CCP approves foreign acquisition in advertising and media firms
The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) in Wednesday granted approval for three separate merger transactions, allowing M/s. Berkeley Square Holding BV to acquire 50 percent shareholding of Ogilvy & Mather Pakistan (Private) Limited, Mindshare Pakistan (Private) Limited, and Soho Square Pakistan (Private) Limited from Taher Anwar Khan. According to a statement, the acquisition in the case of Mindshare also involved M/s. Interflow Communications (Private) Limited as a seller. The acquirer, Berkeley Square Holding BV, is a Netherlands-based holding company and an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of WPP plc, one of the world's largest communications and advertising conglomerates headquartered in London, UK. WPP provides creative transformation services globally, including Pakistan through its local subsidiaries. Following these approvals, WPP plc will attain controlling interest in the three companies, enhancing its strategic presence in Pakistan's media and advertising services sector. Restrictive trade practices may attract Rs75 million fine, says CCP The relevant markets identified during the reviews were 'Advertising Services' and 'Media Services' within the geographic boundary of Pakistan. After evaluating each case, the Commission concluded that the proposed acquisitions would not result in the creation or strengthening of a dominant position in the relevant markets, nor would they substantially lessen competition in Pakistan. The Commission, while approving the transactions, ensured that there are no significant entry barriers or risks of market concentration that could harm competitive dynamics. All approvals were granted under Section 31(1)(d)(i) of the Competition Act, 2010.

Palm oil rebounds on anticipation of India's strong demand
JAKARTA: Malaysian palm oil futures reversed losses and closed higher on Wednesday after the prospect of stocks rising for the third consecutive month in May pressured the market earlier in the day. The benchmark palm oil contract for August delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange gained 16 ringgit, or 0.41%, to 3,950 ringgit ($930.73) a metric ton at the close. 'Palm oil prices seen rebounding in anticipation of a strong demand from India after the import duty reduction last week,' said Anilkumar Bagani, head of research at Mumbai-based vegetable oil broker Sunvin Group. India's palm oil imports in May surged to a six-month high, as lower inventories and the tropical oil's discount to rival soyoil and sunflower oil prompted refiners to increase purchases. Dalian's most-active soyoil contract rose 0.13%, while its palm oil contract declined 0.73%. Soyoil prices on the Chicago Board of Trade gained 0.51%. Palm oil tracks the price movements of rival edible oils as it competes for a share of the global vegetable oils market. India's May palm oil imports jump to six-month high Malaysia's palm oil inventories are projected to climb for the third consecutive month in May, driven by a modest recovery in production despite robust export demand, a Reuters survey showed on Wednesday. Independent inspector AmSpec Agri Malaysia estimated exports of Malaysian palm oil products to have risen 13.2% in May, while cargo surveyor Intertek Testing Services projected a 17.9% jump. Oil prices held steady on Wednesday as concerns around the OPEC+ groups' next output increase were offset by Canadiansupply pressures due to wildfires there, while global trade tensions continue to linger. Weaker crude oil futures make palm a less attractive option for biodiesel feedstock. The ringgit, palm's currency of trade, strengthened 0.09% against the dollar, making the commodity slightly more expensive for buyers holding foreign currencies.

Iron ore rebounds on short covering; seasonally slow demand curbs gains
BEIJING: Iron ore futures prices rebounded on Wednesday, as some investors closed their short positions to cash in profits, although anticipation of seasonally slower demand capped gains. The most-traded September iron ore contract on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) closed daytime trade 1.37% higher at 704.5 yuan ($97.98) a metric ton, after hitting a nearly two-month low the day before. The benchmark July iron ore on the Singapore Exchange was 0.95% higher at $95.2 a ton, as of 0757 GMT. Prices have fallen dramatically in the past few days, leaving futures prices at a level lower than spot prices, which means limited downside room for futures in the near term, said Steven Yu, senior analyst at consultancy Mysteel. 'That has propelled some shorts to wind up their positions as hot metal output is likely to hover around 2.4 million tons in June; a more drastic price fall will only show up until fundamentals deteriorate further,' Yu added. Average daily hot metal output, a gauge of iron ore demand, dipped by 0.7% from the prior week to 2.42 million tons as of May 30. This is 2.6% higher than the same period a year before, Mysteel data showed. Pei Hao, a senior analyst at international brokerage Freight Investor Services, believes the bounce in ore prices is somewhat influenced by the rally in coal and coke prices. Other steelmaking ingredients, coking coal and coke , rallied by 7.19% and 5.72%, respectively, after touching nearly nine-year lows on Tuesday. Expectations of a reduced supply contributed to the price surge in the coal market, said analysts. Iron ore set for weekly gain on resilient demand despite Trump tariff shock 'We have liquidated all our short positions today,' said a Singapore-based coal trader on condition of anonymity. Steel benchmarks on the Shanghai Futures Exchange posted gains. Rebar added 1.57%, hot-rolled coil gained 1.61%, wire rod advanced 1.14% and stainless steel ticked 0.59% higher.
