Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon Freddie Aguilar has died while confined at the Philippine Heart Center. He was 72.
Lawyer George Briones of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), where Aguilar formerly served as the national executive vice president, confirmed the artiste's demise as per multiple reports.
The singer-composer had appealed for prayers through his Facebook page last May 20, although he did not immediately disclose his condition.
His partner Jovie Albao also earlier spoke about the well-wishes they have been receiving and how she is 'always finding courage in the face of fear.'
'A lot has happened this week. There were many emotional moments but I must not be weak. I need to be strong to take care of him,' she said on her Facebook page on May 21.
'Our priority now is Freddie's condition. I'm sorry I cannot share detailed information this matter is only for family and close friends,' she continued.. 'But I can assure you that he is in good hands and he's getting all the medications he needs.'
Albao appealed at the time for prayers, saying that she only shared to the public what Aguilar wanted to share about his condition.
In a succeeding post, Albao showed a photo taken at the Philippine Heart Center, adding the caption, 'Stay strong, things will get better. It may be stormy now, but it can't rain forever.'
Aguilar's fellow celebrity, actress Vivian Velez, was among those who lament his passing.
'Our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. His music will forever live on in our hearts,' she said.
Aguilar was best known for his 1970s hit song Anak which is about a parent's love for a wayward child. The track was released in over 50 countries, translated in 29 languages, and re-recorded in over 100 versions.

(G)I-DLE & BamBam concert scrapped at organiser's request, not the government
PUTRAJAYA: The Communications Ministry has denied claims that the (G)I-DLE & BamBam Live in Malaysia concert, scheduled for June 14, was cancelled due to rejection by the Foreign Film and Foreign Artist Performance Application Committee (JK-Puspal). In a statement, the ministry said that based on JK-Puspal records, preliminary approval for the concert was granted on April 28. "JK-Puspal wishes to stress that claims the cancellation was due to a lack of approval from the committee are completely untrue. "The decision to cancel the concert was made at the organiser's request, taking into account their justifications and the interests of all parties involved. "In this regard, organisers must make thorough preparations, including obtaining early approvals from various relevant authorities, before holding a concert featuring prominent international artistes, as stipulated in the Puspal Guidelines (GPP)," the statement read. The concert organiser, Live Universe Sdn Bhd, announced the cancellation in a Facebook post on Monday, citing regulatory complications as the reason.

#SHOWBIZ: Scha Elinnea: It's okay if fans are more interested in my personal life
KUALA LUMPUR: Young actress Scha Elinnea acknowledges that the line between her private life and public persona is often blurred, an inevitable aspect of celebrity. The 26-year-old artiste recently said that she doesn't particularly mind when fans show more interest in her personal life than her professional work. "I don't mind if fans want to know my personal life story. That's part of being in this industry," said Scha, whose real name is Nur Azleen Natasha Mohamed Mubeen. "Of course, when people say bad things about me, sometimes it can hurt too." However, she generally doesn't take such comments to heart, especially when they come from individuals she doesn't know personally. "Instead, I take it as a challenge to improve and move ahead in this line of work. People can make whatever assumptions they want. At the end of the day, I know where I stand," explained Scha, adding that her family, particularly her mother, are her staunchest supporters. She shared these thoughts with reporters at a recent fan meeting with the cast of 'Anak-Anak Mafia', here. Scha is part of the ensemble cast for the drama series, which is set to stream on Tonton from June 12. Directed by Suhaimi Zulkfeli, the series also features Mierul Aiman, Fitri Farok, Fariz Isqandar, and Zhen Ning.
