ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The City of Rockford, the Rockford Area Arts Council, and the Rockford Public Library have named a new Poet Laureate and Youth Poet for 2025.
Lydia Kozlowski has been named as the 2024-2025 Poet Laureate. According to a press release, 'Lydia brings a unique perspective to her work, deeply influenced by her heritage as the daughter of Polish immigrants. She views the world through this lens, allowing her poetry to explore themes of identity, language, and cultural connection. As Poet Laureate, Lydia has an exciting vision for amplifying diverse voices in the community. One of her key initiatives will be to curate and showcase poems by local women, incorporating multilingual works, translations, and code-switching to celebrate the richness of language and expression.'
Kozlowski, a graduate of Boylan Catholic High School, has had her work published in The Finger Literary Magazine and Spoon River Poetry Review. Her poem, Black Out at the White Eagle, will be featured in the forthcoming Rockford Anthology.
Autumn Rose Smith was named as the 2025 Youth Poet. Smith is currently a junior at Boylan, and had her first poem published in Futures, a book by Appelley Publishing, while she was in the 4th Grade.
She has twice been recognized in the school's Annual Poetry Contest, and has been published seven times.

Former Ring Of Honor Star Announces His Retirement

A former Ring of Honor star has chosen to hang up the boots. Brian Milonas, best known for his tag team, The Bouncers, with the Beer City Bruiser, has decided that it's time for him to retire. Milonas took to social media this morning to announce his retirement from pro wrestling in a very lengthy statement, tweeting out: Advertisement 'Sometimes in life the mind wants something the body just isn't capable of. Since I was a little boy professional wrestling has been something I've been passionate about. From watching the stars of the 80s all the way through till now I have loved professional wrestling. As an adult the pursuit of a career in pro wrestling has been my singular focus. Starting at age 19, I have dedicated so much time, effort and energy into making this crazy dream happen. While I fell short of my ultimate goal of becoming a WWE Superstar, I am very proud of my resume. I've had great times and made great friends along the way. My only regret is not stopping more in the moments to enjoy the journey. Today I say goodbye to the pursuit of pro wrestling as my life. I say goodbye to performing in the ring. As it turns out my last match took place on February 22, 2024. Nearly 23 years of being in the ring and performing has been one of the greatest honors of my life. From the Polish American Veteran's Club in Lowell, MA all the way to Madison Square Garden in New York City. What a ride. Thank you to the fans who have supported me these last two decades. I could never repay you in a million years for how you have made me feel these last two decades. I love and appreciate you all. Advertisement Thank you to my friends, mentors, peers and associates. I hope I've been able to add value to your journey in pro wrestling as so many have in mine. Don't take the professional wrestling business for granted. Your time in it is fleeting and can go by in the snap of a finger. Treat the ring and the locker room as the sacred places they are. Leave it better than you found it. Thank you to my family. Your unconditional love and support propelled me to do some pretty cool things. I love you all. I love professional wrestling and when the time is right I will figure out what my next steps are to be a part of the greatest business in the world. For now though, it is time to close the book on my in-ring career. Much love and appreciation to you all. 815 BlackFest celebrates Black culture and tackles issues

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford's Levings Park will host the return of the 815 BlackFest, a summer festival celebrating Black culture. The event will be headlined by Just Fine, a Mary J. Blige tribute act from Pittsburgh. Along with the food, vendors, and music, the stated goal of the event is to address more serious issues in the Black community, including hunger, domestic violence, mental health, education, financial literacy, and homelessness. 'When we look at those six pillars, almost every avenue of those six pillars I've touched at some point in my life. And a lot of people have,' said community advocate Tina Renee. 'But the one thing that has brought me through those pillars, and the struggles, is having those connections and those resources, or having people who surround me that can help me through those.' 815 BlackFest will take place on June 29th, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Levings Park, 1420 S. Pierpont Ave. Admission is free. Other performers include the Phenomenal Dolls, FAB Dance Team, Yavo, DJ H-Fresh, Trinity Rucker, and a fashion show with Shereese Croft.
