Fiserv Forum becomes second NBA arena to receive top sustainability certification

Yahoo4 days ago

Fiserv Forum has been recognized as one of the nation's top environmentally sustainable venues.
On May 30, the Milwaukee Bucks announced that Fiserv Forum has been awarded platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED. It is the second NBA arena to earn this distinction, joining Portland's Moda Center, and the first such venue in Wisconsin.
The award comes after the Baird Center achieved gold certification earlier this year.
The LEED award ranks buildings on a point-based system with certified being the lowest and platinum being the highest. This year, the building won based on four categories: water, waste, transportation and human experience. To win the award, Fiserv Forum tracked its performance in the four categories by using Arc, a software platform that monitors sustainability efforts, officials said at a May 30 press conference.
Fiserv Forum, which received gold designation in 2022, improved water and waste by adding touchless faucets and implementing the Orca Food Digester to help reduce food waste. In addition, the building added Bublr Bikes and a Lyft station to encourage walking, biking and ridesharing. Fiserv Forum improved human experience by installing Kaiterra sensors, which monitor air quality inside buildings and workplaces.
Dennis Williams, senior vice president and general manager of Fiserv Forum, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that sustainability has been a top priority since the arena opened its doors in 2018.
At the May 30 press conference, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson said the award is a symbol of the city's progress in sustainability.
'It's a city that's on the rise, and as we grow, we've got a responsibility to do it in a sustainable way and a way that is equitable and with a long-term impact in mind,' Johnson said during the May 30 announcement.
With the new platinum certification, Williams said he wants to continue to make the building more sustainable the potential use of waste diversion.
'For us, we wanted to be good stewards of the community and make sure we're leaving the Earth the way we found it," Williams said. "If we can better the community around us (then) there's a lot of value in that."

Bears coaching has issues with Caleb Williams demeanor

The post Bears coaching has issues with Caleb Williams demeanor appeared first on ClutchPoints. Just a few days after Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams refuted rumors he didn't want to play for them, coaches are saying something different. Advertisement According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, the new coaching staff are questioning Williams' commitment. Breer said as much during an appearance on the Bill Simmons Podcast on Friday. 'I kind of like asked around what they've been working on with Caleb and the stuff that they've been working on was really how you carry yourself as a franchise quarterback, and the command that you have to have to be a franchise quarterback,' he said. As a result, Breer said that coaches sought to get Williams back on track. 'And basically the point they were trying to make to him was 'Last year was a tough year, we understand. Your offensive coordinator gets fired, then your head coach gets fired. your offensive line wasn't very good, we get it.' It's like but if you're lying on the ground you know for an extended period of time you're not picking yourself up off the ground that's going to resonate with the rest of the team. That's the sort of thing that's going on, so it's like you need to be popping up off the ground after hits.' Advertisement As of late, Williams has been under scrutiny. A new book claimed Williams and his father tried to get him drafted by the Minnesota Vikings. Bears coach Ben Johnson is looking to get the most out of Williams and make him into the franchise quarterback. Caleb Williams needs to turn a corner. Williams is coming off a less-than-impressive rookie season with the Bears. He had to deal with a poor offensive line and being stacked routinely. Nevertheless, Williams finished the year with some impressive stats. He had 3,541 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions. His sub-par season may have deterred the confidence he showed at USC. The Bears are looking to boost that back up.

Tomatoes sold in Georgia could be deadly, FDA says

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is upgrading a recall on tomatoes issued earlier this month. Tomatoes sold under the Williams Farms Repak and the H&C Farms labels were recalled because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. The FDA has now upgraded that recall to a Class I, the federal agency's highest classification. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] The tomatoes were distributed between April 23 and April 28 and then packaged and sold to wholesalers and distributors in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, the FDA said. 'The old adage of when in doubt, throw it out, certainly would apply in this situation. Don't risk your health for a few dollars of tomatoes,' Craig Nielsen with the Georgia Department of Agriculture told Channel 2's Michael Doudna. In some rare cases, the organism can get into the bloodstream and cause arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis. 5 questions for Wisconsin racing in 2025: How much sprint car racing is too much?

Before the calendar flipped, we looked ahead to five questions to be answered – or at least addressed – during the 2025 Wisconsin racing season. One involves an incredible and ambituous stretch of sprint car racing at its highest levels with Kyle Larson's High Limit series June 3-4 and the World of Outlaws June 6-7-8. Advertisement Other questions involved the Milwaukee Mile, the ASA STARS National Tour, what the future might look like for NASCAR in the state, and the short-track juggernaut that is Ty Majeski. But here's the second: Rico Abreu, right, and Brad Sweet, seen at a World of Outlaws race at Beaver Dam Raceway in 2022, are now regulars on the High Limit Racing sprint car series. More: Key Wisconsin auto racing events for the 2025 season How will an unofficial Wisconsin sprint week play out? Not only did the World of Outlaws grace Wisconsin with eight races in 2025, it dropped three of them alongside the previously announced two-night Badger State debut for Kyle Larson's High Limit Racing. Five events in six nights are an abundance for sprint car fans. High Limit is set to race June 3 at 141 Speedway in Maribel and June 4 at Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie to start this unofficial Wisconsin sprint week. The Outlaws events fall on June 6 at the Plymouth Dirt Track, June 7 at Beaver Dam Raceway (the traditional $20,000-to-win Jim 'JB' Boyd Memorial) and June 8 at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie. Advertisement There's one conflict across the timespan, Red Cedar on the night of an Outlaws' stop in Jackson, Minnesota. Will any High Limit teams use their proximity and free weekend to cross over and give fans a bigger treat? How many Wisconsin drivers might partake? What's the chance the weather holds for all five nights? And, ultimately, will ticket buyers be able to support it all? Then the Outlaws will be back in the state for doubleheaders June 27-28 at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond and July 11-12 at Wilmot Raceway as well as a single night Aug. 19 at Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City.
