Parakao homicide: Northland police launch fresh appeal for information

Police have launched a fresh appeal for information in relation to the death of Geoffrey Ware earlier this month.
The 55-year-old's body was found at his home in Parakao just before 4pm on May 9.
Police launched a homicide investigation named 'Operation Cossar' into Ware's death.
Today, Detective Senior Sergeant Michelle Harris of Whangārei Criminal Investigation Branch said a portal had been set up for photographs or videos that could be of assistance in the investigation.
'Police are still seeking information and sightings in the areas Mangakahia Rd, Otaika Valley Rd and State Highway 14 towards Whangārei, between 2pm and 8pm on Friday, May 9,' she said.

Photo: Fiji Police Force A 26-year-old Northland man has been charged with murder, after a man's body was found at Parakao, 40km west of Whangārei, earlier this month. Detective Senior Sergeant Michelle Harris of Whangārei CIB said the death of Geoffrey Ware, 55, was initially regarded as unexplained, but that was later upgraded to homicide. Harris said police were not looking for anyone else in connection with Ware's death, but she was still keen to hear about any sightings of a 1999 blue-and-silver Mitsubishi L200 in the Parakao area, between 8am-6.15pm on 9 May. She also wanted to hear from anyone who had seen a man walking along State Highway 14 that afternoon and evening. Information could be uploaded to the Operation Cossar website . "The enquiry is ongoing and we appreciate all the help we've received from members of the public," Harris said. "We're appealing to anyone who hasn't come forward to please contact us." The arrested man had been remanded in custody and was due to appear in the Whangārei High Court on 26 May. 'We are also interested in sightings of a man reportedly seen walking along SH14 that afternoon and evening,' Detective Senior Sergeant Harris says. 'We are encouraging people to report on the portal link set up by the Operation Cossar enquiry team.'
