WhatsApp blocked on US House devices amid Meta's political heat
Meta
's popular online messaging application WhatsApp has been banned from all US House of Representatives-issued devices, according to a memo sent to all House staff on Monday.
The notice said the "Office of Cybersecurity has deemed WhatsApp a high risk to users due to the lack of transparency in how it protects user data, absence of stored data encryption, and potential security risks involved with its use."
The memo further advised staff to switch to other messaging platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Apple's iMessage and FaceTime, Amazon's Wickr, or Signal.

The company disagreed with the move, "We disagree with this decision in the strongest possible terms,' a company spokesperson said, according to Reuters. 'WhatsApp provides one of the highest levels of security available with end-to-end encryption and we believe it is more secure than alternatives that don't provide this level of protection.'
This ban comes at a time when Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg is
facing an internal backlash
over his growing closeness to President Donald Trump and his allies. According to a recent Financial Times report, more than 40 Meta employees have expressed unease with what they see as a sharp political shift by Zuckerberg. His appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast and efforts to build relationships with Trump's inner circle have led some employees to refer to him as 'MAGA Mark'.

US carrier strike group scheduled for deployment amid tensions in West Asia
The US was already planning to deploy the USS Gerald R. Ford when American warplanes bombed three Iranian sites early Sunday to support Israel's goals AP Norfolk (US) The United States' most advanced aircraft carrier leaves Virginia for a regularly scheduled deployment on Tuesday that could position it near Israel after the US inserted itself in Israel's war to destroy Iran's nuclear programme. The US was already planning to deploy the USS Gerald R. Ford when American warplanes bombed three Iranian sites early Sunday to support Israel's goals. Iran retaliated with a limited missile attack on a US military base in Qatar on Monday. But later on Monday, President Donald Trump said on social media that Israel and Iran have agreed to a complete and total ceasefire to be phased in over 24 hours. Trump said on Truth Social that the ceasefire would bring an Official END to the war. The Ford will sail for the European theater of command, which includes waters off Israel's Mediterranean coast. The presence of the aircraft carrier and its accompanying warships gives Trump the option of a third carrier group in the West Asia if needed. The US has been shifting military aircraft and warships into and around the region to protect Israel from Iranian attacks. Nearly 4,500 sailors will depart Tuesday morning from the nation's largest Navy base in Norfolk, which sits near the southern edge of Chesapeake Bay. The carrier strike group includes guided-missile destroyers and several squadrons of fighter jets. The Ford is the first in the new Ford class of aircraft carriers, which use an electromagnetic system for launching planes instead of steam catapults to increase flying missions. The ships are also designed to carry a wider variety of planes and operate with several hundred fewer sailors. The Ford was previously sent to the Eastern Mediterranean to be within striking distance of Israel after Hamas' October 7 attacks in 2023. The carrier stayed in the Eastern Mediterranean while its accompanying warships sailed into the Red Sea, where they repeatedly intercepted ballistic missiles fired at Israel and attack drones fired at the ships from Houthi-controlled Yemen. From November 2023 until January 2025, the Iranian-backed Houthis waged persistent missile and drone attacks against commercial and military ships in the region in what the group's leadership described as an effort to end Israel's war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The US-led campaign against the rebels included Navy fighter jets and turned into the most intense running sea battle the Navy has faced since World War II. US Navy sailors saw incoming Houthi-launched missiles seconds before they were destroyed by their ship's defensive systems. Pentagon officials talked last year about how to care for the sailors when they returned home, including counselling and treatment for possible post-traumatic stress. The Houthi rebels recently said they would resume attacks on US vessels in the Red Sea if the Trump administration joined Israel's military campaign against Iran. The Houthis paused such attacks in May under a deal with the US. Who is Jonathan Brown? University professor ‘hopes' Iran strikes American military base
An elite university professor is 'hoping' that Iran hits back at an American military base after the bombing that took place over the weekend. On Saturday night, President Donald Trump said that the US had carried out successful airstrikes on three of Iran's nuclear sites. After the bombing, a professor at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., made headlines for saying he hopes Iran carries out a symbolic strike in return.(AFP) After the bombing, a professor at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., made headlines for saying he 'hopes' Iran carries out a 'symbolic strike' in return. Jonathan AC Brown, who teaches Islamic Civilization, posted the comment on X, as per The Spun. 'I'm not an expert, but I assume Iran could still get a bomb easily. I hope Iran does some symbolic strike on a base, then everyone stops. I'm surprised this is what these FDD/Hasbara people have been auto-erotically asphyxiating themselves for all these years,' Brown wrote. 'Ironically, the main takeaways (in my non-expert opinion, and I'm happy to be corrected) from all this have nothing to do with a US attack: 1) Iran can take a licking; 2) if Israel attacks Iranian cities, it gets fucked up pretty bad. I mean I've been shocked at the damage Iranian missiles caused; 3) despite his best efforts, Reza Pahlavi HVAC repair services still only third best in Nova,' the professor added. Also Read: US officials sound alert amid Iran conflict, warn citizens of possible terrorist attacks Brown has faced a lot of backlash for his controversial remarks. He has since deleted the post and clarified in a separate post, 'I deleted my previous tweet because a lot of people were interpreting it as a call for violence. That's not what I intended. I have two immediate family members in the US military who've served abroad and wouldn't want any harm to befall American soldiers… or anyone!'

'If You Lie, The Crow Will...': Fadnavis Dismisses Rahul Gandhi's Voter List Manipulation Charge
Last Updated: Fadnavis pointed out that voter turnout increased by over 8% between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in more than 25 constituencies, and Congress won the majority of seats Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday dismissed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations of voter list manipulation in the state, where the BJP-led alliance scored a massive victory in assembly polls last year. Fadnavis pointed out that voter turnout increased by over 8% between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in more than 25 constituencies, and Congress won the majority of seats. He also cited examples of seats of West Nagpur, North Nagpur, Wadgaon Sheri in Pune district, Malad West and Mumbra, where Congress and its allies emerged victorious. — Devendra Fadnavis (@Dev_Fadnavis) June 24, 2025 'Vote Theft in 2024 Maharashtra Polls': Rahul Gandhi Flagging alleged irregularities in the Maharashtra assembly polls, Rahul Gandhi has claimed that there weren't isolated glitches but 'vote theft" and demanded the immediate release of machine-readable digital voter rolls as well as CCTV footage. The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha shared on X a media report which claimed that in just six months between the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the Maharashtra assembly polls, Nagpur South West — the seat held by BJP leader and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis — added 29,219 new voters. 'Media uncovered thousands of voters with no verified address. And the EC? Silent — or complicit. These aren't isolated glitches. This is vote theft. The cover-up is the confession," he said. 'That's why we demand the immediate release of machine-readable digital voter rolls and CCTV footage," Gandhi added. In a post on X, the Chief Electoral Office in Maharashtra said as informed by the Election Commission of India already, electoral rolls are shared with all recognised political parties. 'During 2nd Special Summary Revision-2024, which was taken up before the General Elections to Maharashtra Assembly-2024, the copies of draft and final electoral rolls of all 288 ACs were provided to representatives of all recognised political parties including INC (Dates of handing over the rolls to INC can be seen in the attachment)," the office said. 'Between draft and final publication of rolls, 19,27,508 claims & objections were received for consideration. As per law, appeal can be filed against wrongful additions or deletions in the Electoral Rolls. Only 89 Appeals were received," it said. Gandhi's remarks also came on a day it emerged that the Election Commission has formally written to him on his allegations of rigging in the 2024 Maharashtra polls, saying all elections are held by the poll authority strictly as per laws passed by Parliament and rules, and the entire exercise involves thousands of personnel, including booth-level agents appointed by political parties. In a letter emailed to him on June 12 in response to his article written in a leading daily, the EC has said the entire election process is conducted in a decentralised manner at the assembly constituency level, which involved more than 1,00,186 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), 288 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 139 General Observers, 41 Police Observers, 71 Expenditure Observers and 288 Returning Officers (ROs) appointed by the Commission. 'We presume that any issue regarding conduct of elections would have already been raised through election petitions filed in the competent court of law (high court) by the INC candidates," it told the LoP in Lok Sabha. 'However, if you still have any issues, you are welcome to write to us and the Commission is also willing to meet you in person at a mutually convenient date and time to discuss all issues," the poll authority said.
