'Doesn't deserve this': Cricket fans react after shattering Ellyse Perry development
Cricket fans are condemning the lack of support that Ellyse Perry got from her teammates after Royal Challengers Bangalore were eliminated from the Women's Premier League in India on Saturday night. Perry made 28 off just 15 balls against UP Warriorz, becoming the competition's top-scorer with 323 runs.
But a 12-run loss for RCB eliminated the powerhouse team from finals contention, meaning Perry's dream of winning the title has been shattered. Considering Perry has the most runs of anyone in the T20 comp, you'd expect her team to be winning.
But she's received little support from her teammates and was sensationally snubbed in a controversial finish to another loss against the Warriorz last month. The match on February 24 went to a super-over, and despite making 90 not out off just 56 balls, Perry wasn't picked by her team for the bat-off.
They instead sent out Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh, who only managed four runs off their six balls to consign RCB to a crushing defeat. Saturday night's loss sent them to a 2-5 record on the season, meaning they're currently in last place and can't make the semis.
Perry has made scores of 90 not out, 81 and 60 not out over the last month, but hasn't been able to lift her team. Cricket fans have been highly critical of her RCB teammates, saying they "don't deserve" the Aussie star on their team.

RCB are the franchise with the most disrespect to all their players. They didn't deserve Ab D and Gayle , they don't deserve Kohli. The RCB women for sure don't deserve Ellyse Perry. #rcb

Ellyse Perry is the Virat Kohli of RCB-W. They both deserve 100X better teams coz they don't deserve to rot in that clown franchise.

On Saturday night, George Voll became the latest Aussie to fall agonisingly close to becoming the first player in WPL history to make a century. Voll was left stranded on 99 not out for UP Warriorz, becoming the fourth Aussie in 12 days to end up in the 90s.
Voll only recently flew over from Brisbane, making a jet-lagged, three-ball duck on Monday, before smacking a dazzling half-century on Thursday and then winning player-of-the-match on Saturday with an excellent all-round display. She smashed 17 fours and a six off 56 deliveries to equal the record for the competition's highest individual score - held by New Zealander Sophie Devine.
No amount of praise is enough for Georgia Voll, she scored 99 runs on 56 balls, missed a century by one run. Sometimes luck doesn't favour you even after hard work.It will be remembered pic.twitter.com/20Bb89229Y

The Queenslander then took two key catches and bowled the final over, whipping off the bails after just three balls to complete a last-wicket run-out and ensure RCB's chase ended on 213. Asked if she felt she had missed out on a golden chance of a historic ton, she admitted: "I think I did."
On 98 and facing the spin of England's Charlie Dean for the final ball, Voll mused afterwards: "I should have known she would bowl that [yorker]." She only managed to shovel it to mid-on, with partner Deepti Sharma being run-out while thinking about coming back for an impossible second run.
There have now been eight scores in the 90s in the WPL - six from Australians - but none have reached triple figures. Four have occurred in the last fortnight - Voll, Beth Mooney (96 not out), Meg Lanning (92) and Perry's 90 not out.

Aussie teen eclipses Leisel Jones feat as poolside interview leaves fans stunned
Teen sensation Sienna Toohey has broken down pool side after collecting her ticket to the World Swimming Championships in Singapore having become the youngest Australian to break the 1:07 mark in the 100m breaststroke. Toohey has long been touted as a future swimming star for the Australian Dolphins having recently broken Liesel Jones' longstanding age group record in the 100m breaststroke. And the 16-year-old has delivered in front of her swimming rivals at the Australian world championships trials this week having eclipsed Ella Ramsay to win the 100m breaststroke on Tuesday night. Toohey edged out in front of Olympic silver medallist Ramsay to finish with 1:06.55 and book her ticket to Singapore later this year. She finished in front if Ramsay, 1:06.86, and Sienna Harben, 1:07.02, in a close swim. And immediately after the race, Toohey joined Aussie swimming icon Cate Campbell poolside for a chat. And the 16-year-old was overcome with emotions have realised she had achieved a lifelong dream. "I am just so excited because I have worked so hard," Toohey said as she broke down in tears. "I was so nervous, I am just so happy I have done them proud. "I have been training in Canberra for the last six weeks, because my club has taken a break, so it has been very hard. So coming out here I just knew I wanted to get it because I have made a lot of sacrifices and so has my family. So it's a lot. I know my brothers would miss me so much. They've just given up so much for me to be able to do this." Ramsay was a little of her PB and was frustrated with her race knowing she hadn't undertaken too much sprint training heading into the trials. Regardless, Australia has a new face on the swimming scene with Toohey slowly working her way up the ranks. In April, Toohey broke Jones' 23-old record of 1:07.31 to become the fastest 16-year-old. However, her latest achievement has seen her eclipse all other Australians and record the 9th fastest time ever for a junior. Not even the legendary Jones achieved this feat in the juniors. Although she does have some way to go to break Jones' PB of 1:05.09 in the 100m breaststroke, which she achieved in 2005. "All of these people being my idols, now I get to be on the team with them," Toohey said after her swim. "These are people that I was watching two years ago, saying I want to be like them." Having been through a similar career trajectory as the girl from Albury, McKeown claimed Toohey needs to try and enjoy as much of her development as possible as she joins the Australian Dolphins. "Just to enjoy yourself," McKeown said when offering advice to Toohey. "The more you be serious, the more you're harsh on yourself, you keep just digging yourself in a bit of a hole and it's quite hard to get out of." Only this week, McKeown offered an insight into her own struggles after the Paris Olympics. The Aussie sensation won four individual gold medals in Paris, but admitted the sudden change after an Olympics took a toll on her mental health as she took a little time away from the sport.

Sam Konstas and Scott Boland cop brutal snub despite Ricky Ponting's concerns
Australian cricket captain Pat Cummins has confirmed Sam Konstas and Scott Boland have both been excluded from the starting XI for the World Test Championship final with Marnus Labuschagne and Josh Hazlewood getting the nod. One of the biggest talking points for the Aussies leading up to the final against South Africa at Lord's was who would open the batting alongside Usman Khawaja. While Khawaja had nailed down his position, in what is likely his last WTC final, the selectors were trying to find a place for either Konstas or Labuschagne in the side. Cameron Green's return to cricket after injury, and subsequently a return to form, prompted the selectors to immediately catapult him back into the side at No.3. The selectors see him as the future of the Australian batting line-up and his form in the second division of County cricket prompted an immediate recall. With Steve Smith also confirmed at No.4, this meant either Labuschagne or Konstas was set to miss out. Labuschagne has been holding onto his position in the team by a thread in recent months with his form at all levels of cricket a major concern. Fans have also been calling for a change with the Queenslander's form not good enough across the last few years. Although Cummins claimed the selectors have rewarded Labuschagne for helping them get to where they are in the final having promoted him up the order to open with Khawaja. "Cam Green, the last few weeks he's had, coming back in great form, we thought he deserved a spot somewhere in the batting line-up,"Cummins said at Lord's on Tuesday. "We thought three probably suits him best. With Marnus moving, we thought it's one spot up, it's not too different to batting three. He's done well here in England in the past. It's a final, so selectors pick the best 11 for this week." Konstas captured the Aussie publics attention during the summer when he took it to Jasprit Bumrah at the MCG and SCG to help Australia win a tight series. However, his cavalier style of batting divided fans and eventually the selectors. Konstas was dropped from the starting XI for the Sri Lanka cricket tour and was eventually sent home to find form in Sheffield Shield. While he based a number of solid scores, Konstas will once again be on the periphery during the WTC final. While Konstas may have lost his position, Labuschagne has done very little to keep his. Australia's Test No.3 has faced growing calls to be axed for the red-ball test final against South Africa at Lord's with his form dropping off a cliff. Labuschagne only averaged 25.36 with the bat across the summer, after disappointing Test series against India and Sri Lanka. That came after an equally underwhelming previous year for Labuschagne, where he averaged just 27.08 across the summer of 2023/24. And the 30-year-old only managed scores of 23, 0 and 61 in his three Sheffield Shield innings for Queensland after those Test series. One of the biggest omissions from the starting XI was that of Boland. The Aussie quick is a crowd favourite and was player-of-the-match when Australia regained the Border-Gavaskar trophy at the SCG in January against India. However, with Hazlewood returning to form in the IPL, having helped RBC win the title, Boland has missed out on selection once again. 'There are some guys where you genuinely say, you know, 'You've done nothing wrong. Don't change a thing.' And that is Scotty. He is just really unfortunate to miss out,' Cummins said. "Joshy Hazlewood comes back in. We know how good he is. The message to Scotty is there's a lot of Test cricket coming up in the next couple of years, and just because you're mid-30s, doesn't mean you know you're missing this Test, and that's one Test off your career. "By having a squad of fast bowlers, hopefully we can extend all our careers for an extra couple of years. It's really unfortunate Scotty misses this but the message to him is, 'Don't feel like you're running out of time'." Only last month, Aussie cricket legend Ricky Ponting felt the selectors would lean this way when the move Labuschagne up the order. Although the legendary batter was not 100 per cent convinced Labuschagne should open after his recent dip in form. "I actually think that that will go with Labuschagne," Ponting said on the ICC Review podcast. "Looking back to the last World Test Championship Final there was some talk about David Warner and whether he should hold his spot going into that. "And there was a bit of talk around the team about wanting to get through that period or that phase or if you like, with the same group of players and give them the chance to, to be able to play off in that one-off final. Labuschagne has been through this cycle with the team, albeit batting at No.3 and I think they will want to get through the cycle with the same players so I think Labuschagne will get the nod. Whether I agree with it or not, it's a different will be revealed in the next couple of weeks." AUSTRALIA: Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Beau Webster, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins (capt), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood. SOUTH AFRICA: Aiden Markram, Ryan Rickelton, Wiaan Mulder, Temba Bavuma (capt), Tristan Stubbs, David Bedingham, Kyle Verreynne, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Lungi Ngidi.

Aussie tennis star Daria Kasatkina announces engagement to figure skating girlfriend
It's Pride Month, and love is in the air! Aussie tennis star Daria Kasatkina just got engaged to her longtime girlfriend, former Olympic figure skater Natalia Zabiiako. The two athletes started dating three years ago and announced their engagement on June 7 via an adorable Instagram post showing off Zabiiako's diamond ring. Advertisement 'And just like that,' the caption reads. The pair's fellow athlete friends took to the comments to send them well-wishes on their upcoming nuptials. 'Ahhh congrats,' wrote British tennis player Katie Boulter. 'I will be at the wedding regardless if you want it or not,' commented Russian-Australian tennis star Arina Rodionova, who frequently stars in the couple's YouTube channel 'What the Vlog' which chronicles life on a tennis tour. And former American tennis champ Jennifer Brady said, 'Congrats Dasha and Natalia!!!" The star athlete couple's engagement comes on the heals of Kasatkina being granted a permanent residency by the Australian government after leaving Russia, a country that she has vocally criticized for it's persecution of the LGBTQ+ community. In 2023, the Russian Supreme Court ruled that "the international LGBT movement is an extremist organization' and in 2024 the first convictions in connection with the law were handed down after a man posted a Pride flag online and a woman wore rainbow frog earrings.
