New Delhi [India], June 17 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday in New Delhi and termed the discussion with him on issues related to the public interest of Delhi as 'thought-provoking'
In a post on X, CM Gupta hailed Amit Shah for his vision and leadership towards national service.

Earlier today, CM Gupta inaugurated the Ayushman Arogya Mandir at Tis Hazari Court Complex. The CM stated that the inauguration was a big milestone and a turning point for the city.
'This is a very big milestone for Delhi, from where a new turning point starts in the journey of the people of Delhi...This is itself a big gift that Delhi has received through the work of the central government, which the previous government did not provide,' the CM said, speaking to the media.
Lashing out at AAP, she stated that the work had been pending for the past four years, yet no efforts had been made to complete it.
'The previous government should have started this work four years ago, but they never even entertained the thought of it.... I consider this as a big crime against the people of Delhi. We've only got eight months to do this work... This is very different from the Mohalla clinics that the previous government opened, which were nothing but temporary structures. We want to provide the people of Delhi with the best of health facilities. The entire team is working on a mission that not a single penny made in the interest of Delhi is wasted,' Gupta further stated.
Last month on May 18, in a major health initiative under the Pradhan Mantri Vay Vandana Yojana, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood distributed Ayushman Bharat cards to senior citizens aged 70 and above in Janakpuri, West Delhi. (ANI)

‘India-Canada relations extremely important': PM Modi meets Mark Carney at G7 summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting with his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada on Tuesday night (local time). Modi said relations between India and Canada are 'extremely important' and the two leaders look forward to working closely to add momentum to the friendship. This was the first meeting between the two leaders since Carney assumed office in May 2025. 'I believe that India-Canada relations are extremely important, and India and Canada should work together and achieve win-win cooperation in several areas,' PM Modi said in his remarks ahead of the bilateral meeting. Modi complimented Canadian PM Carney on the successful hosting of the summit and expressed his enthusiasm for strengthening India-Canada relations and emphasised the shared commitment to democracy, freedom, and the rule of law that binds India and Canada together. "Had an excellent meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney. Complimented him and the Canadian Government for successfully hosting the G7 Summit. PM Modi's visit to Canada comes after a period of friction between New Delhi and Ottawa, triggered by Canadian allegations that Indian agents were involved in the killing of NIA-designated terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar outside a gurdwara in Canada in 2023. India had strongly rejected the allegations. The diplomatic standoff escalated as both countries expelled senior diplomats in a tit-for-tat response. New Delhi has consistently voiced concerns about extremism and anti-India activities on Canadian soil and urged Canadian authorities to take concrete steps to curb such elements. The two nations agreed to return ambassadors to each other's capitals, turning the page on a bitter spat over Nijjar's assassination as Canada's new leader Carney welcomed counterpart Narendra Modi. PM Carney, who took office in March, had invited Modi to the Canadian Rockies as a guest at the summit of the Group of Seven major economies. Carney's predecessor Justin Trudeau last year publicly accused India of involvement in the assassination of a Sikh separatist on Canadian soil and expelled the Indian ambassador, triggering a furious reciprocal response from India. During the meeting, PM Modi expressed gratitude for the invitation extended to India to participate in the high-level gathering. "I am very grateful to you for inviting India to G7 and I am also fortunate that I have got this opportunity to visit Canada once again after 2015 and connect with the people of Canada," he said, news agency ANI reported. The PM also underscored India's global leadership and contributions. "India is the largest democratic country in the world. As the chair of the G20 Summit, India has taken many initiatives that are beneficial for the world. This marks his sixth consecutive participation in the G7 Summit and his first visit to Canada in a decade. PM Modi received a ceremonial welcome at the Calgary airport, where India's acting high commissioner, Chinmoy Naik, was among those who received him. In his opening remarks ahead of the meeting, Mr. Carney said it was a great honour to host PM Modi at the G7. PM Carney also expressed his appreciation for Modi's presence and leadership. Sitharaman visits project site for infra-red observatory in Ladakh
Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Tuesday, visited the project site for national large solar telescope (NLST) near strategic Pangong Lake in Meral area of Ladakh. The finance minister also took to X and related the information. 'Smt @nsitharaman visits the project site for National Large Solar Telescope (NLST), located near the Pangong lake in Merak, Ladakh at an altitude of around 4200m', she wrote on X. NLST is a proposed ground based 2-m class optical and near infra-red (IR) observational facility and the site provides significant periods of coronagraphic skies (high transparency), it read further Dr Annapurni Subramaniam, Director of Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) was also present. On Sunday, Sitharaman had laid the foundation stone for a mini planetarium and Astro Globe at the Hanle Dark Sky Reserve in the Changthang region of the strategic region. The initiative, sanctioned under the special development package comes at an estimated cost of ₹276.65 lakh and aims to promote scientific education, astro-tourism, stargazing, night sky programs, and generate local employment, said an official spokesperson. At the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre's Major Atmospheric Cherenkov Experiment (MACE) Telescope facility in Hanle, Prof Annapurni Subramaniam, Director of the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), and Dr K.K. Yadav from the Astrophysical Sciences Division, BARC presented the telescope's current achievements and future plans. Applauding the efforts of IIA and the local community, Sitharaman remarked, 'This project symbolizes a collaborative spirit between the scientific and public community, a true matter of national pride.' She urged the development of programs tailored for the common public to spark interest in astrophysics through hands-on learning and proactively putting out content generated through these scientific centres. During her visit to Hanle, Sitharaman engaged with delegations of anganwadi workers, contractor associations, and BJP members from Nyoma, attentively listening to their concerns. At Rongo, she visited an animal husbandry site where she met with mostly female pashmina goat and yak herders. She distributed goat-shearing machines to support their livelihood. As part of the Dharti Aaba Janbhagidari Abhiyan, Sitharaman interacted with campaign beneficiaries. She also presented a ₹50 lakh cheque to Nyoma nomads under SBI's Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. The departments of sheep and animal husbandry hosted a live demonstration of the nomadic lifestyle. The department of social and tribal welfare showcased a mobile Anganwadi centre for nomadic children and displayed millet-based dishes prepared within the centre.

Delhi govt opens 33 Arogya Mandirs
Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced that the Capital will get more than 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) by March 2026, as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government inaugurated 33 AAMs and 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras (JAKs) across the city in a major push to overhaul Delhi's primary healthcare network. Speaking at the citywide launch event, Gupta called the rollout a 'decisive break' from the Mohalla Clinics model of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regime, which she said were conducting 'fake tests' and were 'centres of corruption'. Speaking at Tis Hazari, Gupta said each of Delhi's 70 constituencies will receive 15 AAMs. 'The central government sanctioned ₹2,400 crore for these facilities in 2020, but the AAP government blocked their implementation out of political ego. A total of 1,139 Arogya Mandirs have been sanctioned in Delhi, and we have to finish the work by March otherwise the funds will lapse. We have just eight months to execute what should have been done over five years,' she said. Gupta described AAMs as a leap forward from Mohalla Clinics. 'These aren't just OPD centres. AAMs will offer comprehensive healthcare under 12 service packages—ranging from maternal and child health to mental healthcare, geriatric support, and management of chronic diseases like TB, leprosy, and diabetes,' she said, adding that lab tests, preventive care, and national health programme support will also be available in-house. Launched in 2015, Mohalla Clinics were conceived by the AAP as free, walk-in neighbourhood facilities offering basic healthcare and medicines. But since taking power, the BJP has dismantled the network, alleging they were 'hotspots of corruption,' with inflated billing, missing medicines, and misuse of public funds. 'Wherever AAMs come up, Mohalla Clinics will be shut down,' Gupta said. 'People deserve a better, more reliable healthcare system.' In her speech, she lambasted the earlier model. 'Mohalla Clinics were just porta cabins set up on pavements. Health officers were paid ₹40 per patient, incentivising inflated bills over actual care. Many clinics became shelters for stray animals and addicts. Outsourced testing and rent payments became avenues for siphoning off public money.' The new AAMs, officials said, will feature permanent infrastructure, qualified staff, and digital health records. In addition to healthcare services, the 17 new JAKs opened on Tuesday will provide generic medicines and surgical supplies at 50-80% below market rates under the PMBJP scheme. Gupta said these centres will eventually be expanded to all government hospitals in Delhi, providing financial relief to patients and employment to entrepreneurs. Tuesday's launch was conducted via a coordinated blitz across the city. While Gupta inaugurated the Tis Hazari facility, cabinet ministers, MPs, and MLAs held parallel events in their constituencies. Health minister Dr Pankaj Singh opened a centre in Vikaspuri, while cabinet colleagues Parvesh Verma, Kapil Mishra, and Ashish Sood launched facilities at Babar Road, Khajuri Khas, and Janakpuri, respectively. South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri inaugurated the Tughlaqabad centre, and North East MP Manoj Tiwari was present in Yamuna Vihar. Health minister Pankaj Singh said access to quality health care and cleanliness is the fundamental right of every Delhiite. 'Our government is ensuring that this right becomes a reality. There will be no longer need to visit large hospitals for basic treatments. Medical tests and medicines will now be available easily and without delay,' he said. He also said that AAMs will offer OPD services from 8am to 2pm every day except Sunday. Minister Verma said: 'Within 100 days, 33 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and 17 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been inaugurated. This proves the resolve of the Central Government and the working power of the Delhi government.' The launch was targetted by the AAP. AAP Delhi chief Saurabh Bharadwaj accused the BJP of rebranding AAP's work. 'They're repainting Mohalla Clinics and calling them AAMs,' he said, citing the Chirag Delhi dispensary as an example. 'It was inaugurated by AAP in 2017. The BJP simply slapped a new name on the board. They haven't built anything new.' Bharadwaj alleged the BJP's narrative was 'an exercise in daily lies,' adding, 'The people of Delhi know who built these clinics. The BJP is hijacking our work and selling it back as its own.' CM, meanwhile, blamed the AAP government for 'deliberately' avoiding opening Jan Ayshadhi Kendra due to political considerations. 'The new government has decided to establish these centres in all government hospitals, and 17 centers were inaugurated today in 17 hospitals. These Kendras will operate under the PMBJP and offer affordable, quality medicines, medical equipment, and surgical items at prices 50% to 80% lower than market rates. This initiative not only offers financial relief to patients but also creates employment opportunities for entrepreneurs,' said CM Gupta. Gupta stressed her government is committed to long-term capacity building. 'We are working towards a target of three hospital beds per 1,000 citizens in Delhi. Today, that number is just 0.42,' she said.
