Steelers unfazed by Watt's absence

Yahooa day ago

PITTSBURGH (BLACK & GOLD NATION) — No T.J. Watt is giving no worries to Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and the rest of the team during mandatory minicamp as Watt continues his holdout in hopes a new contract.'We've expressed desire to get the business done and he has as well so we'll continue to work,' Tomlin said. 'We've been here before.'
Rodgers in camp and committed to Steelers
Tomlin, Watt and the Steelers were in a similar position back in 2021. The only difference this time is that he currently isn't training at the team's facility.'Certainly we'd like him to be here, but certainly not surprised by where we are,' Tomlin said.'Of course, we would love to have T.J. out there,' Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward said. The last time the Steelers and Watt had a contract dispute, it didn't get resolved until just days before the season began. Back then, he signed an extension that made him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL.Watt is entering the final year of that deal and is likely looking to surpass Myles Garrett's record four year, $160 million deal that he agreed to in March.

Heyward was in the same shoes as Watt last season and said that being paid what you believe you're worth is a sign of respect by any organization.'(Watt) would love for it to be done. Hopefully we're moving toward that way, but I'm not going to speculate,' Heyward said. 'I just want both sides to win (and) our team to be complete.'Heyward didn't call Watt's absence a distraction for the team. Meanwhile, Tomlin said that he wasn't worried about Watt's future in Pittsburgh. If Watt misses day three of mandatory minicamp, he could be fined more $100,000.

Big Rock's featured artist brings tournament to life with this year's t-shirt design

MOREHAEAD CITY, N.C. (WNCT) — If you are down at Big Rock this week, you will see many people wearing this year's t-shirt design. The design comes curtesy of Big Rock's featured artist, Steve Goione, a marine wildlife illustrator based out of Wilmington. Goione has been Big Rock's featured artist for a few years in a row, and is always making sure each year is unique and brings the tournament to life. 'We try to tell the story of the big rock tournament right through the illustration,' Goione said. 'The Marlin always has to be the big focus piece in the illustration. So so this year I used a big it's a side shot of the Marlins very bold, very bright colors.' As Big Rock grows in popularity worldwide, so does the design of the t-shirts. 'I travel around the world and I've seen big rock shirts in Kona, Hawaii. I've seen them in Bermuda, I've seen them in Costa Rica, in airports,' Goione said. 'It's just amazing, it makes me feel really good.' Goione's orginal illustration will be auctioned off, with all of the proceeds going to Big Rock affiliated charities. Ben Roethlisberger paints troubling picture for Steelers, T.J. Watt contract situation

Ben Roethlisberger paints troubling picture for Steelers, T.J. Watt contract situation Everyone has an opinion on the T.J. Watt holdout that appears to be brewing — including Steelers legendary QB Ben Roethlisberger. On his podcast, Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger, Big Ben discussed the possibility of Watt and the Steelers being far apart on a potential deal and compared the situation to his infamous "hold-in" in 2021: "This year he's not there — and so you asked the question, what's the difference? I don't know. Only T.J. knows the difference. My only speculation and guess — and it's because you brought it up — [the Steelers and Watt] must not be close," argued Big Ben. "Like, if you're close — I would think T.J. would do what he did last time, like, 'Okay, we're close. We'll get this thing done.' Maybe they're not even in the ballpark, and T.J.'s like, 'Why am I coming if we're not in the ballpark?'" Roethlisberger's speculative take makes perfect sense — as reaching the new $40 million per year standard set by Browns DE Myles Garrett makes these negotiations far more difficult.
