England football legend Paul Gascoigne, 58, issues positive health update after years of battling alcohol addiction and mental health problems
England legend Paul Gascoigne has issued a positive update regarding his health.
Gascoigne, 58, has endured years of struggles with alcohol addiction and mental health problems.
However, he now appears to have taken a major step in the right direction.
Gascoigne is releasing a new book which is entitled Eight in reference to the shirt number he is best known for wearing.
The former England star, who is regarded as one of the nation's best players of all time, added that Eight also referred to the amount of emotions he has often endured.
Last week Gascoigne appeared as part of a tribute to departing Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker.
Gascoigne has now given an update on his health and says that he feels better than he has in years.
Gascoigne told The Mirror: 'I feel better now than I have in years. I hope I am at a point that I can look back over everything I've gone through with a different, more positive, perspective.
'After so many years in the spotlight, I feel like it's time people got to know the real me.'
Gascoigne's marriage to Sheryl, which ended in divorce in 1998, was marred by domestic violence claims.
His spell as manager of Kettering Town in 2005 lasted just 39 days, with Gascoigne's alcohol problems a key factor.
In 2008 Gascoigne faced a bankruptcy petition regarding a tax bill of £200,000 as he hadn't filed any tax returns for over two years.
However, in 2011 he avoided being declared bankrupt despite the fact that he still owed £32,000.
Gascoigne has frequently struggled with alcohol addiction and first attended therapy sessions in 1998.
In 2010 he was charged with drink driving and was sent to rehab, while he was given an eight-week suspended sentence.
Also that year he appeared on the scene during the stand-off between police and fugitive Raoul Moat.
In 2015 Gascoigne received a restraining order for harassing an ex-girlfriend and assaulting a photographer.
Gascoigne was capped 57 times by England between 1988 and 1998. He played for clubs including Newcastle, Tottenham, Lazio, Rangers, Middlesbrough and Everton.

KSI reveals he's been flooded with DMs from older ladies since appearing as a judge on Britain's Got Talent
KSI has revealed his role as a judge on Britain's Got Talent has earned him a legion of new older admirers. The YouTube sensation, 31, bagged the position on the popular ITV Saturday night TV show earlier this year and his inclusion has certainly been a hit with fans. But while KSI has been much-loved by younger generations for years, his decision to move into mainstream television has now also earned him the respect of an older age group. He told The Sun: 'I have always had mature women sliding into my DMs but I'd say BGT has definitely sky-rocketed the DMs, and them recognising me more.' In fact the increased adulation KSI has received from the new-found older section of his fan base even inspired the chorus of his new track, Catch Me If You Can. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. After teasing the track for weeks on his social media accounts, KSI at last released his latest single on Thursday. He raps: 'Million-dollar smile, baby that's the brand/ go and ask your mum, yeah she know who I am.' And it seems fans could be treated to more music from the Prime owner, with him revealing that's sitting on a heap of unreleased tracks. 'I am always working on music, so I have a lot of songs I feel are a better fit for a season, or how I feel,' he said. However the rapper's previous release titled Thick Of It, which came out in October 2024, was 'clowned' by supporters following its release - with Jack Whitehall even taking a jibe at the tune while presenting the BRITs. KSI himself even joked that he 'couldn't believe' the song featuring Trippie Redd was nominated for Song of the Year. 'When I got the message I laughed,' he said on the red carpet in March. 'When I released the song I was getting clowned, people online were meme-ing the song saying, "what is this, this isn't good" blah blah blah. 'But people kept listening to it, people kept streaming it and as soon as I got that BRIT nomination it was the cherry on top. 'It put a smile to my face.' Amid his various endeavours into music and television, KSI had been scheduled to step into the ring again in March to take on Dillon Danis in a Misfits boxing event. However following a huge amount of back and forth trash talk online between the pair, KSI was forced to pull out of the bout just one week before fight night at the end of March. The fighter claimed his body had 'given up' after weeks of illness. But a couple of days later he was spotted in the VIP section of an Usher concert at the 02 arena in London, prompting a furious response from his opponent. Sharing a clip of KSI, Danis wrote: 'You can't make this s*** up. '@KSI faked the sniffles. He's a scared little b****. I was told he couldn't get out of bed, and he's out on the night of the fight? WTF.' Despite the fight supposedly being postponed rather than cancelled, a new date has yet to be announced.

Eamonn Holmes puts on loved-up display with girlfriend Katie Alexander days after estranged wife Ruth Langsford 'called in the lawyers to secure their £3.6m family home'
Eamonn Holmes and his new girlfriend looked smitten as they enjoyed a day out together days after a fresh update in the presenter's divorce saga. The GB news broadcaster, 65, and marriage guidance counsellor Katie Alexander, 43, began dating in mid-2024. Despite engagement rumours swirling since December of the same year, the couple only went Instagram official last week after months of low-key holidays and dates. But it seems they're now more than comfortable making their romance public, with the mother-of-two sharing a series of loved-up snaps of her and Eamonn enjoying a day in the woods. With the presenter perched in his wheelchair, the couple posed for a few rare selfies together which Katie shared on Instagram on Friday. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loo Katie and Eamonn, both sporting sunglasses, looked every bit the happy couple in the snaps as the 43-year-old pecked her new boyfriend on the cheek Katie and Eamonn, both sporting sunglasses, looked every bit the happy couple in the snaps as the 43-year-old pecked her boyfriend on the cheek. With his partner gazing lovingly at him, Eamonn seemed as happy as ever in another picture as he smiled for thre camera. The smitten display comes just a matter of days after Eamonn's estranged wife Ruth Langsford, 65, called in the lawyers to ensure he will not receive a share of their £3.6 million marital home. The former This Morning presenters left fans stunned last May when news of their split was first reported. With their divorce in the works, Eamonn moved out of their plush six-bedroom home in Weybridge, Surrey, which they had lived in since 2014, last summer. And The Sun revealed earlier this week that Ruth has been granted a severance of joint tenancy on the property. The publication said that public documents state that if Ruth were to pass away, her share of the house would not go to GB News host Eamonn. Sarah Dwight, of the Law Society, told the outlet: 'One of the first things divorce lawyers do is to give their clients the option to sever the joint tenancy, so they can leave their share of the house to whoever they want. 'This move protects Ruth in that if she were to die, she can leave her wealth to whoever she wants, rather than Eamonn getting everything.' MailOnline has contacted representatives for Ruth and Eamonn for comment. After leaving his marital home, Eamonn has since moved into a plush penthouse in Kingston, south-west London, where he lives alone. With the presenter reportedly 'lonely' at his new abode, it was thought that Katie may move down to join Eamonn from her native Yorkshire. However a source close to Ms Alexander told The Mail on Sunday: ''There's no way she will move in with Eamonn in the near future, or for many years. 'She has her children to consider. Truth be told, they are a little unsettled at her relationship being played out in the media and she doesn't want to uproot them. 'They have met Eamonn on several occasions and get on great with him, so things will stay as they are for the time being. 'Eamonn seems so lonely since splitting with Ruth, so it's not exactly ideal for him.' The Irishman's divorce woes have been compounded with his ongoing health issues. Eamonn has been left needing a wheelchair or a walking stick to get around after undergoing surgery on his back in 2022. He sparked concern only last week when he fell off his chair live on air while presenting GB News. Co-host Ellie Costello cried 'oh my gosh' after Eamonn's tumble, before the prideful presenter could be heard saying: 'I'm fine, fine, fine, carry on, carry on, carry on.' The show then cut to an extended adverts break, before Eamonn returned to screens telling viewers: 'They're very wonky wheels on chairs we've got here, as a matter of fact we don't really like the chairs here. 'It was a shock for me because I had a fall two weeks ago in my bathroom that hospitalised me and that hit me right in the back.' 'And that hit me again right in the back. Really really sore, really sore.' Following the two scares, Eamonn shared a heart-breaking update on his health a couple of days ago. Taking to social media to post on old photo of himself broadcasting, he wrote: 'Great picture popped up from 3 years but it's made me sad - I could walk. Got to redouble my efforts.'

Awkward moment Richard Wilkins is mistaken for Hollywood star while reporting in London - and you won't believe his response
Richard Wilkins was left frustrated this week after fans interrupted a live field report he was conducting and mistook him for his famous Hollywood lookalike. The veteran Today show reporter, 70, was covering the Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning premiere in London, when some locals enthusiastically greeted him - but confused with a Baywatch star. 'Hey, it's David Hasselhoff!' the fans yelped. An annoyed Wilkins did not mince words when reprimanding them for interrupting his report. 'Hey, will you give us a break for five minutes, please?' Wilkins asked. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Richard Wilkins AM (@richardwilkins) The fans later shared the clip to social media and captioned it with: 'Best feeling in the world meeting your idol.' The clip caught the attention of Wilkins himself, who responded with a cheeky comment. 'Don't hassle the Hoff,' Wilkins commented. 'Midnight live crosses can be challenging!' Wilkins and David Hasselhoff, 72, share a striking resemblance, with both sporting tall frames, broad shoulders, and trademark coiffed brunette hair. They both share a charismatic on-screen presence and showbiz longevity into their 70s. It comes after Wilkins shared a very surprising photo with notorious fan of heights Tom Cruise. The Channel Nine entertainment reporter shared an image of himself posing alongside the Hollywood superstar in London as they discussed his latest film Mission Impossible – The Final Reckoning. What caught the eye of many is the size disparity between the two men, with Wilkins appearing to tower over the 62-year-old Cruise. The perspective of the photo, with Wilkins more in the foreground, does exaggerate the height difference between the two, although the Today star is quite a bit taller. Richard cuts an imposing figure at 1.88m (or 6'1") while Tom stands at a reported 1.7m (5'6"). 'Tom looks like he's come out of a Kinder Surprise egg,' one follower joked. Alluding to the strange perspective of the image, another offered: 'That photo doesn't look right - I know Tom Cruise is short but the photo looks distorted somehow?'
