Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service were called to the prison but Mahir Abdulrahman was pronounced dead at the scene around an hour later.
A post mortem later revealed he had suffered injuries including swelling to his right cheek and on the left side of his neck. He also suffered deep bruising to his brain and facial tissue.

The cause of death was determined as a sub arachnoid basal haemorrhage – bleeding to the area of the brain.
CCTV footage from the prison shared by Leicestershire Police captures the moments before and after the callous attack.

It revealed Mahir Abdulrahman's cell had been unlocked by a prison officer in the morning, who had then continued their rounds.
The footage then revealed Robinson smirking in the corridor outside Smith's cell before emerging topless and entering his cell. Smith and Robinson emerge and calmly walk away from the cell just 37 seconds later, leaving Abdulrahman to die. Smith was then seen to re-enter the cell and exit again shortly after having carried out the violent assault.

On Thursday, May 29, Smith was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court after being found guilty of the murder of Mahir Abdulrahman, who was also known as Mahir Mohamed, following trial. He was sentenced to life to serve a minimum of 17.5 years.
Robinson was found not guilty of murder but found guilty of the manslaughter of Mahir Abdulrahman following the trial. He was sentenced to 11 years imprisonment. A third defendant Shaan Karim, 38, was found not guilty of murder and not guilty of manslaughter.

Detective Inspector Mark Parish, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: 'The injuries suffered by Mahir Abdulrahman showed a serious, sustained attack had taken place which ultimately led to his death.
'Thanks to the hard work of the investigation team, Smith and Robinson have been convicted in court and will now have to face responsibility for their actions.'
Serco Prison Director Wyn Jones said: 'Any death in prison is a tragedy but the murder of Mr Abdulrahman was a heinous act. My thoughts remain with his family and those affected by his untimely death. Since the tragedy, our focus has been to bring those responsible to justice by working with the police to secure a conviction. I hope the verdicts will bring closure for his family.'

Mum says she 'felt violated' after discovering note on son's pram at Butlin's

A disabled mum went to the Skegness holiday park with her two children last month and was left furious when she discovered her four-year-old's pram had been stolen A disabled mother was left feeling "utterly violated" after her son's pram was nicked during a family jaunt to Butlin's. The incident occurred at the Skegness holiday park last month while Sophie, 38, was with her two children. Sophie alleges that the pushchair was pinched from the trolley area outside the swimming pool. Struggling to return to their flat with her 10 year old daughter and four year old son, Sophie reached out to Butlin's for assistance but claims she was advised to rent one for the remainder of their stay at a cost of £21. ‌ To add insult to injury, three days later, her pram was discovered with a post-it note attached stating: "Loaned for 5 min, sorry + thank you." ‌ The single mother shared her ordeal with Manchester Evening News, saying: "It was more the inconvenience of it. I'm disabled, so is my daughter. We came out of swimming carrying a heavy bag of wet clothes and had to phone Butlin's for someone to come and help me because I only made it half way back to the apartment. "My daughter, was overly distressed by the situation. We had to hire another one. They wouldn't even look at the CCTV." Sophie, from Derbyshire, suggested to the company that a ticket system should be implemented for collecting prams to prevent future thefts, but claims they "aren't interested", reported the Mirror. "Three days after it went it was thrown over the swimming pool fence into the external pram park with a note saying it had been borrowed for five minutes," she recounted. "A friend of mine found it and when we went to pick it up. We heard on the walkie talkies that another pram had just gone, it happens all the time." ‌ The mum expressed her discomfort upon retrieving the stroller, saying she "wasn't even that happy to have it back" after it had been in someone else's possession. "I felt utterly violated," she explained. "My little boy's pram had been in someone else's apartment and they had been using it. I felt so scummy using it." Sophie, who visited the holiday park in mid-May, took to a Butlin's Skegness Resort Facebook community page to expose the theft, which led to an uproar among parents who were appalled by the audacity of taking another's pram. One parent decried the lack of security, stating, "Scum, it's about time Butlin's had CCTV or even security in buggy areas," while another was baffled by the act: "How on earth can someone actually think that's ok to do that,". Another parent scrutinised the thief's motives, commenting, "The question is whoever has borrowed it, why have they gone away without a pram if they need one. Very entitled behaviour and I'd be fuming." The Mirror has sought Butlins' response to the incident.

Speedboat reported to be harassing Orcas off the Moray Coast

A speedboat has been spotted harassing a pod of Orcas off the Moray coast. The boat reportedly crossed the path of the Killer Whales, which disturbed their course near Findochty. The incident is said to have happened at around 7am on Friday June 6. Orcas are often seen around the north of Scotland and the Outer Hebrides. Police say they received a report of the Orcas being 'deliberately disturbed' in Moray and are now appealing for information regarding the incident. Constable Smith, from Buckie Police Office, said: 'It is great to see these animals around the Moray coast. 'However, it is an offence to intentionally or recklessly harass or disturb a dolphin, whale, porpoise or basking shark. 'I would appeal to any members of the public in the area at the time who may have witnessed this incident to please contact Police Scotland on 101.' Anyone with information that could help officers can use incident number PS-20250607-1208.
