Meta Partners With Oakley for Its Next Pair of Smart Glasses
Meta's next pair of smart glasses might just be the perfect summer shades. The company has confirmed its partnership with Oakley to bring a new pair of smart glasses to the market with a new Oakley Meta Instagram account.
Recent rumors have indicated that Meta's (expensive) next model will target a sportier audience. These smart sunglasses are supposedly designed for athletes first and foremost, although they'll have a bevy of preinstalled apps for you to toy around with.
The Oakley Meta glasses will have camera, gallery and map functionality, and they'll be able to view any push notifications sent to your mobile device.
Meta's official Oakley Instagram account (@oakleymeta) has a blue checkmark, and it's followed by the official accounts for Meta and Oakley, Mark Zuckerberg, Caloa Mato, head of global marketing at Oakley and Rocco Basilico, the chief wearables officer at Luxottica (the parent company of Oakley).
This isn't the first time that EssilorLuxottica has partnered with Meta on eyewear. The company also owns the Ray-Ban brand, which Meta already partnered with to create a line of smart glasses.
If the Instagram account's bio is anything to go by, the official Oakley Meta smart glasses announcement will be on June 20.

Meta's CTO says OpenAI's Sam Altman countered Meta's massive AI signing bonuses
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said Meta was trying to poach AI talent with $100M signing bonuses. Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth told CNBC that Altman didn't mention how OpenAI was countering offers. Bosworth said the market rate he's seeing for AI talent has been "unprecedented." Bosworth said in an interview with CNBC's "Closing Bell: Overtime" on Friday that Altman "neglected to mention that he's countering those offers." The OpenAI CEO recently disclosed how Meta was offering massive signing bonuses to his employees during an interview on his brother's podcast, "Uncapped with Jack Altman." The executive said "none of our best people" had taken Meta's offers, but he didn't say whether OpenAI countered the signing bonuses to retain those top employees. OpenAI and Meta did not respond to requests for comment. The Meta CTO said these large signing bonuses are a sign of the market setting a rate for top AI talent. "The market is setting a rate here for a level of talent which is really incredible and kind of unprecedented in my 20-year career as a technology executive," Bosworth said. "But that is a great credit to these individuals who, five or six years ago, put their head down and decided to spend their time on a then-unproven technology which they pioneered and have established themselves as a relatively small pool of people who can command incredible market premium for the talent they've raised." MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jacob Misiorowski took a perfect game into the seventh inning of his second career start, Christian Yelich drove in a career-high and franchise-record eight runs, and the Milwaukee Brewers scored 16 times in the final four innings to beat the Minnesota Twins 17-6 on Friday night. Misiorowski became the first pitcher to start his big league career with 11 consecutive hitless innings as a starter since 1900. He threw five no-hit innings against St. Louis on June 12, but left in the sixth with cramping in his right calf and quadriceps.
