The already-eliminated New Zealanders fought off the Argentine powerhouses, who entered the games with hopes of advancing if they won, although as Benfica beat Bayern Munich in the other Group C match, Boca would also have been ousted anyway.
Auckland goalkeeper Nathan Garrow's own goal sent Boca ahead but Christian Gray equalised with a header in the second half to earn his team a remarkable point.
After a weather delay, Boca kept pushing and racked up 40 shots but could not find a way past Garrow, who made up for his first half misfortune with several good saves.
Auckland, who were crushed 10-0 by German giants Bayern in their first game and 6-0 by Benfica in the second, set up to defend with five at the back.
Boca controlled the game but were slow in their build up and struggled to break down the New Zealanders' back-line, with 38-year-old veteran striker Edinson Cavani kept quiet.
The minnows had the first chance of the game, with Regont Murati forcing a save from Agustin Marchesin from the edge of the box.
Boca took the lead after 26 minutes when Lautaro Di Lollo's header from a corner hit the post and was palmed into his own net by Garrow.
Boca twice came close to doubling their lead before the break, with Carlos Palacios whipping a shot from distance against the crossbar. Then, Miguel Merentiel's header hit the woodwork as well.
Auckland, the only amateur side in the competition, scored their first goal of the tournament to level after 52 minutes.
Defender Gray shook off his marker and headed home from Jerson Lagos' corner.
The game was soon suspended because of a weather warning, the fifth at the tournament, and resumed around 50 minutes later.
Boca fans have been some of the most fervent at the tournament and many refused to head inside despite repeated requests from the stadium announcer, preferring to chant in the stands during the storm delay.
By the time the match restarted, without a drop of rain having fallen at Geodis Park, Benfica had beaten Bayern, leaving Boca no chance of progress to the knock-out rounds.
Merentiel struck quickly for Boca but the goal was disallowed for a handball in the build-up.
Garrow made a fine save from Malcom Braida's dipping header as Auckland tried to cling on for a point against one of the giants of world football.
The goalkeeper pulled off another good stop from Kevin Zanon's curling effort from range as the clock ran down.
Boca rained in shots as they desperately attempted to avoid an embarrassing draw but Garrow beat away a Palacios drive and the New Zealanders celebrated wildly as the final whistle blew.

Kylian Mbappe to wear jersey No. 10 for Real Madrid?

Kylian Mbappe could soon start wearing the iconic jersey No. 10 for Real Madrid, according to the newspaper Marca. 10 is his number when he plays for France and played for PSG, but since Luka Modric had that number for Real Madrid, Mbappe played wearing No. 9. He didn't do badly either, scoring 43 goals, top scoring at La Liga, and winning the European Golden Boot. But Marca reports that this likely switch isn't at the behest of the player but is coming from the Real Madrid club itself. 'It would be an update to the personal and club image of a player who, aside from his sporting performance, is a true money-making machine for the club in terms of image rights. And, in this sense, inheriting the number 10 from Modric, a Ballon d'Or winner, would boost his brand in every way,' Marca states. Mbappe is currently recovering from a bout of gastroenteritis that made him miss initial games at the Club World Cup; it's reported that he has lost at least 5-6 kgs. 👕 A special shirt for a special day! 🌟 @KMbappe #WelcomeMbappé — Real Madrid C.F. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 (@realmadriden) July 16, 2024 In July 2024, when he joined Real Madrid, he was unveiled in front of a packed Santiago Bernabeu crowd of over 25,000 fans. Mbappe who was handed the No.9 jersey waved to the fans, embraced club president Pérez and former Madrid player and coach Zinedine Zidane, who invited Mbappé to visit the Spanish club for the first time when he was just a teenager. 'It's incredible day for me. Since being a kid I dreamed about playing for Madrid and today I'm here. It means a lot to me,' the French superstar said then. The message 'Welcome, Mbappé' was shown on the large video boards at the Bernabeu. Some of the club's most iconic moments were also shown while the song 'Nessun Dorma' was played on the loudspeakers. Images of Mbappe's career were also displayed, as well as photos including Mbappé wearing Madrid's uniform as a kid and posing alongside former club star Cristiano Ronaldo The club had also tweeted out his jersey no 9 then.

FIFA Launch Probe Into Antonio Rudiger Racism Allegation

FIFA has opened a disciplinary investigation into Pachuca's Gustavo Cabral after allegations he made a racist comment to Real Madrid's Antonio Rudiger, the global football governing body said Tuesday. The incident came towards the end of the game between the two teams at the Club World Cup on Sunday. "Following an assessment of the match reports, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against CF Pachuca player Gustavo Cabral in relation to the incident involving him and Real Madrid's Antonio Rudiger during the FIFA Club World Cup game played in Charlotte on 22 June," FIFA said on Tuesday. Rudiger was visibly angered following an exchange of words with Argentine Cabral and spoke to Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti Abel. Cabral denied he had racially abused the German centre-back. Asked about the incident in the post-match press conference, Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso said: "In football there is no tolerance for this, and if it happened, then measures should be taken. This is what Antonio has told us and we believe him. It's being investigated now". Cabral, 39, spoke after the game and said his words had been misinterpreted by Rudiger. The Argentine said he had called the defender a "coward", with the Spanish phrase he used similar to another which is linked to racist abuse. "The referee made the racism sign but I was telling him the same thing the whole time -- (coward)," said Cabral.

Benfica Beat Bayern Munich At Club World Cup As Auckland City Hold Boca

Benfica beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in searing heat at the Club World Cup on Tuesday to progress to the last 16 as group winners, while minnows Auckland City claimed a memorable draw against Boca Juniors. Andreas Schjelderup scored the only goal of the Group C clash for Benfica in front of 33,287 fans in Charlotte, finishing first-time from a cutback by his fellow Norwegian Fredrik Aursnes in the 13th minute. The German champions, who left the likes of Harry Kane and Michael Olise on the bench at kick-off, were unable to come back in sweltering afternoon conditions in heatwave-hit North Carolina. Kane and Olise came on at half-time and Bayern did then look more dangerous, but Leroy Sane was denied when clean through by Benfica's Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin. A draw would have allowed Bayern to top the section but a Kimmich effort that found the net was ruled out for offside and Trubin denied Sane again while Kane mistimed a header from close range late on. It was Benfica's first ever win in 14 competitive meetings with the Bavarian side and it means they finish first in the group and so will play the Group D runners-up -- either Chelsea or Esperance -- in Charlotte in the last 16 on Saturday. "I think this was a very fair and important win, historic really," said Benfica coach Bruno Lage. "We were as straightforward and assertive as we should be and I think we were very effective in delivering our strategy today." Bayern finished second and so will go to Miami on Sunday to take on Brazilian giants Flamengo, with a potential quarter-final against European champions Paris Saint-Germain awaiting. "You could see that it was really tough conditions so respect to both teams for that," said Bayern coach Vincent Kompany. "Our first half was not good enough for sure, the second half was definitely more the level that we expected and good enough to score one or two or three goals." Another weather delay That result meant whatever Boca did against Auckland City in Nashville would not be enough to qualify, but the Argentine giants were still expected to do better than draw 1-1 against the tournament minnows from New Zealand. Auckland had lost 10-0 to Bayern and 6-0 to Benfica but this time they recovered from falling behind in the first half when goalkeeper Nathan Garrow palmed a Lautaro Di Lollo header into his own net. Christian Gray equalised with a header in the second half to earn the sole representatives from Oceania a remarkable point. "You can't say we haven't learned from the experience of being at the tournament, I'm thrilled for the players and the club, it's wonderful. It's something to go home with," said City coach Paul Posa. Posa said it was a great result for football in Oceania. "I think it's restored a little bit of pride, a little bit of reputation for us," he added. "We're a tiny club with a huge heart and that's evident for all to see." Chelsea eye last 16 The game was the fifth so far at the tournament to be suspended due to a weather warning, with play stopping for almost an hour -- when the action restarted not a drop of rain had fallen at Geodis Park. Chelsea faced Tunisian champions Esperance later at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, with the Premier League side needing only a draw to confirm their place in the next round from Group D. Flamengo, already assured of top spot in the section, faced eliminated Los Angeles FC at the same time in Orlando. Elsewhere on Tuesday, FIFA opened a disciplinary investigation into Pachuca's Gustavo Cabral after allegations he made a racist comment to Real Madrid's Antonio Rudiger. The incident came towards the end of Sunday's game between the two teams which Real won 3-1. Rudiger was visibly angered following an exchange of words with Argentine Cabral and spoke to the referee. Cabral denied he had racially abused the German centre-back.
