SPRINGDALE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — After a full month of generosity and giving, Jersey Mike's cut a $156,000 check to its cause of choice.
Jersey Mike's dubbed March its 'Month of Giving' with March 26 being a 'Day of Giving.' On that day, the company donates 100% of sales to Arkansas Children's statewide.
Funds from the month-long campaign will benefit Arkansas Children's historic expansion project, providing expanded care in Northwest Arkansas.
This comes amid the hospital's extensive process of adding new programs along with building and modernizing facilities at Arkansas Children's Hospital (ACH) in Little Rock and Arkansas Children's Northwest (ACNW) in Springdale.
'Thirteen stores across the state supported Arkansas Children's. We broke our record from last year, which I believe was $143,000. It's so awesome to see a $13,000 increase, and when we do it again, we will beat this record,' Nick Morgan, Jersey Mike's co-owner, said. 'We didn't do it. The community did it. They came out. They showed out.'
His business partner Zac Morgan said the entire month of March is very rewarding for them.
'Jersey Mike's motto is 'give to give,' and we push it through our stores, and we push it out through the community as much as possible. And it means the world to us to be able to give back to the children,' Zac Morgan said.
The nearly $318 million system-wide expansion is now in year three of an eight-year process between its Little Rock and Springdale campuses.
'This is the most historic expansion project in the history of the organization. So, both Arkansas Children's in Little Rock and Arkansas Children's Northwest here will see the benefits from these funds,' Megan Flores with Arkansas Children's said. 'We're building all different kinds of spaces. Both campuses will have a whole new building structure and expanding patients' rooms, expanding different operating space and hopefully lessening wait times for our patients and their families. And just making an overall better experience.'
The plan includes recruiting 150 new providers and more than 500 new team members.
The expansion will include 265,000 square feet of new construction and 170,000 square feet of renovated construction, to create more inviting and accessible sites.
More specifically, that's a 72-thousand square feet addition to Northwest Arkansas' campus with a large focus on more in-patient beds in an effort to keep children closer to home.
It also includes an enhanced surgical space with additional operating rooms.
The expansion will double the hospital's hematology and oncology space, creating more specialty clinic space for things like sports medicine.
'We literally could not exist without community support. They are our voice behind the scenes, just lifting us up in the community and letting everyone know all the programs and services we offer,' Flores said.

Central IL businesses step up, donate to Operation Honor Guard

CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Several businesses from around Central Illinois are donating to Operation Honor Guard during its Day of Giving. Operation Honor Guard is a nonprofit organization that raises money for veteran service organizations that provide military funerals for fallen veterans. Because many members of these organizations have to pay for their own uniforms, gear and travel expenses, Operation Honor Guard steps in to ensure they are outfitted and equipped. WCIA's Brandon Merano was present to receive each check from Central Illinois' donating businesses. We thank them for their generosity and support of Operation Honor Guard. Hayley Siefert Real Estate of Danville, led by Heather Baker, donated $5,000. 'I think for us, it was a chance for us to give back to those who have given so much to us,' Baker said. 'Veterans lay their lives on the line for us and so many others and continue to serve and commit to those who have fallen, so if we are able to give back in that way to support them and their continued endeavors, that was the main goal and focus for us.' Sav-Mor Pharmacy of Tuscola, led by Pam Carnes, has been a longtime sponsor of Operation Honor Guard and is donating again in 2025. 'It's an honor to be a part of something that would give back to our veterans for what they did for us,' Carnes said. 'It seems like it gets larger every year.' This year, Sav-More donated $5,000. Heartland Bank has been donating to Operation Honor Guard for the last five years, and its Vice President Chad Sieben has a personal connection to the Honor Guard that makes donating near and dear to him personally and for his business. Heather Harshbarger of Adams Memorial in Champaign said her business wanted to donate to support all of its veterans who have served and who are currently serving. In addition, her grandfather served in the U.S. Army. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Pensacola kindergarten teacher named semifinalist in America's Favorite Teacher contest 1,256 alumni, students, and many others donated over $194,000, surpassing the original campaign goal of $175,000, has learned. The yearly 24-hour online fundraiser happened during UWF's Founders Week on April 17, and this year's Day of Giving marked more than one million dollars raised during the event over the last seven years, according to the release. This year, the event's fundraising goals were $175,000 and an individual gift goal of 1,200, linking back to the University's broader Here for Good campaign, which seeks to exceed the goal of $90 million. These goals were met with the help of matching gifts from President Emeritus Judy Bense, alumna Pam Schwartz, the Florida Engineering Society, and Levin Papantonio Law Firm. Challenging gifts were also given by President Emeritus Morris Marx, Alana Gahm, Brett Berg, Jeff Walker, and Jim and Melba Morrow. According to the release, participants were asked to make gifts to one of the 13 featured fund areas, and athletics raised the most money with $39,000. The Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering received the most donations out of UWF's four colleges, raising more than $26,000. Travel Solutions Launches University-Focused Hotel Booking Directories Across the U.S.

Travel Solutions, a Dallas-based travel tech firm, has introduced a portfolio of specialized hotel booking directories for major U.S. universities. These new platforms simplify campus travel planning for students, families, and academic visitors by offering curated lodging options near university grounds. United States, April 14, 2025 -- Travel Solutions, a travel technology company headquartered in Dallas, has announced the official launch of a nationwide network of university-specific hotel booking directories. These platforms are designed to streamline the travel experience for students, parents, faculty, and visitors attending university events, tours, graduations, or academic conferences. Focused on proximity, convenience, and quality, the directories offer a curated selection of accommodations located within walking distance or a short commute to leading U.S. university campuses. By addressing a consistent travel challenge—finding reliable lodging near college grounds—Travel Solutions aims to become a trusted resource for educational travel. 'This is about solving a real problem that families and students face multiple times during their academic journey,' said Nick Morgan, Head of Strategy at Travel Solutions. 'Whether it's the first college tour or a graduation weekend, travelers need hotel options they can count on, close to campus.' Tailored Directories for Major U.S. Universities The newly launched directories provide focused booking experiences not typically available on mainstream hotel platforms. Each site features: · Real-time pricing and availability · Verified guest reviews and high-resolution property images · Map-based listings showing distance from campus · Filter options for price, amenities, and walkability · Mobile-first design for quick and secure booking Among the first platforms launched are: · – Lodging options in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, ideal for those looking for hotels near New York University. · – Hotels close to UT Austin, serving families and Longhorn event attendees. · – Listings for hotels near the University of Washington in Seattle, perfect for prospective students and academic visitors. · – Curated options for travelers seeking hotels near the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. · – A centralized resource for visitors to Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Each platform is designed to remove the guesswork often involved in finding campus-adjacent accommodations—especially for out-of-state and international guests. 'You can see the university, see the hotel, check the reviews, and book with confidence,' Nick added. 'That's the simplicity we set out to deliver.' Meeting the Needs of a Growing Travel Niche Travel Solutions' move comes amid a significant rebound in campus-based travel post-pandemic. College towns across the U.S. are experiencing renewed visitor volume as families, faculty, and professionals return for academic engagements. The demand for accessible, nearby lodging is surging. The company's university directories align with a broader shift in use-case-driven travel tools, emphasizing functionality and relevance over generalized listings. By targeting a niche yet high-volume sector—academic travel—Travel Solutions aims to lead a growing category of specialized travel platforms. Roadmap for Expansion Looking ahead, Travel Solutions plans to scale the model across more than 100 universities, including Stanford University, the University of Chicago, UCLA, Boston University, and others. Each platform will deliver a hyper-localized booking experience, optimized for travelers who prioritize proximity to campus. 'Visiting a university is a milestone moment in many people's lives,' said Nick. 'We want to ensure that moment is supported with seamless travel planning—starting with where they stay.'
