Sri Lanka Vs Bangladesh Live Score, 1st Test Day 1: Follow Scorecard And Match Action From Galle
A new chapter in the fierce rivalry between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is set to unfold as the two nations lock horns in the first Test of their two-match series, commencing at the iconic Galle International Stadium. This encounter marks the beginning of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship cycle for both teams, adding significant weight and context to the contest. The hosts, Sri Lanka, will enter the series with a blend of seasoned veterans and fresh faces, signaling a period of transition for the island nation. The match holds special significance as it will be the farewell Test for the stalwart all-rounder Angelo Mathews, who will be bidding adieu to the longest format of the game at the very venue where his illustrious career began. Under the leadership of Dhananjaya de Silva, Sri Lanka will be looking to leverage their home advantage and start the new WTC cycle on a positive note. Their recent Test form in 2025 has been challenging, with two losses in as many matches, and they will be eager to reverse that trend. Across the Palk Strait, Bangladesh arrives with a sense of cautious optimism. While their overall head-to-head record in Test cricket against Sri Lanka is heavily skewed in favour of the Lankans (20 wins to 1 in 26 matches), the Tigers have shown immense improvement and fighting spirit in recent years. Led by the capable Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh will be aiming to build on their solitary Test victory against Sri Lanka and prove their mettle in challenging away conditions. Their form in 2025 has been a mixed bag, with one win and one loss in the two Tests they have played. Sri Lanka has named a new-look 18-member squad for the first Test, indicating a focus on building a team for the future. The spotlight will undoubtedly be on Angelo Mathews as he dons the whites for one last time. His experience and calming presence in the middle order will be invaluable. The batting will revolve around captain Dhananjaya de Silva, the consistent Pathum Nissanka, and the experienced Dinesh Chandimal. The bowling attack is expected to be spin-heavy, a traditional strength for Sri Lanka in Galle. The likes of Prabath Jayasuriya and the recalled Akila Dananjaya could play crucial roles in exploiting the spin-friendly conditions. For Bangladesh, the onus will be on their senior players to lead from the front. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto will be expected to anchor the batting, with support from the experienced duo of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque. The all-round abilities of Mehidy Hasan Miraz will be vital for the team's balance, contributing with both bat and ball. In the bowling department, the spin trio of Taijul Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Nayeem Hasan will be tasked with the significant challenge of outbowling their Sri Lankan counterparts on a potentially turning track. The Galle International Stadium is renowned for its picturesque setting and its spin-friendly pitches. The surface typically offers significant assistance to the spinners, and this Test is expected to be no different. Batters will need to apply themselves and play with patience to score runs, while the spinners from both sides will be licking their lips at the prospect of a responsive wicket. The weather in Galle in June is generally warm and humid, with the possibility of intermittent showers that could play a role in the proceedings.

Gautam Gambhir's 'Aggressive' Nature Singled Out By Ex-Teammate: 'Tactically Good, But Man Management...'
Former wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik believes India head coach Gautam Gambhir is tactically "very good," but he feels man management remains an area he would examine. While Gambhir extended India's dominance in limited-overs cricket, red-ball cricket remains a format in which he has yet to establish supremacy. In his first Test assignment, India convincingly won against Bangladesh but lost the plot against New Zealand and Australia. India was pummelled by the Kiwis on home turf to a historic 3-0 whitewash. This was followed by a collective failure to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia for the first time in a decade, which was topped up by agonisingly crashing out of the World Test Championship race despite being favourites. As India faces another task, Karthik believes that even though Gambhir defends his players, he can't be as aggressive as a coach as he was during his captaincy days. "Tactically, Gauti (Gautam Gambhir) is a very good coach. Man management is the area that I am sure he would be looking at. But one thing about him is that he is looking out for his players which is massive. What I feel at times is that the way he is aggressive as a captain, you can't be as a coach. You are managing different individuals. Once you let them out in the park, you trust them to do the job. That is the challenge," Karthik said on the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast. Throughout India's turbulent phase, the entire team and management were surrounded by controversies, suggesting rifts between players and the coaching staff. With a new sunrise marking the beginning of the latest chapter in Indian cricket, Gambhir would be keen on embracing the opportunity with both hands. Gambhir and his troops will kick off their campaign in the latest WTC cycle with five gruelling Tests against England, commencing June 20 at Headingley. The intensity of the challenge will be further heightened considering the absence of batting mainstays Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who pulled the curtain down on their respective careers last month. Shubman Gill was deemed Rohit's successor and was crowned with the title of Test captaincy. Rishabh Pant was named his deputy, and young blood was infused into the squad to fill the void. Gambhir left the Indian camp due to family emergency. India's Test squad for England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.

ICC drops a ‘banger' as ‘Lord Bavuma' steals the show in ‘lit' WTC clip; Dale Steyn's reaction says it all
The International Cricket Council (ICC) turned up the style on Monday by dropping a slick social media clip of South Africa's celebratory visit to Lord's, where they lifted their maiden World Test Championship (WTC) mace after defeating Australia last week. The video set the internet ablaze, leaving fans stunned by the post's flair and creativity. The WTC final concluded on June 14 in London, with South Africa sealing a dominant five-wicket win. Aiden Markram struck a scintillating century in the final innings to finish the match inside four days. A day after the historic victory, the South African team returned to Lord's — this time for a post-match media shoot. Suited up and in high spirits, the players were seen singing the catchy 'Temba Bavuma' chant on their way to the ground. Spinner Keshav Maharaj admitted the win still hadn't sunk in. At the iconic venue, the team posed for a photoshoot. That's when ICC spiced things up on their social media — posting a cinematic video from the shoot unlike anything seen before. Titled simply 'Attitude,' the video showed the players in sunglasses, exuding swagger as the camera zoomed out dramatically. Fans were mesmerised, and the best reaction came from none other than Dale Steyn, who commented 'GOLD' on the post. WTC-winning captain Bavuma doesn't want South Africa's celebration to end in London as he aims to carry this momentum to T20 World Cup next year and eventually the 50-over World Cup at home a year after. "I think it will be massive. I mean, that tournament, we are definitely setting our sights on doing special things in that tournament," Bavuma said as quoted by ICC after the Proteas ended 27-year-wait for their second ICC trophy after the Knockout title in 1998. "There is still a way to go until then. Shukri (Conrad) obviously comes in now as the white-ball coach, so we will see what plans that he has, who his personnel will be. But yeah, hopefully this is the start of those trophies for the team," he added.
