Reward increased for last 2 fugitives in mass New Orleans break out, police say they're 'closing in'
Authorities are offering a reward of up to $50,000 each for the two inmates who remain on the run after escaping a New Orleans jail earlier this month.
Crimestoppers of Greater New Orleans and the FBI New Orleans announced at a Thursday news conference that it was upping each of their rewards to $20,000 per inmate. The ATF is offering a $10,000 reward per inmate.
Eight of the 10 inmates who escaped the Orleans Justice Center on May 16 have been captured. Antoine Massey and Derick Groves remain on the run.

"Today marks day 13 in our search for escapees Antoine Massey and Derrick Groves, and we want you to know that we will find them," said Jonathan Tapp, Special Agent in Charge at FBI New Orleans.
Louisiana State Police Superintendent Colonel Robert P. Hodges said authorities are closing in on Massey and Groves.
"We should have them in custody soon," he said, telling reporters that the two inmates are getting help and moving around the city, "the walls are closing in."
Officials said tips from the public led to the capture of three of the escapees. One reward has already been paid out, and the other two will be paid soon.
More than a dozen people have been arrested and charged with allegedly helping some of the escapees.
Five people were charged with helping Lenton Vanburen, 26, run and hide, authorities said. Vanburen was arrested Monday by Baton Rouge police after they received a tip from a "concerned citizen," according to a statement. He was apprehended while sitting on a bench near a department store.
Last week, jail maintenance worker Sterling Williams was arrested and charged after authorities accused him of cutting off the water in a cell so inmates could pull the toilet from the wall and flee. According to an affidavit for an arrest warrant, Williams told investigators that Massey had threatened to shank him if he did not help.
Michael Kennedy, a lawyer for Williams, denied that his client was trying to assist the inmates in escaping. Kennedy said Williams turned the water off because the toilet in an unused handicapped cell was clogged.
A photo released by the Orleans Parish Justice Center showed a hole in the wall behind the toilet with phrases such as "To Easy Lol" and "We Innocent" written above it.

Disturbances were abound at the federal criminal trial of Sean 'Diddy Combs' on Tuesday, as a woman viewing the rap mogul's sex trafficking and racketeering trial from the gallery shouted out in the middle of open court about the defendant, disrupting ongoing testimony in the fifth week of proceedings, and the trial's judge discovered that the name of 'Mia,' a pseudonymous witness, was leaked online. The heckler on Tuesday is a woman named Jacqueline 'Candor' Williams, who has been a regular inside and outside of the courthouse at 500 Pearl Street in Lower Manhattan. She has been a fixture there, speaking to a smartphone in the front of the courthouse where members of the press await the departure of Combs' mother and sons each day; she's also been present in the court's overflow room where press and members of the public watch the untelevised trial on medium-sized closed circuit TV screens. She then yelled, 'You're laughing at a Black man's legacy,' before adding, 'Pull your gun out, ninja, I dare you.' Combs remained calm as this all occurred, but as Williams and another witness inside the courtroom told reporter Emilie Hagan, the jailed mogul pivoted in his chair with his mouth open when he heard Williams mention a security guard's gun. Judge Arun Subramanian quickly ordered the woman removed from the courtroom. Williams said that she has been told not to return to the trial room but that she is still allowed to view proceedings from the overflow room. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Williams via Instagram but did not immediately receive a reply. Her outburst caused a minor delay, and it occurred prior to the start of testimony from Eddy Garcia, a Los Angeles hotel security employee, when the 2016 incident occurred where Combs beat and dragged ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura in L.A., all of which was caught on security footage. Garcia was a 33-year-old security guard at the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles in 2016. He testified about speaking with a nervous-sounding Combs and his chief of staff, Kristina Khorram, about the footage of the rap mogul viciously beating then-girlfriend Ventura in a hallway there nearly a decade ago. He told the court he ultimately accepted $100,000 for what he believed was the only footage of the horrific incident. Garcia testified that he split the money with a manager and another staff member, another guard; however, he had filmed the footage to show to his wife, and video of Combs attacking Ventura eventually leaked to CNN. Garcia's testimony followed that of 'Mia,' a former personal assistant of Combs who used a pseudonym in court as part of her testimony, which included discussion of several alleged incidents where she says she was raped or sexually assaulted by Combs. On Tuesday, the identity of 'Mia' was leaked online by a YouTube streamer and posted on X (formerly Twitter) by another outlet. Prosecutor Maurene Comey raised the state's concerns about the leaked name after the YouTube streamer shared Mia's identity; the streamer has now been barred from the federal court and will no longer be able to cover court proceedings. Comey told the judge that a second outlet had posted the real name of 'Mia' on X and requested that the judge ensure the post was removed and the source who posted it online was barred from court. Authorities raid home where New Orleans jail escapee appeared to shoot video pleading for help: source
Authorities have raided the residence where one of the two remaining escapees from a New Orleans jail apparently shot an Instagram video proclaiming his innocence, according to a source close to the investigation. Antoine Massey, 33, was not located during the raid, the source told Fox News. Authorities found clothes belonging to Massey at the residence, according to the Associated Press, who cited an anonymous official. Police were reportedly tipped off by Massey's relatives, who recognized the home. In a now-deleted video from an Instagram account, Massey appeared to tell viewers that he didn't break out of jail on May 16, but instead that he was let out. Williams was arrested for allegedly aiding in the 10-man escape, but told police he was coerced into helping under threat of being "shanked." He said maintenance workers were only allowed near inmates if they were guarded by a deputy. Nineteen days ago, 10 men escaped from the Orleans Parish Justice Facility through a hole behind a toilet in their cell. They hopped the jail's barbed-wire fence to freedom. Search Continues For Four-time Killer, Serial Escapee After New Orleans Jailbreak Over the past two-and-half weeks, LSP has led the manhunt to capture the escapees, with help from local and federal partners. So far, eight of the men have been brought back into custody. Derrick Groves, 28, a four-time killer, is the only other inmate besides Massey who has not been captured. He was being held in the jail while awaiting sentencing for an October 2024 guilty verdict in a double homicide during Mardi Gras in 2018. After he was convicted, he pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter. Massey was in jail pending a trial on charges of domestic abuse involving strangulation, theft of a motor vehicle and a parole violation. This is the fourth time that Massey has escaped from police custody. Massey's sister, 31-year-old Daishanae Massey, is one of 14 people who have been arrested for allegedly aiding the escapees either before or after they broke out of the jail.
