Land for Jobs case: CBI commences arguments on charges in land for job case against Lalu Prasad, others
New Delhi [India], June 2 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday began its arguments on charges in the land for job scam case, in which former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his family members, former public servants, and candidates are accused.
Yadav is alleged to have granted railway jobs in exchange for land parcels from candidates or their relatives, either as gifts or at significantly reduced prices.
Special judge Vishal Gogne heard the submissions by senior advocate DP Singh alongwith advocate Manu Mishra, who appeared for the CBI.
CBI's counsel gave a brief overview of the case and submitted that there is a sanction to prosecute Lalu Prasad Yadav and public servants in this case.
It was further submitted that there is sufficient material evidence to frame charges against the accused persons for the offence they are chargesheeted.
Delhi High Court has already rejected the plea of Lalu Prasad Yadav seeking a stay on trial court proceedings.
The Delhi High Court on May 31 dismissed a plea by RJD chief and former Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
Justice Ravinder Dudeja had ruled that Yadav remains free to present his arguments before the trial court at the charge consideration stage, stating there were no compelling reasons to halt proceedings.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal had sought to quash the FIR, arguing that the CBI failed to obtain mandatory prior approval before proceeding with its inquiry. He contended that while approval was secured for others, it was not obtained in his case.
The CBI, opposing the petition on maintainability grounds, had argued that a sanction under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act was not required. It further stated that while a sanction under Section 19 was necessary, it had already been obtained.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have investigated former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his family, and several others in connection with the land-for-jobs case. (ANI)

Gujarat Congress demands CBI investigation into MNREGA scam
Gandhinagar: The state unit of the Congress party has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the MNREGA scam in Gujarat. They alleged that minister Bachubhai Khabad, whose two sons were arrested for their involvement in the scam, is obstructing the investigation. Speaking to reporters in Gandhinagar, Amit Chavda, leader of the Congress Legislature Party, said that bills worth over Rs 3 crore were paid without any work being done under MNREGA on 12 land survey numbers belonging to Khabad's family. "We demand a CBI investigation into the scam. The minister has been obstructing the investigation in the case. Why has he not been removed from the cabinet?" Chavda questioned. Chavda said that despite the Congress submitting complaints with evidence of widespread MNREGA-related corruption, the govt has so far investigated cases only in Devgadh Baria and Dhanpur talukas. "A CBI probe will bring to the fore similar corruption cases in different districts," Chavda said.

India's and Pakistan's 'dueling' delegations land in Washington
Teams of politicians and diplomats were sent from New Delhi and Islamabad to present their views on the recent conflict between the nations Delegations of both Indian and Pakistani diplomats and politicians have arrived in Washington to meet with US officials and present their side of the recent conflict between the two countries. India's delegation led by Shashi Tharoor, an MP for the opposition Indian National Congress party, landed in Washington on Wednesday to present its case about the terrorism allegedly emanating from Pakistan. "Tomorrow almost they will be in Washington, while we are in Washington on the same date. So there's going to be perhaps an increase in interest because there are two dueling delegations in the same city," Tharoor said in an interview with the news agency ANI. New Delhi has sent seven teams to over 30 countries to counter what it perceives as poor press coverage about the confrontation with Islamabad. External Affairs ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India wants the world to "hold Pakistan accountable" for what he claimed was 40 years of cross-border terrorism against India. An MP from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) party told the Press Trust of India that the delegations sent across the world will convey India's message of "zero tolerance against terrorism" and the "propaganda they (Pakistan) have been doing since 1947." The Pakistani delegation, which is led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, was tasked by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to "expose Indian propaganda," state-run Pakistan Radio reported in May. It traveled to Washington on Wednesday after concluding a two-day visit to the UN headquarters in New York, where it accused India of "unilateral aggression" and dismissed India's claims about Islamabad's links to the terrorists behind the Kashmir attack. The delegation also proposed that the Pakistani and Indian intelligence agencies could work together to "decrease" terrorism in South Asia. New Delhi, however, maintained it will only engage in talks with Islamabad after it takes concrete action against terrorism. "If Pakistan is as innocent as they claim to be, why do they give a safe haven to wanted terrorists?... Why are they able to live peacefully, to conduct training radicalize further people, to equip arms and get people to practice their arms and Kalashnikovs...," Tharoor told the PTI agency before heading to Washington. After a brief but fierce military standoff, a ceasefire was announced on May 10. US President Donald Trump took credit for playing a role in the ceasefire, a claim that New Delhi rejected.

Washington, DC [US], June 5 (ANI): Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, who is leading the all-party parliamentary delegation to the US, met with Bipartisan co-chairs Ro Khanna and Rich McCormick, as well as vice co-chairs Andy Barr and Marc Veasey, on Wednesday. Tharoor said that US Congressmen had very strong support and understanding for India's position on the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the events that followed. Speaking to reporters, Tharoor said that McCormick was very upbeat about the future of India-US ties, the economy and global strategic issues. After meeting Khanna, McCormick, Barr and Veasey, Tharoor said, 'Mr McCormick is not only understanding of what we had to tell him, but he was very upbeat about the future of India-US relations across the board, the economy, global strategic issues, and so this particular problem we started off discussing was part of a much larger picture, which we are very excited to hear the kind of vision that the India Caucus chairs have for the future of our relationship.' The delegation will also hold discussions with academicians from leading think tanks and various media outlets. The delegation is scheduled to speak at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) in Washington, D.C., with the event being streamed live on the CFR website. Additionally, the delegation will interact with members of the Indian diaspora during their visit, further strengthening community ties. The delegation aims to brief key stakeholders in the US on Operation Sindoor, India's diplomatic initiative launched to counter terrorism and disinformation following recent terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. In a post on X, Tharoor described his journey to Washington as a 'horrendous, three-stage overnight journey' from Brasilia via Sao Paulo and Panama, during which he managed only one and a half hours of sleep. Upon arrival, he was pleased to be greeted by two Indian-American police officers, Harmanpreet Singh and Hundal. Tharoor recorded an interview with CBS News at the Indian Embassy, followed by a briefing with Ambassador Vinay Kwatra and his team. The delegation reached the US after concluding their visit to Belgium. The diplomatic effort is part of India's broader global outreach following Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 as a military response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists, which claimed 26 lives and injured several others. Subsequently, the Indian Armed Forces carried out strikes targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of over 100 terrorists affiliated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
