Man charged after shots fired in Southern Cross, WA

Police have charged a man who allegedly stole and repeatedly shot a firearm at a property in Western Australia's eastern Wheatbelt. A WA Police spokesperson said they received reports of multiple gunshots near Ghooli, about 380km east of Perth, on Wednesday evening. Police allege that followed a burglary in the area around 5.30pm, where a firearm was stolen. Officers from the Tactical Response Group, Regional Operations Group and Police Airwing were deployed to assist local police from Southern Cross. Supplied Police Airwing footage shows officers tracking the solitary figure along Great Eastern Highway, before he is surrounded and taken into custody. "The allegedly stolen firearm was located and seized and investigations are ongoing," the police spokesperson said. "There are no reports of any injuries or damage to property, and there is no ongoing threat to the public." A 31-year-old man from Carey Park, in Bunbury's suburbs, was arrested and charged with multiple offences, including home burglary, unlawful possession of a firearm and using a firearm in a manner likely to cause fear. He is due to face Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.

Man allegedly armed with blowtorch threatens to set alight gas cylinders at Bunnings

A man has been charged after he allegedly threatened to set fire to gas cylinders with a blowtorch during a wild rampage at a Bunnings store in Perth. Officers from the Tactical Response Group and other emergency crews swarmed the Cannington store on Wednesday evening, after the man allegedly armed himself with a blowtorch and threatened to set alight the gas cylinders outside the store. Police allege the man had been seen acting suspiciously inside the Bunnings just before the incident. The TRG and emergency crews evacuated the store and set up a 200m exclusion zone as officers tried to negotiate with the man. Footage from the incident shows the man suddenly fall as several TRG officers approached and pinned him to the ground. Firefighters can be seen spraying water across the scene as more officers swarm in to control the man. A witness on holiday from Germany told The West Australian newspaper a person who was there earlier said he put the gas cylinders on fire. 'You could hear gunshots, but it was different from normal ones,' Nelly Funk told the newspaper. 'The firefighters were spraying water on him. 'I was shocked, when I heard the police it was quite a shock for me – we are actually from Germany, and it's our first month here.' A 42-year-old man from Kelmscott in Perth's east has been charged with burglary, stealing, being armed to cause fear and endangering life. He is due to appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Alan Adnan: Driver in Claremont Jetty police stand-off gets bail but ordered to stay in psychiatric ward

The man accused of driving a Jeep off Claremont Jetty during a tense police stand-off has been granted bail but will only change psychiatric wards for now. Alan Adnan was swarmed by tactical response group officers some three hours after police began trying to negotiate with the 32-year-old at the western suburbs landmark in May. It is alleged he had driven erratically on Walter Street — hitting a bin then a 57-year-old woman's car — then demanded a USB charger cable he spotted inside her vehicle while threateningly brandishing a tyre iron and ranting. The Bull Creek man is further accused of climbing onto the bonnet of her car and striking the windscreen, then ramming a police car that blocked him in after he drove onto the jetty. He allegedly reversed it before driving towards a police boat and plunging into Freshwater Bay. In a bizarre Perth Magistrates Court appearance the next day, Mr Adnan vigorously waved and smiled at family members in the public gallery, shouted 'objection' to parts of the police prosecutor's version of events and claimed: 'I was drugged by a meth addict'. 'My car was taken from me then then they off,' he yelled. Three passengers had apparently been inside the car before the dramatic scenes on the jetty. In the same court on Thursday, Mr Adnan's lawyer said that due to the 'circumstances surrounding' the incident, his charges of armed robbery and criminal damage 'may not remain as is'. 'I will just leave it at that,' the lawyer said. At the first hearing, the police prosecutor said additional charges of reckless driving and threats to do an unlawful act were being considered. Mr Adnan was remanded in custody at the high-security Frankland Centre within Graylands Hospital and appeared calm in his videolink to the court on Thursday, thanking the magistrate when she explained his bail conditions. The court was told the Mental Health Tribunal had met on Wednesday and extended his involuntary treatment order until September, which could be revoked if his treating psychiatrist deemed it unnecessary. A community treatment order, with restrictions, will be the alternative in that instance. Mr Adnan was told he would be transferred to a locked ward in a civilian hospital in the next day or two. He is not to consume illegal drugs and alcohol, and when he is not a resident in a treatment facility, he must undergo random breath testing and urinalysis, and report twice a week to Murdoch police station. 'OK, thank you, your honour,' Mr Adnan said, as his relatives again looked on from the public gallery. The matter will return to court on July 9.
