Koenen stars as Lightning thrash struggling Giants
Sunshine Coast Lightning have brought the Giants crashing back to earth, with star goal shooter Cara Koenen producing a career-best display in a 74-56 Super Netball win at UniSC Arena.
Koenen scored a career-high 56 goals from 62 attempts in Sunday's match to help lead her team to the comprehensive victory.
The Giants committed a whopping 25 turnovers - including 10 alone from goal attack Sophie Dwyer - as the Lightning made them pay.
It was 62-40 by three-quarter time before the Lightning eased up in the final quarter.
The result improved Sunshine Coast's record to 3-2, while the Giants are 1-4 and equal bottom of the ladder alongside the Melbourne Mavericks.

Sunday's result was all the more disappointing for the Giants given they had upset defending champions Adelaide 64-63 a week earlier.
"We had a disappointing loss last week in the West (against the Fever). I'm proud of what we put out on court today," Koenen told Fox Sports.
"It (the win) was all down to work rate. There were repeated efforts every time.
"Our defensive end has been doing an amazing job, so we (the attackers) are just looking to convert on our end."
After a relatively even first quarter, the Giants went to the first break only down by three goals.
The Lightning's lead stretched to nine by half-time, but it was the third quarter that really broke the Giants' spirit.
Buoyed by Koenen's hot hand, the Lightning won the quarter 23-10 to put the contest to bed.
Giants shooter Matisse Letherbarrow ended the match with six Super Shots to her name from eight attempts in an impressive display.
But the Giants' numerous turnovers meant no amount of hot shooting could save them.

'Not happy': Fans react amid sad news around Tony Squires and Candice Warner
Fans are expressing their sadness after it was revealed on Saturday that long-running sports program 'The Back Page' has been axed after 29 years. Tony Squires, who has hosted the show on Fox Sports for the last 12 years, confirmed the sad news but admitted he wasn't surprised. The sport talk-show has been running since 1997, but will wrap up for good after three more episodes. 'Ironically, I wrote a story in 2021 saying television shows don't usually last 25 years,' Squires told . 'They're like animals on the Savannah - very few of them die of old age. 'There's always something young and exciting with big nasty teeth, coming to get them. Well, The Back Page is now 29 years old, I've been hosting it for almost 13 years ... and we've been got. To be honest, it wasn't a shock.' The late, great Mike Gibson was the show's first host back in 1997, and held the role up until 2012. Peter FitzSimons, Billy Birmingham, Tracey Holmes and Jeff Wells were the panellists when it first began, and in recent times it regularly featured journalist Robert Craddock, ironwoman Candice Warner, NRL legend Greg Alexander and AFL great Brad Johnson. Warner, the wife of Aussie cricket great David, became a weekly panellist in 2022 and used the show as a launching pad for her burgeoning media career. Former AFL player-turned-radio host Ryan Fitzgerald was also a regular panellist, as were Socceroos legends Robbie Slater and Mark Bosnich. 'It's been a privilege to host a show once run by the legendary Mike Gibson,' said Squires, who's expected to stay on with Fox Sports in another role. 'But most of all it's been fun - like sitting at the pub with your mates pretending to know a shitload about sport. 'I'm going to miss it. Not because it was a job, but because it was my social life. LIV Golf Virginia: Anirban Lahiri charges to lead after stellar 64 in Round 2
GAINESVILLE, Va. — Although the spotlight is typically on Crushers GC captain Bryson DeChambeau, and rightfully so, it was another Crushers GC player that charged to the top of the leaderboard on Super Saturday at LIV Golf Virginia. Anirban Lahiri, who has four runner-up finishes without a win on LIV Golf, shot a brilliant 7-under 64 to seize control of the individual leaderboard. The 37-year-old made seven birdies without a blemish on the scorecard. Lahiri made a 39-foot par putt on the 16th hole to salvage his momentum and converted another miraculous par on the 18th after having to get up-and-down from over 100 yards away in the rough. At 9-under par, they find themselves just two shots back of Lahiri. McDowell, who's never finished better than T5 in any LIV Golf event, shot a 5-under par with birdies on Nos. 15, 16 and 17 to catapult himself up the leaderboard. Watson, captain of RangeGoats GC, made birdies on 17 and 18 before finishing with pars on Nos. 1 and 2 to finish his round. Kaymer has played steady golf all week and kept himself in the mix with a 67 after sharing the first-round lead with DeChambeau. McDowell, 47, Watson, 48, and Kaymer, 40, will all have a fantastic opportunity to challenge for their first LIV Golf win. All four Smash players shot under par with Talor Gooch and Jason Kokrak both shooting 67 to go along with McDowell's 66. Paul Casey played an inspired round for the Crushers, shooting a 5-under-66. LIV Golf's top three in the individual standings: Joaquin Niemann, DeChambeau and Jon Rahm all are within striking distance. The three are tied for fifth at 7 under and just four off the lead. Lahiri, Watson and McDowell will play in Sunday's final group, as tee times have been moved up due to weather.
