ATHENS: Oscar-winning actor
George Clooney
says he is certain the
Parthenon Marbles
will return to
Greece
, adding in an interview that their repatriation is a "family" matter for him and his wife.
"They're going to come back.
I know they are," Clooney told to the Greek daily newspaper Ta Nea in an interview published Saturday.
Athens has for decades demanded the return of the sculptures from the
British Museum
, saying they were looted in 1802 by Lord Elgin, British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire.
Clooney's wife
Amal Alamuddin Clooney
, a human rights lawyer, has since 2011 advised several Greek governments to take the case to international courts.
"That's all my wife and I both have worked" towards, Clooney said. "We'll keep pushing until it happens. There's no question about it."
The current government of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has escalated its efforts for the repatriation of the Marbles, making official and unofficial meetings with the new UK government of Keith Starmer last autumn.

Hyphen-hype
A former associate editor with the Times of India, Jug Suraiya writes two regular columns for the print edition, Jugular Vein, which appears every Friday, and Second Opinion, which appears on Wednesdays. His blog takes a contrarian view of topical and timeless issues, political, social, economic and speculative. LESS ... MORE The weaponisation of a commonly used mark of punctuation, and how best to counter it The minister of Punctuation, Propaganda, and Fake News was addressing his aides and assorted flunkies. There is good news and there is bad news, said the minister. First, the good news. The good news is that our Operation Hyphen worked even better than we anticipated. The terror attack we masterminded triggered an inevitable response from The Adversary who promptly launched multiple strikes against the terrorist training camps we've established. So far so good, said the minister, while his aides and assorted flunkies nodded in obsequious agreement. With the escalation of hostilities which we so cunningly had provoked, international attention, not to mention alarm, got focused on the face-off between us and the adversary, as we had planned, said the minister. This was the good news, he continued. Our Operation Hyphen was crowned with success because in the eyes of the international community we and the adversary got re-hyphenated. Or, to be more precise, clarified the minister, we and the adversary got re-re-hyphenated, after having been repeatedly de-de-hyphenated. The hyphen, explained the minister, which is not to be confused with the N dash or the M dash, or the minus sign which it resembles, is one heck of a juju of a punctuation mark. Its name derives from the Greek 'Huphen', which in late Latin became 'hyphen' and means 'together'. The first recorded use of the hyphen to join two words, and by implication, give them equal value or status was by Dionysus Thrax, the great Greek grammarian (170-90BC), pronounced the minister. Thanks to the hyphen we got equated with The Adversary, even though we are a bankrupt military dictatorship and The Adversary is the world's most populous democracy and the fifth-largest economy to boot, he gloated. That's good news, he said. Unfortunately, he continued, the bad news is that The Adversary has made it abundantly clear to all concerned that to counter our hyphen, if necessary it is ready to come up with an even bigger juju of a punctuation mark: the Full Stop… Facebook Twitter Linkedin Email Disclaimer Views expressed above are the author's own.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen shows off new ring following marriage to actor Hailee Steinfeld
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Josh Allen's broad grin was familiar. The wedding band on the quarterback's ring finger was brand new. As much as Allen hoped to talk about the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday, the newlywed couldn't escape questions about his headline-grabbing marriage to actor/singer Hailee Steinfeld in Southern California on May 31. 'We're back to football,' he said, before pointing to his ring finger. 'Got some hardware now. So, good to go.' Allen was otherwise short on details as part of his longstanding bid to maintain a semblance of privacy, even though pictures from the outdoor wedding were posted on social media mere minutes after the couple exchanged 'I do's.' There were pictures of Steinfeld wearing a strapless white gown walking down the aisle, the couple sharing a kiss, and Allen, in a black tuxedo, posing with friends and Bills teammates. It wasn't until being asked about what the past four months have meant to him — in which Allen was named NFL MVP in February, signed one of the league's richest contracts in March and got married in May — that Allen finally opened up. He called Steinfeld his best friend, and said she makes everything easier. 'That was the most important decision I'll make in my life and I made the right one,' Allen said. Western New York and the NFL have a new power couple, both of whom happen to be from California and began dating two years ago. There's the 29-year-old Allen, who in seven seasons has set most of the Bills scoring and passing records. His star has continued to rise while he has transformed the Bills into an AFC power, also building his profile through various national commercials. And then there's Steinfeld, 28, who first gained fame by earning an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress for her role as Mattie Ross in the Coen brothers' 2010 remake of 'True Grit.' She has since enjoyed numerous starring roles, most recently in the movie 'Sinners,' while also branching out into music. Amid the buzz, Allen brought the focus back to football as Buffalo opened a three-day mandatory set of practices. The quarterback skipped the team's voluntary sessions last week. Aside from taking his familiar spot leading the offense on the field, Allen spent time after practice being filmed to measure his footwork and mechanics. It's something Allen does several times a year to ensure he's not picking up bad habits. 'Making sure we're staying on top of those things and if there's something that we need to tweak for the better, we are going to try to do it,' he said. The same could be said of Allen's unflinching approach to dealing with the spotlight. Coach Sean McDermott credits the quarterback for staying true to himself. 'What I've seen is this truly genuine, authentic person who, yes, is in the limelight, yes, is one of the top players in our league, and maybe the top player in the NFL,' McDermott said. 'But he is so authentic, so down-to-earth, so relatable. I think that's really the connection and the cool piece about Josh is because he is who he is.' And yes, McDermott was among those in attendance at the wedding. 'I was very grateful to be there, No. 1,' McDermott said. 'Two, it was what you would expect of a wedding. Just great to see, and two really special families coming together.' AP NFL:

City's Green Space Gets A Welcome Addition
New Delhi: Lieutenant governor VK Saxena and chief minister Rekha Gupta jointly inaugurated the redeveloped Sadbhavana Park, a grand addition to north Delhi's green urban spaces, on Tuesday. Parallel to the Walled City on Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Sadbhavana Park is spread across 11 acres of redeveloped green space. Intended to emphasise geometrical forms and designed as a formal garden to balance the gardens in the Samadhi complex on the east side of Ring Road, Sadbhavana Park will provide open recreational avenues to citizens, especially those living in Daryaganj and nearby old Delhi localities. Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal, chief secretary Dharmendra, and senior officers from Delhi Development Authority were also present at the inauguration. The key features of the park are the chariot fountains, baradari, sculpture fountains, formal lawns and the shaded eating plaza. According to officials, the park has white marble pathways and sculptures contrasting with the linear green areas divided into lawns and low-maintenance plantation zones, which provide a sense of grandeur. A sculpture of five white horses driven by a sarathi, set in a circular water pond with fountains, adorns the park as a unique feature in Delhi's landscape. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo Additionally, four magnificent sculptures of Yakshinis, crafted by Sudarshan Sahoo, a Padma Vibhushan-winning sculptor, have been installed within the linear lawns. These artworks enhance the park's beauty and offer a serene space for people to relax. A clock tower, currently under construction, will further enhance the park's aesthetic appeal. A food van, proposed to be opened near the parking, will attract visitors and enhance their leisure experience. At the inauguration on Tuesday, LG and CM planted moulsari saplings at the centre of the baradari. Other officers planted the Pride of India saplings along the designed pathways. The plantation of these trees and saplings will contribute not only to the beauty of the area but also contribute to air quality and ecological balance for the benefit of the community. Delhi Development Authority said in a statement that white balloons were released into the sky as a symbol of Sadbhavana (goodwill). "Under the consistent guidance of LG, the Sadbhavana Park was conceptualised as part of a scheme to decongest the Kartavya Path lawns. It is a part of a larger landscape redevelopment project comprising three parks along Mahatma Gandhi Road. The project aims to become a vibrant urban hub where visitors can immerse themselves in nature while enjoying the amenities of a well-maintained park," the statement said. Kranti Udyan, the first park in the series, was inaugurated in Jan. Sadbhavana Park, the second, followed five months later. The scheme integrates a green belt spread over a 35-acre area, running around 1.7km in length along Ring Road.
