Police detain 13 suspects involved in communications cable theft under Sosma
SHAH ALAM: Police have arrested 13 individuals under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma), in connection with their involvement in communication cable theft, believed to be with intent to sabotage major communication systems in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said that all suspects, arrested through Op Lusuh Mulia, committed these crimes along critical routes supporting government data infrastructure and the security sector.
"Disruptions to these facilities have the significant potential to affect the maintenance of telecommunication services and related communication infrastructure, thereby threatening public order.
"Therefore, all suspects will be further detained for a period not exceeding 28 days under the provisions of Section 4(5) of Sosma to assist the ongoing investigation," he said in a statement today.
He added that the police are committed to combating crimes that can threaten national security and public well-being, while also calling for public cooperation to help curb criminal activities.
The case is being investigated under Section 124 of the Penal Code.
Previously, Hussein was reported to have said that five police personnel, including two Sergeants and three Corporals, were masterminds behind cable theft activities around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor for the past year.
He said that the police personnel, who were stationed at district police headquarters and police stations around the two states, were among 16 suspects, including a woman, aged between 23 and 53, arrested for involvement in the syndicate known as "Sindiket Mulia" (Mulia Syndicate), named after its leader. — Bernama

Two men killed in heavy machinery mishaps in Kuala Krai
KUALA KRAI: Two men were killed in separate accidents involving heavy machinery here on Saturday (May 31) evening, said Kuala Krai district police chief Supt Mazlan Mamat. He also said the victim who was trapped in the machine was pronounced dead at the scene, and the accident is believed to have been caused after the victim lost control of the bulldozer. "The bodies of both victims were sent to the Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital's forensics unit for post-mortems, and the cases are being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he added. Police investigate viral Bukit Tambun Toll Plaza altercation
NIBONG TEBAL: Police have received two reports regarding an altercation involving two men at the Bukit Tambun Toll Plaza here, after a video of the incident went viral on social media today. Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) District Police chief Supt Jay January Siowou said further investigations were ongoing, and efforts to trace the suspects involved were being carried out by the Criminal Investigation Division (BSJ) of the SPS District Police Headquarters (IPD). 'Police detected a 28-second video that went viral on social media showing a misunderstanding between two road users at the RFID lane of the Bukit Tambun Toll Plaza, heading south, at about 5.15 pm today. 'The incident involved a rear-end collision which led to an argument, property damage, as well as allegations of physical assault and criminal intimidation by one of the individuals involved,' he said in a statement tonight. He said the video, which was recorded using a dashboard camera, had gone viral and sparked various reactions from the public. He added that investigations were being conducted under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt and Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. Earlier, a video clip had gone viral on social media, showing an argument between two men at the Bukit Tambun Toll Plaza, with one of them, who was only wearing a sarong and a cap, seen attempting to attack using a weapon before both were calmed down by another individual present at the scene.
