BBC News5 hours ago

Newport County are no longer under a transfer ban with world governing body Fifa. The Exiles were placed on the Fifa Registration Ban List on 30 May - with the issue understood to stem from a compensation fee that Newport believes has already been paid to another English Football League (EFL) club for an academy player. It meant they were unable to proceed with any new player transactions, although Newport stated it was "a minor administration dispute with Fifa", adding that the issue would be "settled shortly".The League Two side - now managed by David Hughes - no longer feature on the list, meaning they are able to resume their work in the transfer market. The first summer window closes at 19:00 BST on Tuesday, 10 June. The second window runs from Monday, 16 June to 19:00 BST on Monday, 1 September.

Revealed: The staggering amount Florian Wirtz will be paid a WEEK if he completes Liverpool move - with German set to earn more than Virgil van Dijk

Florian Wirtz is set to earn a staggering salary if he completes a move to Liverpool this summer. Arne Slot is looking to splash out to improve an already impressive squad after they won the Premier League and a deal for German playmaker Wirtz is edging closer. They would have to break the Premier League transfer record to secure Wirtz's signature after Bayer Leverkusen priced the 22-year-old at £120million. Liverpool have offered £100m plus an extra £13m in add ons but the German side are holding out on a fee which would overtake the £115m which Chelsea paid Brighton for Moses Caicedo. The attacking midfielder has made it clear that Liverpool are his choice and a move is reportedly 'considered a done deal'. The Reds will also spend big on Wirtz's salary, with the German set to be handed a five-year contract worth £355,000-a-week, according to Bild. The enormous salary would make him Liverpool's second highest paid player, above the £350,000-a-week Virgil van Dijk earns, but just below Mohamed Salah's weekly £400,000 earnings. Although Liverpool will have to break the bank for Wirtz, he previously admitted he is not motivated by money. 'I don't even care about how much money I have in my account or what I might earn in the future,' he told Sports Illustrated Germany this year. 'Of course, you should make sure you get a good contract. But for me, the sporting perspective is much more important than the money. 'And I think my parents would be angry if I were too fixated on money. After I moved to Leverkusen at 16, my parents managed my salary and sent me €150 (£126) a month. 'That shaped me. It was important to my parents that I didn't do anything stupid with my salary.' The German star is edging closer to an Anfield switch and has been convinced by Slot's clear plan of where he will play in Liverpool's set-up as a No 10. And on Wednesday, Wirtz appeared to nod when asked by MailSport if he was 'excited for Liverpool ' after Germany's Nations League defeat by Portugal. Wirtz would become Liverpool's third signing of the summer, and their second from Leverkusen after the champions scooped Jeremie Frimpong for £29.5m. The right wing back penned a five-year contract at Anfield last week after completing his medical last month.

‘They looked bored' – Roy Keane slams England's ‘poor attitude' as Thomas Tuchel admits ‘I didn't like' Andorra effort

ROY KEANE blasted England's "poor" attitude in their limp 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Andorra. The Republic of Ireland legend accused the Three Lions of "looking bored" in Barcelona on Saturday. 3 England made it three wins out of three for Thomas Tuchel, who hasn't conceded a goal yet, but their performance left a lot to be desired. After a dreary first half, which saw England booed off, Harry Kane found a breakthrough by tapping in Noni Madueke 's cross. That ended up as the only goal in the entire 93 minutes as Tuchel's players were accused of playing "walking football" by Keane's ITV co-panellist Karen Carney against the minnows. Keane, 53, was also critical of Kane's post-match assessment which included the captain saying, "We take the points and move on." The iconic Manchester United captain raged: "I don't like the message from your senior players is that the job was done, we'll take it, whatever. "You should be setting your standards higher than that. You should be saying they should have scored three or four more. "We defend the players, say it's the end of the season and talk about the hot conditions, and Kane looked shattered. "I worry when I see players getting bored. I felt some of the players got bored in the last half an hour and I don't like to see that. "It's when the goal went in, it was job done. It's Andorra - go and get some more goals! Tuchel has since seemingly agreed, saying that England "played with fire". Andorra v England match played in near empty stadium The German boss said: "I didn't like the attitude how we ended the game, not the whole game, it's a big difference. "I liked the attitude in the first 25 minutes, but I didn't like the last half an hour. We lacked the seriousness and urgency needed in a World Cup qualifier. "We played with fire and I didn't like the attitude at the end. I didn't like the body language, and I don't think it's what the occasion needed." Tuchel also told Three Lions fans their vile chants about Prime Minister Keir Starmer were "not acceptable." Some of the travelling supporters called Starmer a "c**t", "w**ker" and "nonce", as well as singing "no surrender" during the national anthem in a reference to the IRA. The RCDE stadium, home of Spanish side Espanyol, looked noticeably empty during the match. Sparse pockets of fans spread across the stands in Barcelona with just shy of 7,000 tickets sold to England fans for the match inside the 40,000-seat stadium. 3

Furious Thomas Tuchel blasts his players' 'attitude and body language' in scathing verdict of England's dismal 1-0 win over Andorra... before sending clear message to booing fans

Thomas Tuchel hammered his England stars for 'playing with fire' in Saturday night's lifeless World Cup qualifying win over Andorra, saying they were fortunate they did not get burned in Barcelona. Harry Kane scored the second-half winner, though the Three Lions were booed at half-time and then again at full-time. England supporters also took aim at Keir Starmer, chanting that the prime minister was a 'c***' and a 'w*****' in between expressing their frustration with the football on show. While Tuchel said he did not hear those songs towards Starmer, he admitted he could not blame the fans for jeering the performance, likening it to the favourites in a cup competition arrogantly acting as if they had no reason to worry. 'I think in the end, we played with fire, honestly,' Tuchel said. 'I felt it almost like in a cup game where the favourite does not smell the danger. I didn't feel a team that was aware it was only 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier. Step by step the energy dropped when we needed exactly the opposite. 'But we couldn't deliver and so we got away with a win. I think we still deserved the win and we've got three wins and three clean sheets. We will not stop encouraging them and make clear after we have a proper look at the match what we want from them. 'I didn't like the attitude how we ended the game. I liked the attitude how we started, the first 25 minutes, but I didn't like the last 25. I think we lacked the seriousness and the urgency that is needed in a World Cup qualifier. I think we played with fire. I didn't like the attitude in the end. I didn't like the body language. It was not what the occasion needed.' England will face Senegal in a friendly at Nottingham Forest's City Ground on Tuesday next, and Tuchel added: 'The booing is OK. First of all, the support was amazing, unbelievable, it created a fantastic atmosphere for a match like this. When I came out, straightaway I was excited. 'They were underwhelmed and not happy with our performance, especially with how we ended the first half. I don't think we can blame them for that. We cannot even blame them for how we ended the match.' On the singing against Starmer, he added: 'I did not hear anything about abusive songs or chants. If it happened, it's of course not acceptable, but I did not hear it.' England captain Harry Kane added: 'It's not one that many will remember and we had good spells but we take the three points and move on. Noni (Madueke) was a constant threat and we need more of that. We have amazing players and we need players who are going to take on players and keep doing it. He played really well. We need to be better, for sure.'
