Lennon targets promotion, then Europe, with Dunfermline
Manager Neil Lennon says Dunfermline Athletic have the potential to become one of Scottish football's top six clubs and hopes one day to lead them into Europe.Lennon - who was initially appointed on a short-term basis in March - has signed a two-year deal to lead the Scottish Championship side, who were taken over by the American based entrepreneur James Bord in December last year.Lennon says his ambitions match those of the owner and but first they must gain promotion from the second tier and into the top flight for the first time in 13 years."The ultimate ambition for us all is to try and get promotion and get back into the European picture," the former Celtic and Hibernian manager told BBC Scotland."It's a long way off, but you've got to have ambition, you've got to have targets."I'm not saying we're going to do it in one year, but hopefully two. We can sort of see the signs that we're going in the right direction."
Lennon had been out of the game for almost a year and had been working as a media pundit before joining the Fife club. However during his seven-match spell as interim boss - in which time he extracted them from a relegation fight - he could feel this was a project he could work with."They made me really welcome," he added. "But that's always the case when you're an interim manager. "Now that the honeymoon's over, I'm excited about the ambition that the owner has and I'm excited about building a squad. It's something I've never had to do before. "I think this is perfect for me. There were other interests, if you want to call it that, but after the end of the season, we made up our mind that we wanted to do this."New owner Bord has huge plans for the club and despite maintaining a low profile personally was able to convince Lennon this was the best place to progress."I think we had in one week, about seven phone calls where he convinced me to come, and I liked that," Lennon explained."He made me feel that I was their man. And I feel a sense of loyalty to him now."I've got a good relationship with him. I like the way he works. I like his ideas on the game. It's new for me to learn as well. "Ultimately, it's about building a team that's going to be competitive in the league. It's going to get people through the door. That's what I want to do. And play a really strong brand of football."

I received an interesting E-mail from a reader last week, following up on a recent long-term report on the single-motor Volvo EC40 I'm currently driving. It turns out that our reader, a keen petrolhead called Derek Dunthorne, is running the twin-motor version of the Volvo EC40, and although it's in a different specification to mine and something of an upgrade, we share many similar opinions. He initially considered the smaller and newer EX30, but found he preferred the more conventional driver displays of the EC40, which is something I happen to agree with. It also turns out that we are even getting the same miles per kWh. But the really interesting information from Derek was beyond even what our long-term reports can offer. It transpires that he bought the car at six months old with 1,800 miles on the clock for a discount of 33 per cent on the new price and a three per cent PCP (to hedge against depreciation). He was impressed with Volvo's used car 30-day exchange policy, and as it transpired that was a good choice, because he actually ended up using it. Unhappy with his first car for a number of reasons, he returned it and the company refunded his money and allowed him to choose another, which he now loves. In terms of running costs, his are a fraction of mine. He uses the Octopus Energy Intelligent Go tariff that enables him to charge overnight for 7.0p per kWh. This means he has spent around £120 on electricity in 12 months and about 4,000 miles. Like many, he has never needed to use public charging, with all his journeys having been no longer than the 200 miles that the Volvo can comfortably complete. In the digital era, we often hear about information overload, but Derek's E-mail and the context of his purchase and ongoing experience really brought home the power of information for car buyers. Torino part ways with manager Vanoli
June 5 (Reuters) - Torino have parted ways with manager Paolo Vanoli, who had one year left on his contract, the Serie A club said on Thursday. Vanoli was appointed a year ago but after Torino finished last season in 11th place, well away from the relegation battle but never in the mix for European qualification, the club have decided the time is right to make a change. According to Italian media reports, former Lazio manager Marco Baroni is the likely replacement for 52-year-old Vanoli.

Martin, 39, was confirmed as the new head coach this morning on a three-year deal. Beale, part of Steven Gerrard's backroom team whilst at Gers, returned to Ibrox in 2022 but was sacked 43 games later. He was briefly linked alongside Gerrard with a potential comeback this summer, with Gerrad, Martin and Davide Ancelotti all considered by the Ibrox board. In the end the job was given to Martin and Beale is hopeful he can return his former club to success. Speaking on talkSPORT, Beale said: "He should go in there with the conviction and the bravery that he's shown to take the job. "He obviously believes in himself and as a coach he has a strong identity in terms of how he wants his teams to play. "The fans will need to be patient with the new ownership and Russell as a coach as they build a new Rangers. "Everybody wanted to see Rangers rebuild under the new ownership and get a new head coach to move in a new direction. "Everyone should get behind Russell and his staff." What next for Rangers after American takeover is confirmed? While the fans are being asked to give the new manager time to bed in, Beale did admit the expectation for the team to win will be there from the off. He said: "The expectation will be the same but obviously with the new ownership waiting in the wings, the last couple of managers haven't had stability around them. That certainly won't be the case now for Russell. "I wish them every success. "Given time, I think he can move Rangers in the right direction. "It's a time for excitement and optimism." Beale also opened up on how close he and Gerrard came to coming back to Glasgow. He said: "No, we never spoke about it to be honest. "Steven has said he wants to take a period of time with his family, he's becoming a grandfather this summer which is a wonderful thing for him.
