RTÉ News16-05-2025

The annual Cavan Arts Festival returns for its eighth edition this weekend, with organisers promising a "diverse and daring" line-up of acts.
The now popular artist-led and volunteer-run celebration promises to have something for everyone with an eclectic mix of music, theatre, dance, visual arts, comedy, circus, and workshops in Cavan Town.
Headline acts performing at Cavan's Townhall Arts Centre include The Blindboy Podcast, comedian Alison Spittle, acclaimed Belgian circus performers OkiDok, and 'The Sound of Time Flying,' a Dermot Healy inspired "all-star musical extravaganza" headed up by acclaimed Cavan guitarist and songwriter, Josh McClorey.
Tomorrow and Sunday, the events will revolve around the festival's iconic Big Top in Con Smith Park, where young and old can enjoy an array of mostly free events.
Other highlights over the weekend will include a special 'Pedal Parade' to coincide with Bike Week 2025 for budding bikers, a green-inspired programme exploring the intersection between art and the environment, and interactive workshops ranging from samba to circus.

Two lads 'hid in toilet for 27 hours' to sneak in to Champions League final

Two Belgian men said that they hid in a toilet for over a day to sneak into the Champions League final for free. PSG beat Inter Milan in a 5-0 blowout to finally win the prestigious tournament, with 19-year-old Désiré Doué putting on a star performance with two goals and one assist. While tickets to the final were like gold dust, Belgians Neal Remmerie and Senne Haverbeke managed to sneak in via unorthodox means — sneaking into Munich's Allianz Arena the day before the final and hiding in a toilet for 27 hours, emerging when the match kicked off. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Neal & Senne (@neal_senne) Sharing the video on TikTok, the lads explained that they used a handmade 'out of order' sign to deter the stadium's workers from checking for them, but added that the wait for the match was rougher than expected. 'We had a backpack with snacks and we played around on our phones to kill time,' Neal told Belgian broadcaster VRT News. 'The lights were on all the time, and the sitting position was uncomfortable, so sleeping was almost impossible. That made it physically and mentally difficult.' The lads then heard fans using the toilets, which they saw as their cue to head to their 'seats' for the match — saying that they went through a separate ticket check before heading to the seats. Pic: Neal & Senne/Instagram 'We looked carefully at which security guard was paying the least attention,' Neal explained. 'While on the phone and with food in our hands, we just walked on, and suddenly we were inside.' Thankfully for the pair, they got in undetected and chose their seats wisely, as they ended up in the stands with PSG supporters. 'PSG won 5-0 and we were also in the supporters' section of the winning team. It was the most beautiful football match we've ever seen.' PSG won the final with a massive 5-0 win over Inter Milan. Pic:Achraf Hakimi and Désiré Doué opened up the scoring for PSG on Saturday, with the Parisians going 2-0 up heading into half time. Anyone who was looking for a competitive second half from Internazionale were left sorely disappointed, with Doué, Khvicha Kvaratshkelia and Senny Mayulu putting three more over the line for an emphatic 5-0 win.

TikTokers spent 27 hours in stadium toilet to watch Champions League final for free

A pair of Belgian TikTokers say they spent 27 hours in an Allianz Arena toilet last weekend before watching Paris St Germain beat Inter Milan in the Champions League final for free. Neal Remmerie and Senne Haverbeke told VRT News they managed to get into the Munich stadium the day before the match and hid in a toilet cubicle. After sticking a homemade "Out of Order" sign on the door, the pair waited in silence for more than a day as stadium staff used the facility. "We had a backpack with snacks and we played around on our phones to kill time," Remmerie told the Belgian public broadcaster. "The lights were on all the time and the sitting position was uncomfortable, so sleeping was almost impossible. That made it physically and mentally difficult." Once they heard fans starting to use the toilets on matchday, the pair left their bolthole and made their way past ticket inspectors to join the 86,600 crowd in the stands. "We looked carefully at which security guard was paying the least attention. While on the phone and with food in our hands, we just walked on, and suddenly we were inside," Remmerie added. "PSG won 5-0 and we were also in the supporters' section of the winning team. It was the most beautiful football match we have ever seen." The Allianz Arena and UEFA did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment. Those fans who made their way into the match more conventionally had to pay anywhere from 90 to 950 euros ($100-$1,100) for their tickets.
