Goosen, who has had an on-and-off season with injury and last played for the Bulls against Cardiff in their penultimate game of the regular season, is the only change to the starting line-up in place of Keagan Johannes. Johannes, who has delivered strong performances when filling in for Goosen, moves to the bench where backline player Stedman Gans makes way. The Bulls have named Jan-Hendrik Wessels, Johan Grobbelaar and Wilco Louw to face up to the Sharks' Bok front row, while Cameron Hanekom, Marcell Coetzee and Ruan Nortje make up a formidable loose trio. Willie le Roux is at fullback, with Canan Moodie and Sebastian de Klerk the fliers on the wings. Bulls team 15 Willie le Roux, 14 Canan Moodie, 13 David Kriel, 12 Harold Voster, 11 Sebastian de Klerk, 10 Johan Goosen, 9 Embrose Papier, 8 Cameron Hanekom, 7 Ruan Nortje (captain), 6 Marcell Coetzee, 5 JF van Heerden, 4 Cobus Wiese, 3 Wilco Louw, 2 Johan Grobbelaar, 1 Jan-Hendrik Wessels Substitutes: 16 Akker van der Merwe, 17 Simphiwe Matanzima, 18 Mornay Smith, 19 Jannes Kirsten, 20 Marco van Staden, 21 Zak Burger, 22 Keagan Johannes, 23 Devon Williams 3h ago No Etzebeth for Sharks in Loftus showdown with Bulls The Sharks will start with a new lock pairing in their United Rugby Championship semi-final against the Bulls, after skipper Eben Etzebeth picked up an injury during training this week. Etzebeth, who has spent substantial time on the sidelines this season, will miss the Sharks' biggest game of the season. Sharks coach John Plumtree said on Friday that Etzebeth suffered a head knock during training earlier this week and a call was made not to field him this weekend. 'He took a knock a head knock at training and we decided that it's best not to risk him this week,' Plumtree said. 'We made a pretty early call and he's feeling a lot better, by the way. He's been communicating with me and the team. 'I'm not too concerned and, if we go through, he'll be available for next week." Etzebeth is expected to be with the Springboks on Sunday as he is part of the recently announced training squad. The 33-year-old has joined his lock partner, Jason Jenkins, who is also on the mend after leaving the field with an injury in last weekend's quarter-final clash against Munster. Plumtree's hand has been forced in starting with the lock pairing of Corne Rahl and Emile van Heerden. The Sharks' forward pack is made up of an all-Springbok front row in Ox Nche, Bongi Mbonambi and Vincent Koch. Siya Kolisi will captain the team in the No 8 jersey, with James Venter and Vincent Tshituka completing the loose trio. The Hendrikse brothers, Jaden and Jordan, will form the halfback pairing with Andre Esterhuizen and Lukhanyo Am in midfield. Makazole Mapimpi and Ethan Hooker will be on the wings with Aphelele Fassi at fullback. The one change on the bench that stands out is Jurenzo Julius taking the place of Francois Venter. Aljamain Sterling: Yair Rodriguez getting UFC featherweight title shot is 'crazy work'
Aljamain Sterling: Yair Rodriguez getting UFC featherweight title shot is 'crazy work' Aljamain Sterling is baffled by Yair Rodriguez being the potential next UFC title challenger. UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (27-5 MMA, 14-4 UFC) confirmed the rumors that Rodriguez (19-5 MMA, 10-4 UFC) is in discussion to be the first title defense of his second reign, but nothing is official yet. Sterling (24-5 MMA, 16-5 UFC), who's coming off a unanimous decision loss to Movsar Evloev (19-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) at UFC 310, thinks his past opponent was snubbed out of a title shot. Rodriguez snapped a two-fight losing skid by defeating former Bellator champion Patricio Freire at UFC 314. One of his two losses came in a title fight against Volkanovski at UFC 290. "If they give it to Yair, all respect to Yair, but that's crazy work," Sterling told Home of Fight. "But he's popular. ...I'm not the UFC, I don't run the company. These guys have all these metrics and things like that they follow to try to promote fights. I'm always the guy based on merit. I had to work my ass off. I've seen a lot of guys work their ass off and not get their fair shake. I almost didn't get a fair shake, and I had to claw tooth and nail just to get to a title shot. "It was lackluster to say the least, and I was able to redeem myself. It's just one of those things. You never know what the UFC is thinking, and what they think makes the most sense for their bottom line, and I get that. You get into this sport thinking, 'Oh, I'm going to work hard and if I win X, Y, and Z, then I'm going to get this opportunity,' and not everyone gets that fair shake so, it is what it is. Once you understand that, you can make peace with it. For '45, I thought it should have been Movsar." As for what's next for Sterling, the former UFC bantamweight champion thinks he was in the wrong end of the decision against Evloev. He hopes his next fight is a matchup which allows him to continue his ascent up the featherweight ladder. "I was hoping that I could maybe fight a Diego (Lopes) or Brian Ortega," Sterling continued. "Much love and respect to Brian. He's cool, but we're not like me and Merab (Dvalishvili), we're not training together. So, it's just one of those things where I'm up at the weight class. "Even Arnold Allen, even called out Lerone Murphy. I just want to fight someone where the fight means something. I won the belt, I'm no longer this up-and-comer unknown name so, I want to fight guys who actually mean something for my career. Not just helping a young fighter build their career."

SPAR Group sees EPS dip despite steady H1 2025 revenue growth
Multinational South Africa-based retail chain SPAR Group's operational performance during the first half (H1) of fiscal 2025 (FY25) has shown mixed results across different regions, with headline earnings per share (EPS) from continuing operations dipping slightly by 0.4% to 450.1 cents. Revenue from ongoing operations held steady at R66.1bn ($3.72bn), with gross profit climbing to R7.1bn. Operating profit experienced a modest rise of 1.6%, reaching R1.5bn, bolstered by enhanced cost management efforts. The group's earnings before interest, taxation, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) also saw an uptick of 1.7%, amounting to R1.7bn. SPAR Group made headway on its strategic objectives amidst a tough market environment, focusing on five critical areas: exiting Poland, restructuring debt within the group, conducting a strategic review of European operations, expanding the implementation of SAP [systems, application and data processing], and targeting an improvement in southern Africa EBIT margin to 3%, alongside achieving a leverage ratio between 1.5 and 2.0 times by fiscal year-end 2026. During the first half of 2025, the group achieved three of these goals: finalising the sale of SPAR Poland in January, completing debt restructuring in March, and announcing plans in May to divest its Swiss operations as well as AWG in the UK after thorough strategic evaluation and consideration of capital allocation priorities and long-term strategic direction. The group is in advanced negotiations with potential buyers for these businesses. SPAR Switzerland and AWG have been classified as discontinued operations, with post-tax losses including impairments amounting to R4.4bn. The board believes that the divestments are consistent with SPAR's strategy to concentrate on strengthening its core businesses in Southern Africa and Ireland. Cash generation from total operations significantly increased 50.1% to R1.9bn. In Southern Africa, the group's wholesale turnover increased 1.7%, with its grocery and liquor segments contributing to this growth. Retail revenue in the region also saw an increase of 1.9%. The SPAR2U app's delivery volumes surged 174%, demonstrating the brand's growing on-demand presence. Build it, the group's building materials retail brand, posted a sales increase of 4.1% with strong like-for-like retail growth. In Ireland, despite a marginal local currency revenue decrease, the gross margin benefited from a favourable product mix. The minimum wage increase, however, led to higher labour costs. No interim dividend has been declared for the period, with future considerations dependent on macroeconomic and operating conditions. Looking forward, SPAR Group is concentrating on margin improvement and operational execution in its core markets. In southern Africa, SPAR aims to enhance retail segments and operational efficiencies, with initiatives such as expanding on-demand services and increasing private label product penetration. In Ireland, SPAR Group subsidiary BWG Group, a food retail and wholesale distribution company, is focusing on growing its convenience retail brands and exploring new opportunities. "SPAR Group sees EPS dip despite steady H1 2025 revenue growth" was originally created and published by Retail Insight Network, a GlobalData owned brand.
