Press Release – Volunteering New Zealand Give volunteers a Big Shout Out this June National Volunteer Week, which runs from 15–21 June, is the biggest celebration of volunteering in New Zealand. Volunteering New Zealand | Tūao Aotearoa leads this national event. This year's theme is Whiria te tangata – Weaving the people together. 'National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to thank the millions of volunteers who make a difference to our communities every day. We know of 50 events being held by volunteer centres and community organisations celebrating over 3000 volunteers,' says Michelle Kitney, Chief Executive of Volunteering New Zealand. Over 53% of adult New Zealanders volunteer, either for organisations or directly helping others. Formal volunteering is worth $6.4 billion to the economy, and when you add in direct volunteering as well it's worth over double that at $14.4 billion. More than the economic value, volunteering is vital to the health and wellbeing of our communities. Volunteers are everywhere—supporting aged care, disability services, community programmes, the arts, sports, emergency response, and caring for our environment. Their work touches almost every part of our lives. Volunteering also gives back to those who volunteer. It helps people feel connected, supported, and valued. Volunteering is a powerful movement and is a key contributor to community. 'This National Volunteer Week we celebrate the diversity of volunteers and volunteering, mahi aroha and social action in Aotearoa. 'Join us this National Volunteer Week as we celebrate our collective impact,' Michelle says.

Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy and their epic record for Jaguar TCS Racing

Evans secured his win in Sao Paulo, while Cassidy triumphed in Shanghai. These two victories — one each by the New Zealanders — helped Jaguar TCS Racing stand out with this remarkable achievement. Record-breakers Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy Mitch Evans' win in Sao Paulo was particularly special. Not because it was his first win of the season, but because he started 22nd on the grid and still managed to take the chequered flag. It was a spectacular come-from-behind effort from the 30-year-old. Evans, who has been with Jaguar TCS Racing since their debut in Formula E, completed the race in a total time of 45:14.758, with a best lap time of 1:13.295, earning the maximum 25 points. Cassidy, on the other hand, delivered a dominant performance from start to finish in Shanghai. He grabbed pole position and maintained his lead throughout the race, not allowing any rival to pass or challenge his pace. From the front of the grid to the finish line, Cassidy's control was absolute. He won the race with a total time of 45:54.828 and posted a best lap time of 1:24.092, adding another 25 points to Jaguar's tally. After securing his first win of the season, Cassidy celebrated in style. Standing alongside his teammates, team principal, and technical staff at the Shanghai International Circuit, he broke into a spirited rendition of Taylor Swift's Love Story. FIA Formula E's official Instagram handle posted a heartwarming video of Cassidy's unique celebration, captioning it: "Our favourite Love Story is @jaguarracing and this podium. Celebrating Cassidy's P1 performance in their traditional team style. @ #ShanghaiEPrix #FormulaE #Motorsport #Racing" Cassidy sang these lyrics with infectious energy, amplifying the already electric post-race atmosphere: "Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone. I'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run. You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess. It's a love story, baby, just say, 'Yes'."
