Houthis fire ballistic missile at 'Israel' in first attack since Tehran-Tel Aviv ceasefire

Yemen's Houthi movement said Saturday it launched a ballistic missile at 'Israel', marking its first declared attack since the ceasefire between Iran and 'Israel' took effect on June 24 following their brief but intense 12-day war.
The missile, identified by the Houthis as a 'Dhu al-Fiqar' ballistic missile, was reportedly aimed at a 'sensitive Israeli enemy target' in the southern city of Beersheba, according to a statement from Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree.
In 'Israel', sirens were heard across multiple areas, prompting brief alarm. The 'Israeli' military later announced that the missile was 'most likely successfully intercepted' and caused no damage.
Houthi officials framed the launch as retaliation for 'Israeli' actions in Gaza, where the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate after months of war.
'The attack was in response to the crimes of the criminal Zionist enemy against civilians in the Gaza Strip,' Saree said in the statement. He added that the group would 'continue its supportive operations until the aggression against Gaza stops and the siege is lifted.'

France reaffirms determination to recognize State of Palestine

Ammon News - French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated has affirmed that France is "determined to recognize the State of Palestine," emphasizing the urgent need for international action in light of the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza. In an interview with France's LCI news channel, Barrot condemned the killing of hundreds of Palestinian aid seekers by Israeli forces in Gaza, calling it "a disgrace and an affront to human dignity." According to Barrot, at least 500 Palestinians were killed and around 4,000 injured in May alone while trying to access food aid in the besieged Strip. He affirmed that both France and the European Union are ready to support safe and fair food distribution efforts in Gaza. Barrot sharply criticized Israel's current approach, saying that, outside the oversight of the United Nations and international organizations, Israeli forces—supported by the United States—have carried out a limited aid distribution plan since May 27, during which soldiers have reportedly opened fire on Palestinians waiting for food. He noted that this tactic effectively forces civilians to choose between 'starvation or being shot.' Medical sources report that since May 27, at least 549 Palestinians have been killed and more than 4,066 injured while attempting to collect humanitarian aid near distribution points. "There is no justification for the continued Israeli attacks on Gaza," Barrot said. "We are committed to recognizing the State of Palestine, and this will happen as part of a joint initiative that encourages all parties to create the necessary conditions for the establishment of that state." Barrot's remarks come amid a growing wave of international support for Palestinian statehood. On May 22, 2024, Norway, Ireland, and Spain officially announced their recognition of the State of Palestine, effective May 28. Prior to this, eight European Union member states—including Sweden, Poland, and Hungary—had already extended formal recognition. To date, 149 out of 193 United Nations member states officially recognize the State of Palestine.

Former Israeli PM Naftali Bennett calls for Netanyahu's resignation

Ammon News - Former Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has called on current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign, arguing that his political management is 'disastrous' and that he is responsible for the deep divisions within Israeli society. 'He has been in power for 20 years, that is too much and it is not healthy,' Bennett stated in a television interview with Channel 12. 'He needs to go home,' he added. Bennett, leader of the New Right, contributed to Netanyahu's ouster from power in 2021 by forming a short-lived coalition government with centrist Yair Lapid, which lasted for one year. In his interview, Bennett supported the recent military attack against Iran, calling it a 'very good and necessary' decision. He emphasized, however, that this operation would not have been possible without the foundations that, as he claimed, he laid when he was prime minister from June 2021 to June 2022. Regarding the war in Gaza, he praised the operational performance of the Israeli army, but strongly criticized the political management, calling it a 'disaster.' He even proposed reaching a comprehensive agreement that would lead to the release of all hostages, leaving the elimination of Hamas to a future government. Bennett did not reveal whether he plans to return to politics, although polls show him as the strongest candidate to defeat Netanyahu in the next elections. He remained enigmatic, only stating that he is 'not making lists' of candidates for now. The current term of the Knesset formally ends in 2026, however, early elections are not ruled out.

Smotrich: Trump, Netanyahu will 'free Middle East' from Palestinian cause

'Israeli' Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said Saturday that US President Donald Trump and 'Israeli' Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will work together to 'free the Middle East from its dependency on the Palestinian cause,' as he put it. In a lengthy post on X, Smotrich strongly rejected the idea of establishing a Palestinian state, calling it a 'terrorist state,' and asserted that Tel Aviv 'will not agree to divide the land or hand over territory to the Palestinians.' He described the Palestinian cause as 'one of the greatest lies spread by political correctness,' and praised Trump for what he claimed is the former president's history of 'exposing such lies.' Smotrich said both Trump and Netanyahu 'see things the same way,' expressing confidence in their shared political vision. 'We will lead the region toward many years of real peace, based on interests and strength, not on rewarding violence,' he wrote, adding that the coming phase will include an expansion of the Abraham Accords with broader Arab participation, particularly from Saudi Arabia. In another part of his post, Smotrich praised what he called 'two weeks of national pride,' referring to recent strikes by the 'Israeli' military and Mossad on what he described as 'Iranian threats,' which he claimed have strengthened 'Israel's' regional standing. He also criticized past peace efforts, vowing not to repeat what he called 'mistakes of the past,' and accused late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat of 'double standards.' Smotrich declared that the 'Israeli' government 'will not accept superficial reforms within the Palestinian Authority, nor allow our cities to become another Gaza or Be'er Sheva.' He concluded by expressing confidence in Netanyahu's leadership, stating: 'I know Netanyahu well. He understands the danger of a Palestinian state and strongly opposes it. He will not squander the victories achieved in this war.'
