How a Bengaluru DCP, with just two cops, fought to control Chinnaswamy stampede
Bengaluru DCP (North) Saidulu Adavath was among the only senior officers on the ground when the crowd surged at multiple gates, The Indian Express reported.
When panic and overcrowding spiralled into tragedy at Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, only a handful of police personnel were on ground, and among them, a single IPS officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Saidulu Adavath, tried to hold the crowd back with his team of two, the report added.

As over 5,000 fans of Royal Challengers Bengaluru surged toward the gates of the stadium to witness the IPL 2025 victory celebration, the situation worsened due to a simultaneous felicitation event at Vidhana Soudha attended by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar.
According to The Indian Express, the pressure on stadium entry points, particularly Gates 2, 2A, 6, 7, 16, 17, 18, and 21, turned them into chokepoints.
At Gate 17, where a lone private security guard was deployed, fans began to push through. The sudden surge led to a crush that turned fatal. Eyewitnesses told the publication that DCP Adavath, delayed by traffic, reached the scene and immediately began using a lathi to disperse the crowd. He managed to shut the gate from the inside, possibly preventing further casualties.
The report adds that police reinforcements were significantly delayed, leaving Adavath and his small team to manage the chaos for nearly an hour. The DCP sustained a hand injury and experienced low blood pressure and irregular heartbeat, for which he was admitted to Ramaiah Hospital. He remains under observation, while his colleagues escaped unhurt.

Bengaluru stampede: RCB official, 3 others sent to judicial custody
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], June 6 (ANI): A Sessions Court in Bengaluru on Friday remanded four individuals, including senior Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) official Nikhil Sosale and three event managers, to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here. They were arrested in a joint operation by the Cubbon Park Police and the Central Crime Branch (CCB) at Kempegowda International Airport in the early hours of June 6 (Friday). Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court on Friday granted interim relief to the office bearers of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), who had approached the court seeking the quashing of the FIR registered against them in connection with the stampede, which claimed the lives of 11 people. In an interim order, the court directed the state police to not take any coercive action against them until further orders. The High Court adjourned the case to June 9. KSCA President Raghu Ram Bhat, Secretary A Shankar, Treasurer ES Jairam, and other KSCA office bearers moved the High Court seeking to quash the FIR. Nikhil Sosale had also approached the High Court challenging his arrest. He claimed that he was arrested without any materials and even before the police had conducted a preliminary enquiry. He has thus sought to declare his arrest illegal. On Thursday, the Bengaluru police registered an FIR against the RCB franchise, DNA Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., an event management company; and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) for culpable homicide, illegal assembly, and other serious charges. A day after the stampede that claimed the lives 11 people, the Karnataka police suspended multiple IPS officers, including the Bengaluru city police Commissioner, B Dayananda. Apart from Dayananda, Additional Commissioner of Police Vikash Kumar Vikash, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekhar HT, Assistant Commissioner of Police Balakrishna and Cubbon Park Police Inspector Girish AK were also suspended with immediate effect. Meanwhile, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for politicising the recent stampede. His remarks came after the BJP accused the Congress-led state government of making the police a 'scapegoat' in the incident. CM Siddaramaiah said the state government has already taken action against officials who were found to be 'visibly responsible' and 'negligent in their duty.' 'They are doing it for politics. I don't do politics. We have taken action against those who were visibly responsible and found to be negligent in their duty,' the Chief Minister said here. (ANI)

Police shoot burglary suspect during arrest bid in Shivamogga
Shivamogga: Police shot and injured a person facing charges of burglary, injuring his left leg, when he refused to surrender during arrest attempt on Friday morning. The accused, identified as Kalkere Manjunath, also known as Kalkere Manja, 47, hails from Bengaluru. The accused has 72 cases against him, ranging from housebreaking and theft, cheating and attempt to murder, Shivamogga SP Mithun Kumar said. Following a house burglary in Gandhi Nagar several months ago, the Jayanagar police received information about his involvement. The victim, Nitin, reported the theft of his vehicle and gold jewellery valued at Rs 11.3 lakh. During an arrest attempt by a police team led by PSI Naveen Kumar from Jayanagar police station, the suspect allegedly assaulted them with a knife, wounding police officer Dyamappa. Despite repeated warnings, he refused to surrender. In self-defence and to protect the lives of our staff, PSI fired a warning shot in the air and then shot the accused in the leg, the IPS officer said. The suspect is receiving medical care at McGann District Hospital, while the injured officer is also receiving treatment. The Vinoba Nagar police station has registered a case.
