How to remember 2024-25

Yahoo6 days ago

That Nottingham Forest and their supporters were disappointed at missing out on a place in the Champions League speaks volumes about the strides the club has taken over the past 12 months.
The final whistle at the weekend brought with it a strange mix of feelings. While celebrating European football returning to the City Ground for the first time in a generation and acknowledging the efforts of a small, ultimately too-thin squad in taking the behemoths of English football all the way in the race to finish in the top five, it did feel a little flat.
Being one equaliser away from the Europa League undoubtedly hurts, as does not claiming an extra couple of points somewhere along the way that would have meant Champions League football.
But this season will be remembered as the best in 30 years, with some huge landmarks along the way such as being the first Premier League team ever to double their points tally year-on-year and the first Forest team ever to win at Anfield and Old Trafford in the same season.
Beating Liverpool was also their first win at Anfield in 55 years.
There was the huge win over Brighton, a golden glove for the excellent Matz Sels, a monumental first season in English football for player of the season Nikola Milenkovic, some remarkable goalline clearances (Murillo and Harry Toffolo spring to mind!), 20 goals for Chris Wood, a first FA Cup semi-final since 1991, and for the travelling fans, 10 away wins.
For context, across their previous three seasons in the top flight, they had won nine.

All this for a team and a club widely tipped to be relegated by a number of high-profile pundits ahead of the season. Even the most optimistic Forest fan might have struggled to see a top-half finish, and now they have a European campaign to prepare for.
An interesting summer lies ahead because the current squad struggled with a whole season of Premier League football. Ultimately, it was half a dozen games too thin as fatigue and injuries kicked in.
As they try to develop further for next season, depth would have been needed - even without Thursday nights across Europe to consider!

Fubo and DAZN Strike Multi-Year Sports TV Network Partnership

Fubo and DAZN have struck a multi-year deal that will see the sports streamers distribute their owned-and-operated linear channels, which include exclusive sports rights, on each other's platforms in the U.S. Under the agreement, Fubo will be home to DAZN's exclusive boxing and MMA events through the launch of a DAZN1 linear channel launching Tuesday. Fubo subscribers can purchase DAZN1 as a stand-alone or as an add-on to the company's virtual MVPD product. Fubo will also offer its customers DAZN's live Pay-Per-View events. Meanwhile, DAZN will offer Fubo Sports, the company's free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channel featuring 400 live sporting events annually, as well as sports documentaries and movies. The move is part of the first phase of an 'integrated partnership,' which the companies said would include additional collaborations in the future. 'Fubo and DAZN's partnership delivers more premium sports to fans, wherever they choose to watch,' Fubo co-founder and CEO David Gandler said in a statement. 'Adding DAZN's unmatched fight content enhances our sports entertainment lineup while offering customers greater flexibility. 'Our deal with Fubo enables DAZN to increase access to top-tier sports content for fans in the U.S. and Canada, as we continue to provide the ultimate sports entertainment experience,' DAZN Group CEO Shay Segev added. 'Fubo's viewers can now watch the world's leading fight talent compete in unmissable events as part of a new DAZN premium fight package. Meanwhile, the launch of Fubo Sports on the DAZN platform will be an exciting addition to our ever-expanding portfolio of premium sports content.' (AP Photo/Luca Bruno) MILAN (AP) — The 5-0 rout by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final may have been Simone Inzaghi's final match in charge of Inter Milan. Inzaghi told Inter on Tuesday that he is leaving the club, the Gazzetta dello Sport reported, although there was not immediately an official announcement. Advertisement Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal is reportedly trying to lure Inzaghi with an offer of more than 20 million euros ($23 million) per season. Inzaghi coached Inter to the Serie A title last year, and was also in charge when the Nerazzurri lost the 2023 Champions League title to Manchester City. He has been at Inter for exactly four years and has one more season remaining on his contract. If Inzaghi is leaving, it's unclear who will coach Inter at the Club World Cup in the United States starting June 14. Al-Hilal's opener at the Club World Cup is against Real Madrid on June 18. There has been speculation that Inter would go after Cesc Fabregas, who coached Como to a 10th-place finish in Serie A. Inter finished second in the Italian league last month, one point behind champion Napoli. Inter did not immediately reply to a request for comment. ___ AP soccer:
