Apple brings this Google's Android-like feature in iOS 26 – powered by Apple Intelligence

has unveiled significant enhancements to the iPhone's core Phone application – powered by
Apple Intelligence
. The company has introduced a unified layout and innovative features designed to streamline communication and minimise unwanted interruptions for users. The update is similar to Android's call screening feature that Google announced three years ago.
Apple launches Call Screening and Hold Assist
According to Apple, these updates aim to make the fundamental iPhone experience more intuitive and efficient. Building on the existing Live Voicemail capability, a new feature called Call Screening will now allow users to handle incoming calls more easily.
This 'intelligent' function will gather information from the caller in real-time, providing users with crucial details to help them decide whether to answer or disregard the call. This aims to significantly reduce interruptions from unwanted or unknown callers.
Furthermore, for those often left waiting on hold, Apple is introducing Hold Assist. This feature will notify users when a live agent becomes available, eliminating the need to constantly monitor the call while on hold.
Call Screening supports Cantonese (China mainland, Hong Kong, Macao), English (US, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Africa, UK), French (Canada, France), German (Germany), Japanese (Japan), Korean (Korea), Mandarin Chinese (China mainland, Taiwan, Macao), Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish (US, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Spain).
Hold Assist supports English (US, Australia, Canada, India, Singapore, UK), French (France), Spanish (US, Mexico, Spain), German (Germany), Portuguese (Brazil), Japanese (Japan), and Mandarin Chinese (mainland China).
Phone App gets a complete revamp
Apple has also revamped its Phone app. Central to the revamped Phone app is a consolidated interface that brings together Favorites, Recents, and Voicemails into a single, easily navigable location. This streamlined design will offer users convenience and accessibility for managing calls and contacts.

The tech giant is releasing updated Application Programming Interfaces so that developers can begin adapting their apps ahead of the release of the new design later this year. The company said that it is also making new additions of Apple Intelligence to its operating system, including Live Translation. Image Playground is also getting a new feature boost with the incorporation of OpenAI's ChatGPT. Apple will also let users learn more about what's on their iPhone screens with the help of Visual Intelligence. Users can search about images on their iPhones across Google, Etsy, and other supported apps. If the tool finds out that you are viewing an event, iOS 26 will suggest that you add it to your calendar. Additionally, the tech giant said that it would add generative AI to its Xcode coding tools that can help developers write code, test it and resolve errors.
