Suzan Craig Dunand and Marco Dunand
When Suzan Craig Dunand and Marco Dunand signed the Giving Pledge last year, the couple announced their intention to leverage the majority of their wealth to address biodiversity loss and climate change.
'If the planet becomes uninhabitable for humans, then there's no other more important issue,' says Marco, the co-founder and CEO of energy trading firm Mercuria Energy Group.
In 2022, the Dunands co-founded the nonprofit Villars Institute, which works with entrepreneurs, educators, researchers, and students to help drive the transition to a net-zero, nature-positive economy and come up with innovative solutions to counter climate change. 'Our focus on intergenerational education is vital because young people have been handed so many concerns, but not necessarily the tools to help address them,' says Suzan, founder and CEO of eco lab Tahi. 'The Institute is also very much about interdisciplinary collaboration, so taking people who normally don't work together and getting them to collaborate.'
The couple, who split their time between New Zealand and Switzerland, are also spearheading Silvania, an investment platform to help restore native forests and improve biodiversity worldwide. So far, the initiative has conserved 29 million hectares in more than 20 countries, but its goal for 2025 is saving Brazilian rainforests. In its first-ever major campaign, Silvania will match every metric ton purchased by a Brazilian state forest protection program with $1 of funding, up to $100 million.

SkyWest, Lithuania deals lift Embraer at Paris Airshow
By Gabriel Araujo SAO PAULO/PARIS (Reuters) -Investors and analysts on Wednesday welcomed fresh deals announced by Brazilian planemaker Embraer at the Paris Airshow, including a major regional jet order from SkyWest and a defense agreement with Lithuania. The announcements helped Embraer's shares climb as much as 5%, making it the top performer on Brazil's benchmark stock index Bovespa, and underscored positive sales momentum for the company. Embraer got off to a turbulent start on Monday at Le Bourget as Polish carrier LOT, a long-time E-Jet operator, chose Airbus' A220 regional jet over the Brazilian firm's E2 family after a hard-fought contest for a landmark 40-airplane deal. But it recouped ground on Wednesday as U.S. airline SkyWest placed a firm order for 60 E175 jets valued at $3.6 billion at list price, with options for 50 more. The deal was described as a "mega order" by Embraer's commercial aviation head, Arjan Meijer, who added in a statement that the E175 was the "cornerstone of regional aviation in North America." Santander analysts praised it as a "strong positive development" for Embraer due to the meaningful boost to its backlog and indications of continued demand for the first-generation models in the key region. The Brazilian firm also revealed that South Africa-based Airlink plans to lease 10 second-generation E195-E2 jets from Azorra, a move which Itau BBA believes could lead to further orders from the U.S. lessor in the future. NATO BOOST On the defense front, Lithuania said it had tapped Embraer's KC-390 airlifter for its fleet, paving the way for the acquisition of three aircraft. Financial details were not disclosed. Analysts say the move may fuel more orders from European and NATO countries, with nations such as Portugal, Hungary and the Netherlands having also selected the aircraft, which competes with Lockheed Martin's C-130. "We see potential for at least 50 new orders for the C-390 from NATO countries with the rise in defense investments in Europe," Bradesco BBI said in a note to clients. Embraer, the world's third-largest planemaker after Airbus and Boeing, has been riding tailwinds on the back of strong demand for its jets. Its shares have surged 30% so far this year, building on gains of more than 150% in 2024. Juventus weigh up move for Southampton's Mateus Fernandes
Juventus are considering a loan move for Southampton midfielder Mateus Fernandes this summer (h/t La Gazzetta dello Sport). The Bianconeri are scouring the market for reinforcements as they want to back manager Igor Tudor with a strong squad heading into the new season. Advertisement Signing a midfielder is one of the objectives, with Douglas Luiz facing an uncertain future in Turin. The Brazilian has failed to make his mark since his €50 million from Aston Villa, leading to the reports that he could be on the move this summer. A return to the Premier League has been touted, with Villa and Nottingham Forest among the suitors for Luiz. The Bianconeri could be open to selling Luiz and reinvest in a top midfielder, with Fernandes emerging as a potential target. Despite the Saints' relegation last season, Fernandes has been a bright spot, showing incredible consistency. The 20-year-old registered three goals and six assists in 49 games across all competitions. Advertisement He displayed great versatility to play anywhere in the midfield and in the forward line. His eye-catching stats place him among the finest young midfielders in Europe. The Bianconeri are looking to establish contact with his agent Jorge Mendes, who also represents Francesco Conceicao, currently on loan at Juve from Porto. Fernandes' stock could rise this summer as he is currently playing a pivotal role for Portugal at U-21 Euros. The Saints have placed a price tag worth €35 million. Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are keen on his services. Juve are currently prioritising a high-profile centre-forward, identifying Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres as top targets. Advertisement But their enormous valuation makes them a far-fetched target unless the Old Lady maximise their sales. Dusan Vlahovic's future at Allianz Stadium is up in the air as the renewal talks have hit a standstill. Juve are ready to sell the Serbian for the right offer, but there has hardly been any concrete interest from the suitors.
