Three drown in Rawal Dam
Tragedy struck on Eid as three young men lost their lives after jumping into Rawal Dam, defying a longstanding ban on swimming in the reservoir. The incident has renewed concerns over public compliance and enforcement of safety regulations, particularly during holiday periods.
According to a spokesperson for the Islamabad district administration, swimming in Rawal Dam is strictly prohibited under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The restriction, in place to prevent such accidents, had been repeatedly publicised in the days leading up to Eid through announcements and awareness campaigns.
Despite these warnings and previous arrests for violations, the three individuals entered the dam to swim. Rescue teams were dispatched after reports of people drowning surfaced. One of the victims was recovered deceased, while the remaining two were pulled from the water in critical condition and later succumbed to their injuries.
An inquiry has been launched to investigate the circumstances of the incident and determine whether any negligence contributed to the tragedy. Authorities have pledged to hold those responsible accountable once the investigation is complete.
In a public statement, the district administration urged residents to refrain from swimming in Rawal Dam and to adhere strictly to the imposed restrictions. It emphasized that public cooperation is vital to preventing such fatal incidents in the future.
Rawal Dam, which supplies water to both Islamabad and Rawalpindi, is also a popular recreational site. However, officials warn that the reservoir's depth, unpredictable currents, and lack of safety infrastructure make it extremely hazardous for swimming.

Newlyweds commit suicide on railway track
A newlywed couple committed suicide by jumping in front of a train after not receiving money for their honeymoon. Police handed over the bodies to the families after completing legal procedures. Police said Sajid, a 34-year-old power loom worker and resident of 202 Rab Bhaiwala Adeel Town in the jurisdiction of Millat Town Police Station, had married Razia about two and a half months ago. The couple had planned to go to Naran for their honeymoon after Eid. Sajid asked his elder brothers, Fahad and Zahid, for money, but they were unable to arrange any funds. Early Tuesday morning, Sajid left home with his 30-year-old wife, Razia Bibi, and went to the Bhaiwala railway crossing near Chairman Stop. He called his brother Zahid and told him, "I am going to commit suicide with my wife. Come and collect our bodies." After the phone call, Sajid and his wife lay down on the railway tracks. At that moment, the Badr Express train heading from Lahore to Karachi arrived and both husband and wife committed suicide by coming under the train. They died on the spot as their heads were severed from their bodies. Upon seeing the bodies on the railway track, Sajid's elder brother Zahid reached the site and, with the help of passersby, collected their remains. Passersby informed the police. Millat Town police arrived at the scene and, after completing legal formalities, handed the bodies over to the family. Police said the deceased worked at a power loom and had married Razia Bibi two and a half months ago. The couple took their own lives after becoming disheartened when Sajid's brothers could not provide the money they had requested for the honeymoon. Neighbours said that just 15 days after the marriage, the couple was forced to live separately by their families.

Malir Jail escapees hit 225, not 216
A recount of prisoners at Malir Jail has revealed that 225 prisoners, not 216 as initially reported, escaped on June 3, it emerged on Tuesday. The new jail administration conducted a thorough review and found that nine more prisoners, not included in the original report, had escaped the prison. The Superintendent of Malir Jail, Shahabuddin Siddiqi, wrote to the SP of Malir Investigation Department, notifying him of the revised escape count. Siddiqi stated in the letter that he took charge of the jail on June 4 and initiated a complete audit during the Eid holidays, which led to the identification of the 10 additional missing prisoners. As of now, 146 prisoners have been recaptured, while 79 are still on the run. One prisoner was listed twice in the escapees' list. It has been confirmed that one of the escapees, Raza Pervez Masi, committed suicide in the Madina Colony area of Maripur, while another died after being shot following his escape. Earlier, a jailbreak occurred at Malir Jail on June 3 early morning when inmates broke through the prison wall and attempted to flee, prompting a swift and heavy response from law enforcement agencies. The area surrounding the prison has been cordoned off as part of an intensified manhunt. According to initial reports, gunfire erupted in the vicinity of the jail following the escape attempt. Police forces, aided by other law enforcement units, quickly mobilised and launched a large-scale search operation to apprehend the fugitives. Police have urged citizens to avoid the area and report any suspicious activity immediately. A formal inquiry into the security breach is expected once the situation is brought under control.

Guard abets Eid break bank heist
Armed suspects, aided by an on-duty security guard, looted gold ornaments worth billions of rupees from a microfinance bank in North Nazimabad during the Eid holidays. The robbers cut open 22 out of 30 lockers using gas cutters, escaping with the gold, CCTV DVR, and other security equipment. According to police officials, the heist occurred between the night of June 7 and the early hours of June 9 at a bank located in Block D, North Nazimabad. The suspects also took the DVR of the bank's CCTV cameras, the security guard's pistol and repeater shotgun, and a mobile phone before fleeing the scene. Upon being informed, officers including SP Gulberg Division, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) North Nazimabad, and SHO reached the scene. The Crime Scene Unit and Special Investigation Unit (SIU) were also summoned for collecting evidence. Police took Amanullah, the night-shift security guard posted at the bank, into custody. During the preliminary investigation, Amanullah confessed to unlocking the bank's gate to let 10 to 12 armed men enter. The suspects reportedly arrived in a white car and a blue rickshaw, carrying welding equipment used to cut through the lockers. SSP Central Zeeshan Shafiq Siddiqui said that the suspects had brought a complete set of welding tools and iron rods. He claimed that the arrests will be made soon as the detained security guard is cooperating in identifying his accomplices. The police also revealed that prior advisories had been issued to banks, including the affected microfinance bank, regarding holiday security protocols. A case of robbery has been registered based on a complaint from bank manager Amir Iqbal. According to the FIR, the bank operates a gold-backed loan service and stores customer collateral in lockers on the ground floor. During the Eid holidays, security personnel from a security guard company were deployed in shifts - two guards from 8am to 8pm and Amanullah from 8pm to 8am. The complaint details that on the night of June six, five individuals entered the bank via the ATM booth entrance after Amanullah opened the door. Although Amanullah later claimed he was tied up with his own trouser drawstring, investigators believe this may have been staged. The robbers then used gas cutters to break open 22 lockers and remove the gold inside. They attempted to cut into two safes containing additional gold and cash but failed. While the cash remained untouched, the robbers escaped with a significant quantity of gold jewellery. The suspects also tried to erase evidence by stealing the CCTV DVR system and the guard's weapons. Police continue their investigation, with surveillance and intelligence teams working to trace the gang's movements and recover the stolen property.
