Local team wins 10 medals at British Championships

Yahoo24-05-2025

A local team has returned triumphant with 10 medals from the British Sit Down Arm Wrestling Championships.
Grizzly Grip, a Woodley-based arm wrestling and grip team, saw all four of its competitors excel at the event in Sussex.
The team members were Mark McGinley from Woodley, Ben McGibbon from Bracknell, and Dean and Owen Carden, both from Tilehurst.
Dean Carden clinched four medals, including first place in both Left Arm Novice 95kg+ and Right Arm Novice -95kg categories.
His outstanding performance also saw him secure third place in both Left Arm Overalls and Left Arm Professional -95kg, earning him professional status in sit-down arm wrestling.
His brother Owen, who previously established himself as a stand-up arm wrestler, earned two medals in his first sit-down competition, securing second place in both the Left Arm Novice 95kg+ and Right Arm Novice 95kg+ categories.
Mark McGinley took home three medals, including first place in the professional super heavyweight division left arm, and second and third places in the left arm overalls and professional super heavyweight right arm, respectively.
Ben McGibbon rounded off the team's success by securing third place in the right arm professional class -95kg.
Mark and Ben, who started competing as novices in 2022 and became novice champions, have continued to participate every year since, either winning or placing.
This year was particularly special as they competed under the Grizzly Grip banner for the first time.
The team expressed their gratitude to the British Sit Down Arm Wrestling Association and the Sussex Arm Wrestling Team for organising the event.

Anonymous – Inter Milan Captain Fails To Get Into The Game In 5-0 Champions League Final Loss Vs PSG Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez ended up cutting an anonymous figure in yesterday's Champions League final between PSG and Inter Milan. This is the view in today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. Advertisement Inter captain Lautaro Martinez did everything to be available against Paris Saint-Germain yesterday. The Argentine had been absent for a few weeks with a thigh problem. This was something he had suffered during Inter's Champions League semifinal tie against Barcelona. However, returning against PSG for the final was always going to be the priority. In truth, however, Martinez hardly need have bothered. (Photo by) Lautaro Martinez did try to help his team up the pitch. The 27-year-old battled with Paris Saint-Germain defender Willian Pacho. He would try to chest down the ball and gain some ground to get Inter into the Parisians' half. Advertisement Moreover, Martinez would drop deeper at times. He would aim to offer support in the midfield battle in which PSG were overrunning Inter. Then, the Nerazzurri captain would pick up his head to try and spring a quick add with a forward or diagonal pass. However, in truth, none of this was really to any sort of avail. Time and time again, the PSG defense dealt with Martinez comfortably. And the Argentine lacked the quality or presence in the penalty area to create any real danger.

Here's what Darryl Sittler's historic Maple Leafs sweater fetched at auction

If you were hoping to get your hands on a significant piece of Maple Leafs history, you're out of luck. An anonymous bidder has paid $143,030 for the sweater that Darryl Sittler wore when he recorded 10 points in a Leafs victory against the Boston Bruins on Feb. 7, 1976. The sale was made via Los Angeles-based Grey Flannel Auctions. The starting bid in the online auction, which opened on May 12 and closed on June 1, was $10,000. A total of 29 bids were made. Nearly 50 years after the historic performance, Sittler's 10 points remain a National Hockey League record for one game. That night at Maple Leafs Gardens, the Leafs captain had six goals and four assists as the Leafs shelled Bruins goalie Dave Reece in an 11-4 Toronto win. Reece, who faced 40 shots that night, didn't play in an NHL game again. All 14 of his career games came during the 1975-76 season with the Bruins. The previous record for most points in an NHL game was eight, done by Maurice Richard of the Montreal Canadiens during the 1944-45 season. Since Sittler's extraordinary performance, 12 players have recorded eight points in a game, but no one has had nine. Most recently, Sam Gagner, with the Edmonton Oilers at the time, had eight points (four goals and four assists) on Feb. 2, 2012, in an 8-4 win against the Chicago Blackhawks. Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux both posted two eight-point games during their legendary careers. A game-worn sweater belonging to Gretzky, meanwhile, during his tenure with the New York Rangers sold for $295,492 via Grey Flannel Auctions. The autographed sweater is rare: On April 7, 1998, in a game against the Montreal Canadiens, Gretzky wore the captain's 'C' as Rangers captain Brian Leetch was out of the lineup because he was sick. Gretzky, who retired following the next season, scored the 884th goal of his NHL career that night in a 3-2 Rangers loss. tkoshan@ X: @koshtorontosun Maple Leafs need to keep Easton Cowan and give him a legitimate shot A look at Brad Treliving's work two years into his tenure as Maple Leafs GM

Former Ravens kicker Justin Tucker's Maryland mansion to hit market

Former Ravens kicker Justin Tucker's 6,000-plus-square-foot home in Owings Mills is set to hit the market on Friday, with an asking price of $3.2 million. The house, a brick and stone colonial, features five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, as well as an open floor plan, large windows, an exercise room and a three-car garage. The exterior includes a grilling area, an outdoor pool with multiple seating areas and a converted patio with an outdoor fireplace. The property HOA fees are $1,874 per year and real estate taxes of $18,152 per year, the listing said. The property was purchased for $1.8 million by a limited liability corporation in 2019. The resident agent of the corporation is listed as David Miller, founder and principal of Owings Mills-based Terrain Title & Escrow Company. Miller declined to provide information regarding the corporation and its connection to Tucker. The Baltimore Sun linked Tucker to the address through property records it reviewed, as well as cross-referencing images from the property listing with his Instagram posts of his home. The listing agent, Jeremy Batoff of The Batoff Group, did not respond to requests for comment by The Sun by publication. The longtime Ravens kicker was released from his contract in May after more than a dozen Baltimore-area massage therapists accused him of sexual misconduct. The NFL's internal investigation is ongoing and could lead to a possible suspension. Tucker has denied all allegations and has not been charged criminally. He also has not faced civil litigation.
