BlackRock launches Texas ETF as state draws investor interest

Zawyaa day ago

BlackRock said on Tuesday it had launched a Texas-focused exchange-traded fund, as the state gains traction as a rising hub of economic activity in the United States.
The Lone Star State's low taxes, business-friendly policies and growing tech and energy sectors have attracted investors and asset managers looking to tap into its long-term growth potential.
BlackRock said iShares Texas Equity ETF will invest in companies headquartered in the state.
The world's largest asset manager said Texas is home to one in ten publicly traded U.S. companies, and that more than 300 firms have relocated their headquarters to the state since 2015.
Elon Musk-led Tesla and SpaceX, as well as tech giants Oracle and Hewlett Packard Enterprise, have moved to the state in recent years.
BlackRock said it manages nearly $380 billion in assets tied to public companies in Texas, including about $115 billion in the state's oil and gas sector, making it one of the largest investors in the region.

Tesla robotaxis draw concerns from U.S. regulators

Tesla has been approached by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) after footage shared on social media appeared to show its newly-launched driverless cars breaking traffic laws. The firm's long-awaited robotaxis were tried out on public roads for the first time in Austin, Texas, on Sunday. Videos posted online seem to show instances where the vehicles, which had a safety driver in the passenger seat, drive erratically. In a statement, the NHTSA said it was 'aware of the referenced incidents and is in contact with the manufacturer to gather additional information'. Social media footage seems to show the vehicles struggled with real world driving scenarios. One video seems to show a robotaxi stopping abruptly as it passes a parked police car. Tech news outlet TechCrunch said cars were also seen speeding and swerving into the wrong lane. The rollout is limited to 12 taxis and Tesla says they won't operate in bad weather, attempt difficult intersections or carry customers below the age of 18. Analysts had already said the small-scale launch showed how far Tesla has to go to catch up with rivals. Tesla is using a different technology to its rivals, relying on in-car cameras rather than the radar and sensors employed by the current market leaders. It is betting that its approach will be cheaper and therefore ultimately more attractive to consumers. However, questions have been asked about its safety. The NHTSA has highlighted that under the law it 'does not pre-approve new technologies or vehicle systems – rather, manufacturers certify that each vehicle meets NHTSA's rigorous safety standards, and the agency investigates incidents involving potential safety defects'. Jordan highlights entrepreneurship role at Euromed 2025 in Istanbul

AMMAN — President of the Economic and Social Council Musa Shteiwi participated in the Euro-Mediterranean Summit of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (Euromed 2025), held in Istanbul on Monday and Tuesday. The summit was organised by the European Economic and Social Committee and focused on the "New Charter for the Mediterranean," the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. In a specialised session titled "Promoting Entrepreneurship in the Euro-Mediterranean Region," Shteiwi highlighted the role of entrepreneurship in Jordan's economy, highlighting its importance as a 'key' element of the "Smart Jordan" pillar in the Economic Modernisation Vision. He said that entrepreneurship helps drive economic growth and provides 'high-quality' job opportunities for youth and women, which contributes to advancing sustainable development. Shteiwi referred to 'encouraging' national indicators, including the presence of 40 business incubators and a 34 per cent increase in early-stage entrepreneurship activity between 2023 and 2024. Women's participation in early-stage entrepreneurship also rose significantly from 11 per cent in 2023 to 20 per cent in 2024 alongside a growing share of entrepreneurs aged 18 to 34, he said. Shteiwi added that while most Jordanian entrepreneurs target the local market, 7.9 per cent of early-stage ventures generate over 25 per cent of their sales from foreign markets. Participants discussed a draft document prepared by the European Commission aimed at establishing a unified regional approach and promoting cooperation and knowledge exchange among countries on both sides of the Mediterranean. Speaking on behalf of the Union of Arab Economic and Social Councils during the opening session, Shteiwi addressed key shared challenges facing the Mediterranean region, including climate change, water scarcity, migration and unemployment. He stressed the need for a unified strategy, calling for launching institutional dialogue between Arab and European councils to develop joint agendas that support the region's shared interests. The Euromed Summit aims to reinforce regional cooperation among advisory and social institutions and formulate cohesive responses to pressing economic and social issues in the Mediterranean. © Copyright The Jordan Times. FedEx shares slide as trade turbulence hits demand, profit forecast

FedEx shares dropped nearly 6% in premarket trading on Wednesday after the logistics giant sounded caution for the full year ahead and forecast current-quarter earnings below market expectations, as it battles volatile global demand due to pressures from U.S. tariffs. "The global demand environment remains volatile," said CEO Raj Subramaniam during an earnings webcast, as the company failed to provide full-year earnings and revenue forecasts, pointing to uncertainties surrounding U.S. trade policies —especially on those related to China. The Trump administration imposed 145% tariffs on China in April, that intensified a global trade war, before reducing them to 30% in May. With FedEx having more exposure to China than rival UPS, the company's executives said they expect tariff policies to continue weighing on the U.S.-China air trade transit. The biggest hit is from the Trump administration ending duty-free status for direct-to-consumer shipments — valued at less than $800 — from China-linked bargain sellers like Temu and Shein, FedEx Chief Customer Officer Brie Carere said. "FedEx is like the economy's Fitbit. Express shows business demand, Ground tracks e-commerce, and Freight reflects industrial strength. Right now, all three are looking sluggish," said Michael Ashley Schulman, partner at Running Point Capital Advisors. Shares of German logistics company DHL fell nearly 2%, while UPS was down 0.8%. FedEx and UPS, both bellwethers for the U.S. economy and the logistics sector, have been battling for market share as industrial demand slows, while delivery profits have taken a hit as customers shifted to cheaper ground shipments from costly air services. The company's outlook overshadowed a better-than-expected profit for the fiscal fourth quarter as it cost cuts and improved export volumes that pushed operating margins higher. "U.S. manufacturing is still dealing with supply chain and recession worries, global trade isn't moving much, and while FedEx is managing costs well, demand just isn't picking up yet," Schulman added. FedEx shares trade at 11.63 times their projected 12-month forward earnings, compared to UPS's 13.40.
