Gujarat University
's
animation department
is embroiled in a dispute for refusing RTI requests on
self-financed programmes
. The university administration continues to withhold information despite directives from the
Gujarat Information Commission
and education department.
Devdatt Rana, who filed an RTI application in 2023, requested financial documentation, audit statements and course details from the mobile applications department within the animation faculty. The then-coordinator Kamaljeet Lakhtariya rejected the application, stating self-financed courses were exempt. Lakhtariya, currently imprisoned for a substantial financial fraud, is suspected of intentionally concealing RTI information.

Vijayawada: Police arrested six men for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl several times in a village in Sri Sathya Sai district. SP V Ratna said that they arrested the accused on Monday following a complaint lodged by the minor. Nepal man held with explosives near key suspension bridge in Pithoragarh
Pithoragarh: A 37-year-old man from Nepal was arrested by the Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) on Sunday night near a key suspension bridge in Dharchula area of Pithoragarh district, which connects India and Nepal, after explosives were found in his possession. Officials said SSB personnel spotted Yam Bahadur Khatri, a resident of Padampur village in Surkhet district, "loitering suspiciously" near the bridge. Upon searching his bag, they recovered one kilogram of explosive emulsion and five detonators. He was immediately detained and handed over to Dharchula police on Monday for further investigation. KS Rawat, circle officer of Dharchula, said, "The explosives Khatri was carrying were made in Nepal. During interrogation, he claimed he was transporting the material for construction purposes. He said the route on the Nepal side was in poor condition, so he decided to take the Indian road to reach his destination. That's when he was arrested by an SSB patrol team." 2 Charred To Death As E-Rick Being Charged Catches Fire
New Delhi: Two men, including a 55-year-old, died after a fire broke out when an e-rickshaw was being recharged in east Delhi's Dilshad Garden late on Sunday night. The deceased were identified as Shashi and Ballu. Police received information about the fire in Tahirpur Kodi Colony around 11.39pm on Sunday. The cops described the building where the incident took place as a ground floor and three upper floors built on an approximately 25 sq yard plot. "The fire had broken out on the ground floor of the house. Head constable Rajkumar acted promptly and evacuated a woman named Meera Devi," a police officer said. After the fire service extinguished the flames, the bodies of Shashi, 25, an e-rickshaw driver, and Ballu, 55, a vagabond who occasionally drove e-rickshaws, were discovered. They were sent to the hospital to ascertain the cause of death. Two e-rickshaws were also found scorched. Police said that the charging point was illegal. "Inquiries revealed that e-rickshaws were being recharged on the ground floor of the house. The fire was caused by a short circuit," the officer revealed. Shashi lived in the house with his parents and three brothers.
