Alex Soros blasted for condemning shooting of Israelis while funding anti-Israel groups
Far-left progressive billionaire Alex Soros is being slammed online for his statement condemning the killing of two Israeli embassy staffers despite funding anti-Israel groups through his Open Society Foundation (OSF).
Soros, who is the son and heir to George Soros' fortune and philanthropic empire, condemned the killings in an X post, saying "the murder of Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky at the Capital Jewish Museum was evil in its most basic form" and that "this brutal antisemitic act must be condemned in the strongest terms."
Milgrim and Lischinsky, two Israeli Embassy staffers who were set to be engaged, were killed outside an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday night.
D.C. police identified the suspect as 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez, who was taken into custody after the shooting attack. He was allegedly seen pacing outside the museum before he approached a group of four people, including the two victims, and opened fire. Rodriguez then reportedly went into the museum, where he was detained by security. He allegedly shouted "Free, free Palestine!" while in custody.

Though Soros condemned the killings, his statement was flooded with replies calling out his funding of radical anti-Israel groups that foment anti-Jewish sentiments.

"Alex, you and your father created this problem through the ruthless and international silencing of critics to open borders policies," said one X user named Joseph Janecka. "Their blood is on your hands as much as their murderers. We will never forget."
Carl Wheless, another user, commented, "You are behind the hate, so excuse us if you don't wish to hear from you on the matter."
Another, Eitan Fischberger, asserted that Soros "funds the revolutionary Marxist group the shooter belonged to."

Though the details of Rodriguez's affiliations are currently unclear as chair of OSF, Soros has helped to fund several leftist groups that have accused Israel of genocide and called for the end of the Jewish state.
In 2023, Israel's minister of diaspora affairs and social equality, Amichai Chikli, told Fox News Digital that Soros is a mirror image of father George's anti-Israel agenda.
When asked if Soros would continue to fund anti-Israel entities that bash the Jewish state, Chikli said it "looks like the son is a replica of his father. We have no expectation that his son will be a big Zionist."
Chikli added that OSF funds Human Rights Watch, which he said, "is attacking Israelis heavily and attacking Israel as an apartheid state and delegitimizing and demonizing Israel."

He also said OSF funds "J Street," an organization that claims to be pro-Israel but has faced criticism because of its support for positions that allegedly favor Iran's regime and the Palestinians.
Chikli also noted that the Soros foundation "gives money to radical small Palestinian organizations in Israel that describe Israel as a colonial state and a moral sin." He cited the NGO Adalah, which means "justice" in Arabic, as an organization "denying the vision of Israel as a Jewish state" in its "published vision for Arab society in Israel."
The elder Soros has also faced intense criticism from Israel's ambassador to the U.N. for pumping over $15 million into a network of nongovernmental organizations that allegedly support Hamas.
"George Soros' donations to organizations that seek the destruction of the State of Israel as a Jewish state is shameful. However, I am not surprised," Israeli ambassador Gilad Erdan told Fox News Digital in December 2023.
"For years, Soros has backed and transferred money to organizations supporting BDS that want to isolate Israel," added Erdan, who has been leading the diplomatic campaign at the U.N. to spell out Hamas' crimes against humanity. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a post on X that the bodies of Gadi Haggai, 72, and Judy Weinstein-Haggai, 70, had been returned to their families in Israel 20 months after they were killed in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel and taken back to Gaza. He said the married couple were recovered in a special operation mounted by the Israeli Security Agency and Israel Defense Forces. "I would like to thank, and express appreciation to, the fighters and commanders for this determined and successful operation. We will not rest, nor will we be silent, until we return home all of our hostages -- the living and the deceased," Netanyahu said. The couple, who held U.S. citizenship, were out for a morning walk near their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz when they were gunned down by Mujahideen Brigades fighters who joined the Hamas-led attacks on Oct. 7 in which around 1,200 Israelis were killed and hundreds abducted. "We welcome the closure and their return to a proper burial at home, in Israel," a statement from the families of Haggai and Weinstein said. Judy Weinstein-Haggai was born in New York but moved to Toronto, Canada, with her family at the age of 3. She married Gadi Haggai after meeting him while working as a volunteer on a kibbutz in the 1970s, according to a bio posted on social media. Gadi Haggai was described as a retired chef, a passionate jazz musician, and a devoted father and grandfather. Israeli President Isaac Herzog said it was a painful time but also a moment of solace. "We will continue to do everything in our power to bring our sisters and brothers back from hell -- the living, for healing and rehabilitation, and the fallen, to be laid to rest in dignity. Every last one of them!" Herzog said on X. The couple's recovery means 54 out of the 251 people originally taken hostage remain in Gaza, of whom about 20 are believed to be still alive. The Slovenia-sponsored resolution, which also called for the unconditional release of all the hostages held by Hamas and other groups and the immediate lifting of all restrictions on aid going into Gaza, was defeated in a 14-1 vote on Wednesday evening in New York, the U.N. said in a news release. Slovenia's representative to the U.N. expressed disappointment at the vetoing of a measure motivated by humanitarian intentions, saying "starving civilians and inflicting immense suffering" was inhumane, in breach of international law and unwarranted by any war objective. U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Dorothy Shea said Washington could not support rewarding Hamas with a permanent cease-fire that would leave it with the ability to carry out further attacks and criticized the "false equivalence" drawn between Hamas and Israel in the text of the draft resolution. She also argued that the draft did not make any mention of the failings of the system used operated by the U.N. and aid charities to distribute humanitarian assistance in Gaza, which she said had been exploited by Hamas for its own benefit. "Performative actions designed to draw a veto" would only serve to undermine efforts to resolve matters through quiet diplomacy currently underway between the parties, said Shea.

TEL AVIV—Israel's military on Thursday said it retrieved the bodies of an American-Israeli couple who were killed during the Hamas-led Oct. 7, 2023 attack and whose bodies were taken into Gaza. Judy Weinstein Haggai and her husband Gad Haggai, both in their 70s, were killed by members of a group called Kitab al-Mujahidin, a Gaza-based Palestinian militant group that isn't affiliated with Hamas. The group then took the couple's bodies into Gaza and has held them there since, the Israeli military said.

BEIRUT — Israeli forces recovered overnight the bodies of an Israeli American couple who were abducted and killed on Oct. 7, 2023, and since held by Hamas, Israeli officials said Thursday morning. The bodies of Judi Weinstein Haggai and Gadi Haggai were recovered from Khan Younis in southern Gaza Strip, the Israel Defense Forces said Thursday. The two were in their early 70s when they were taken from southern Israel and killed, and their bodies held in Gaza, officials said. Weinstein Haggai was also a Canadian citizen, her family has previously said. Israeli officials had said in December 2023 that the couple was killed on the day of the Hamas-led attacks. The IDF said Thursday that the Palestinian militant group Mujahideen Brigades had abducted and killed them, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Hamas had been holding their bodies. 'My beautiful parents have been freed. We have certainty,' their daughter, Iris Weinstein Haggai, wrote on Instagram on Thursday, calling for the remaining hostages to be repatriated. As of Thursday, the bodies of two Israeli Americans — Omer Neutra and Itay Chen — are believed to be still held in Gaza. 'The return of Judi and Gad is painful and heartbreaking, yet it also brings healing to our uncertainty,' the Hostages and Missing Families Forum said in a statement. 'Their return reminds us all that it is the state's duty to bring everyone home, so that we, the families, together with all the people of Israel, can begin the process of healing and recovery. ... The mission can be completed as early as tomorrow morning. This is what the majority of the Israeli people want.' Of the 251 hostages taken in the Oct. 7 attacks, 55 continue to be held in Gaza, at least 32 of which the Israeli military says are dead.
