At Least 49 Dead in South Africa Floods
Israa Farhan At least 49 people have died following severe flooding in South Africa's Eastern Cape province, as rescue teams continue to search for those still missing. Authorities warn that the death toll is expected to rise. The floods swept through the region on Tuesday after a powerful storm unleashed torrential rain, fierce winds, and snowfall. Officials have described the disaster as one of the worst climate-related events the province has ever faced. Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane confirmed the fatalities during a press briefing, noting that the relentless downpours destroyed homes and triggered widespread displacement. Among the victims were six secondary school students who drowned when floodwaters overwhelmed a bus near a river. Four other students remain unaccounted for. Since the start of the week, large parts of South Africa have experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by snow and high winds, leading to major road closures and widespread power outages. The combination of severe weather conditions has intensified the crisis for affected communities. Hundreds of people in the Eastern Cape have been forced to evacuate their homes and are now sheltering in public facilities and community halls. Emergency services continue to work around the clock to reach stranded residents and provide aid to displaced families. The South African Weather Service had issued warnings late last week about a dangerous low-pressure system, urging residents to take precautions and follow safety guidelines. President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on Wednesday evening, extending condolences to the families of those killed or missing. He assured the public that the government will provide support to all those impacted by the floods and assist with recovery efforts. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

UK Set for Hottest Day of 2025
Israa Farhan The United Kingdom is bracing for its hottest day of the year so far, as temperatures are forecast to soar to 30°C on Friday, surpassing the previous 2025 high of 29.3°C recorded at Kew Gardens in west London on 1 May. Despite the soaring heat, the UK is also expected to face severe weather conditions over the next three days, including heavy thunderstorms and strong winds. According to the Met Office, some regions may experience up to two inches (50mm) of rainfall in just a few hours, accompanied by gusts reaching 80 km/h between Thursday and Saturday. Friday's anticipated temperature spike could make parts of the UK warmer than popular summer destinations such as Ibiza, Mykonos and Los Angeles, marking a sharp contrast between intense heat and volatile weather. The unusual weather pattern has prompted meteorologists to urge caution, particularly in areas at risk of flash flooding and travel disruption due to the heavy rainfall. The combination of heat and storms highlights the unpredictable nature of the UK's summer climate in 2025. Weather officials continue to monitor the evolving situation and recommend that residents stay informed through regular updates, especially in regions likely to be affected by the strongest storms. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
