Muscat: Daily trading volume at the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) rose by 19.2 percent during the week, as investors bought shares of companies affiliated with the Oman Investment Authority (OIA), following improved financial results.
Local investment funds and institutions were also active in buying shares.
The daily trading average last week reached OMR13.1 million, compared to OMR11 million the week before. The week witnessed three trading days, compared to four trading days the week before, coinciding with the Eid Al Adha holiday.
Trading data released by the Muscat Stock Exchange (MSX) showed an increase in trading on OQ Basic Industries shares, which witnessed trades worth OMR7,694,000, representing 19.5 percent of the total trading value.
OQ Gas Networks witnessed trades worth OMR6,107,000, while OQ Exploration and Production shares traded at OMR6,073,000. Asyad Shipping Company's shares witnessed trades worth OMR4,694,000. The four companies accounted for 62.4 percent of the total trading value witnessed by the MSX during the week, which amounted to OMR39.3 million.
Local investment institutions were net buyers, accounting for 69.3 percent of the total trading value, while sales accounted for 65.1 percent of the total trading value. At the indices level, the Muscat Stock Exchange's main index fell 35 points last week, closing at 4,543 points, breaking a six-week upward trend amid profit-taking following gains in the shares of several leading companies over the past weeks.
The industrial sector index recorded losses of 94 points, the financial sector index declined by 44 points, the services sector index lost 12 points, and the Sharia index recorded a decline of approximately 3 points, closing at 441 points.
The market capitalisation of the MSX rose to OMR28.88 billion at the end of trading on Thursday, recording weekly gains of OMR82 million. This rise was supported by the share of OQ Exploration and Production, the largest company listed on the MSX in terms of market capitaliation at OMR2.496 billion.
During the week, its market capitalisation gained OMR136 million after its share rose by 17 baisas during the week, closing at 312 baisas. During the week, the company invited its shareholders to attend the extraordinary general assembly meeting scheduled for June 24 to discuss amending the company's articles of association by adding a new article related to the company's purchase of its own shares, which supported the share and pushed it upward.
In corporate news, Al Anwar Investments has invited its shareholders to attend the annual general assembly meeting scheduled for June 30th. The meeting will review the company's performance reports for the fiscal year ending March 31st. The meeting will also consider distributing cash dividends to shareholders at 4 baisas per share and bonus shares at a rate of 4 percent, equivalent to 4 shares for every 100 shares. The company's shares closed at the end of last week's trading at 85 baisas, up by 2 baisas during the week, and witnessed the execution of 206 transactions worth OMR1,185,000.
Fincorp, one of the oldest publicly listed companies in the financial brokerage sector on the MSX, said its board of directors has decided to approach the Financial Services Authority (FSA) for approval to cancel all licenses issued by the authority and related activities, and to change the company's activity to investment. The company has invited its shareholders to attend the extraordinary general assembly meeting scheduled for June 29 to approve this proposal before approaching the FSA.
During the week, the Omani Education and Training Investment Company announced its preliminary financial results for the third quarter of its current fiscal year, which ends on August 31. The company reported net profits of OMR7.2 million through May, compared to OMR6.5 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Saud Said Al Ma'awali, Deputy Chairman of the Municipal Council and Head of the Development Committee for South Al Batinah Governorate, told Oman News Agency (ONA) that the committee is devising plans and programmes to enhance the governorate's economy, tourism, and infrastructure. Additionally, it supports small and medium enterprises (SMEs), generates job opportunities for youth, and develops skills and capabilities across various sectors. He added that these projects fall under South Al Batinah's developmental and recreational initiatives, aligning with Oman's decentralisation policies and the strengthening of local governance as part of an ambitious phase of structural transformations in economic growth frameworks under the Tenth Five-Year Plan and Oman Vision 2040. These efforts aim to improve public facilities and services while stimulating economic activities. Al Ma'awali noted that the Barka Waterfront Development Project, located in Al Muraisi and stretching over two kilometer, seeks to transform the area into a touristic and integrated recreational hub, serving as a natural retreat and attraction for all age groups. The project includes diverse sports, leisure, and entertainment facilities, along with tourism support services (trip planning, accommodation and transport bookings, tour guidance, and travel logistics). It also provides investment spaces that will generate employment opportunities for locals. The project's completion rate has reached 55%, with an investment of OMR1.9 million. As for Al Musanna Waterfront Development Project, situated in Al Awaid and spanning two kilometers, Al Ma'awali stated that its construction cost stands at OMR1.7 million, with 35% of work completed. The project will feature restaurants, retail outlets, children's play areas, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, and beachside recreational activities. The Wadi Al Ma'awil Commercial Market, covering 16,000 square metres, includes 27 commercial shops with an investment of OMR319,000. The project's completion rate has exceeded 95% and is expected to enhance trade and tourism while supporting commercial activity in Wadi Al Ma'awil, he added. Al Ma'awali explained that Al Awabi Commercial Market project reflects the government's ongoing efforts to elevate services, achieve sustainable development, and strengthen the local economy by stimulating commercial and social activity in the wilayat. The project, spanning 1,200 square metres, includes 16 commercial shops at an investment cost of OMR200,000, with 70% of work completed. As for Nakhal Public Park Development project, Al Ma'awali indicated that 70% of construction work has been completed, with a development cost of OMR452,000. The project includes upgrades to enhance visitor experience, transforming the park into an integrated recreational and investment destination. Its strategic location presents promising investment opportunities, featuring three dedicated spaces for SMEs and local family businesses, thereby boosting economic prospects in Nakhal and neighboring areas. These initiatives underscore the governorate's commitment to fostering sustainable development, improving quality of life, and creating a vibrant economic environment in line with national development goals.

The new bylaw comprises several regulatory provisions, including general provisions on retail tariffs for telecommunications services, special provisions for tenders offered to commercial beneficiaries and government institutions, and additional regulatory provisions on monitoring pricing practices that may exceed certain levels. The new bylaw seeks to keep pace with regional and international updates in the telecommunications sector. Muscat: The Ministry of Labour has announced the implementation mechanism for the decision requiring each commercial registration that has completed one year of establishment to employ at least one Omani citizen. The new policy, which supports national workforce development and labour market regulation, was first outlined in a Ministry statement issued on 5 May 2025. The mechanism applies to all commercial establishments, with specific provisions based on the nature and size of the entity. A. Foreign Investment Establishments 1. Foreign-owned businesses with a commercial registration older than one year must submit an employment plan to hire at least one Omani citizen within three months. 2. Recruitment may be completed either directly or through a clear employment plan that results in actual hiring. 3. A total ban on issuing new work permits will apply to any non-compliant establishment, regardless of employee count. 4. A grace period of no more than three months will be given from the date of official notification. 5. This mechanism has been developed in coordination with the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion. B. Establishments Employing More Than 10 Workers 1. These businesses must submit an employment plan to recruit at least one Omani within three months. 2. Recruitment may occur either directly or through a viable employment plan. 3. Notifications will be sent through the Ministry's electronic system. 4. If the business fails to comply, the system will automatically impose a ban on issuing new work permits. C. Establishments Employing Fewer Than 10 Workers 1. These entities must submit a plan to employ one Omani citizen within six months. 2. All such businesses will undergo a case review within six months to assess their contribution to local value addition. 3. Compliance can be achieved through direct hiring, a viable employment plan, or, if value addition is demonstrated, a temporary exemption. 4. Non-compliance will trigger an automatic ban on new license issuance via the Ministry's system. D. Entrepreneurs and Full-Time Business Owners 1. Establishments owned by entrepreneurs or full-time business owners will be given a one-year grace period to meet the Omanisation requirement. 2. A case review will be conducted within six months to evaluate the entity's local economic contribution. 3. Entrepreneurs who do not currently hold a Riyada Card may apply through the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority to obtain one and benefit from associated exemptions and facilities.
