porto) excelling in Portugal's Primeira Liga and Ngoumou (Borussia Mönchengladbach) making an impact in the Bundesliga.
Their selection indicates Brys' desire to broaden his attacking options as Cameroon seeks to solidify its position at the top of Group D ahead of the matches against Eswatini on March 19 in Nelspruit and Libya on March 25 in Yaoundé.
Another key talking point is the inclusion of André-Franck Zambo Anguissa.
The Napoli midfielder, who was initially doubtful due to fitness concerns, has made the final squad and is expected to play a pivotal role in Cameroon's midfield.
His presence is a significant boost as the team prepares for two crucial fixtures.
The squad also marks the return of Joyskim Dawa and Ignatius Ganago.
Dawa, a solid defensive presence, has not been called up since September 2021, while Ganago, a versatile forward, last featured for Cameroon in 2023.
Their recalls suggest Brys is keen on adding depth and experience to the squad.
One of the most notable omissions is goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa, a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations champion.
Ondoa, who has been a key part of previous national team setups, has been left out as Brys opts for a different goalkeeping selection.
Currently leading Group D in the CAF World Cup qualifiers, Cameroon will be aiming to consolidate its position with strong performances against Eswatini and Libya.
