Kenya's flower exports poised to rise in 2025 amid growing demand
NAIROBI, June 4 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's flower exports are forecast to rise to 110 billion Kenyan shillings (about 851 million U.S. dollars) in 2025, up from 835 million dollars recorded in 2024, a trade lobby said Wednesday.
Clement Tulezi, chief executive officer of the Kenya Flower Council, told Xinhua in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, that performance exceeded expectations during the recent Valentine's Day season, which is traditionally a peak period for flower sales.
"We are experiencing steady demand for flowers from all key markets," Tulezi said on the sidelines of the International Floriculture Trade Expo 2025.
The three-day event brought together senior government officials, flower growers and buyers, cargo firms, and exhibitors from 83 countries to discuss ways to reduce the carbon footprint of the global floriculture industry.
According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, the flower sector is one of the country's leading sources of foreign exchange earnings, alongside diaspora remittances, tourism, tea, and coffee.
Tulezi said that another driver of rising export earnings is the expansion of land dedicated to flower farming. The country currently exports over 100 varieties of flowers, with roses continuing to dominate, accounting for more than 60 percent of all floriculture exports.
He said that the European Union, Britain, and the United Arab Emirates remain key markets for Kenya, while Japan, China, and Malaysia are emerging destinations.

YANGON (Xinhua): The 75th anniversary of China-Myanmar diplomatic ties was marked with events in Yangon and Mandalay on Thursday, with a focus on bilateral cooperation and China's ongoing support for Myanmar. In Yangon, a commemorative event was organized to mark the anniversary alongside the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. Meanwhile, a forum welcoming the diplomatic milestone took place in Mandalay. Philippines' jobless rate rises to 4.1 per cent in April
MANILA (Xinhua): The Philippines' unemployment rate in April rose to 4.1 per cent, up from 3.9 per cent in March, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Friday. PSA Chief Dennis Mapa told a press conference that an estimated 2.06 million Filipinos were out of work in April this year, higher than the number of unemployed people in April 2024 at 2.04 million. Despite the slight uptick in unemployment, Department of Economy, Planning, and Development officer in charge and Undersecretary for Policy and Planning Rosemarie Edillon said in a statement that the Philippine labor market continues to demonstrate resilience amid global headwinds. "We remain on track to meet our target unemployment range of 4.4 to 4.7 percent set under the Philippine Development Plan 2023-2028," she said. Meanwhile, the Philippines' gross international reserves rose slightly to US$105.5 billion at the end of May from US$105.3 billion a month earlier, the central bank said on Friday, citing preliminary data.
