Easy Universal Credit trick that gets you half price travel and thousands are missing out
YOU might not be aware that there is a simple Universal Credit trick that can get you half price travel.
If you receive Universal Credit, you may be able to get a huge 50% off your bus and train fares just by applying for a discount card.

The discount card can be picked up from your local JobCentre Plus branch

The JobCentre Plus Travel Discount Card is aimed at helping those looking for work travel to job interviews at a lower cost.
It's free to apply for and is valid for up to three months.
The card is accepted by most train and bus operators, including Transport for London and Stagecoach.
Of course, you will need to be looking for work to get the card.
To be eligible for the card you must:
Be claiming Universal Credit or Jobseeker's Allowance
Be between 18 and 24 years' old and have been unemployed for 13 to 39 weeks.
Be aged 25 and over and unemployed for 13 to 52 weeks.
To apply, you'll need to go to a JobCentre Plus office.
You can find your nearest one here.
It's worth noting that even if you meet the criteria there is no guarantee you will receive a card as it's up to work coaches to decide.
You should keep your travel card on you while you're travelling as you will need to show it to bus drivers or ticket operators to get the discount.

If you can't get a card, you may still be able to get discounts on travel.
For example, some operators like Greater Anglia offer free tickets for people travelling to job interviews.
The scheme is aimed at people who have been unemployed for at least six months or have recently left education, and it entitles them to six free fares.
Plus, you may be eligible for help with your fares in the first few months of commuting to your new job.

Am I entitled to Universal Credit?
According to the GOV website, if you're on a low income or need help with your living costs, then you could be entitled to Universal Credit.
To claim, you must live in the UK, be aged 18 or over (with some exceptions if you're 15 to 17), be under State Pension age, and have £16,000 or less in money, savings and investments.
Other circumstances are if you are out of work, or unable to work, for example because of a health condition.
Other help is available for those on Universal Credit and searching for work through the Restart Scheme.
Your JobCentre work coach can help you make a claim through the scheme, which helps to cover costs including childcare and transport.
The coach can also provide support with with skills training, job applications and interview preparation among other things.
Another useful scheme is the Government's Flexible Support Fund, a pot of money which is managed by local job centres and distributed at their discretion.
It can be used to cover costs like training for a job, travel to interviews, childcare, tools for work and clothing and uniforms.

Some residents told the Telegraph that the tourism has made them a small fortune and helped to improve local amenities. Others have slammed the tourists, demanding their quant village be freed of "brash American accents." Residents of Bampton have told horror stories of their encounters with tourists. Locals have been subjected to selfie-sticks appearing at bedroom windows, tourists wandering into their back gardens and buses blocking up narrow streets. Guided tours of the village are offered to fans of the hit show with some charging as much as £500. Busloads of fans are taken around the small village to visit filming locations made famous by the British drama series. Local shop owners have claimed at one point they were making £1,000 a day from the tourists. The thousands of pounds raised from visiting TV fans has been used to fund renovation works to buildings. Local services have also been improved using the massive wealth brought into the community. Despite all this locals still hit out saying they've had enough of nosey tourists peering in their windows and obstructing their driveways. One resident told The Telegraph: "My friend overheard a tour guide say that Bampton was nothing before Downton Abbey. "Let me tell you – Bampton was a beautiful, expensive place to live long beforehand." 'I live on the main square and they often stand in my driveway. They just go everywhere.' Locations including St Mary's Church and the Manor House, home to Mrs Crawley in the show, can be found in the small village. The main set for the historical drama, Highclere Castle, is forty miles away. The tiny village has a population of just 2,500 and plays host to two coffee shops, a butcher, a deli, a charity shop, an art gallery, antique store and garden centre. Residents claim that visitors spend most of their time and money in a few select locations, bringing no benefit to the rest of the town. A resident told The Telegraph: "They contribute to the library, but apart from that they don't have enough time. 'We are better off with individual travellers, with families in cars – not the buses. There's so much more to Bampton than Downton Abbey.' The Community Hub receives shedloads of support but according to locals the other shops and businesses are left to fend for themselves.

Aaron Turner, 34, was holidaying in Spain with fiancé Shauna Wall, 32, and their four-year-old daughter Halle when he spotted the bizarre scenes. The family, from County Meath, Ireland, said sunseekers would wait at one of the three busy pool entrances each day, determined to get the best spots. Aaron claimed he saw tourists starting to queue from 9am - despite the pool opening at 10am. Unbelievable footage showed the racing Brits sprint for their lives as they swarmed the pool area to secure the sunniest seats. Dozens are seen waiting by the entrances, one of which is blocked by just one lone lifeguard. As he lets them in when the clock strikes 10am - scores of swimmers descend on the sunbeds in a mad panic. Content creator Aaron said: "The queues would get pretty long. "Once the barriers opened, all the rules went - people were jumping the queue, and some were properly running." Aaron quipped that he had to don running shoes in order to beat the crowds and secure his seat. A Manchester holidaymaker was left absolutely fuming after vigilantes swiped towels from her sun lounger that she had reserved due to her disability. Wheelchair user Elaine Simpson, 77, had been given permission from staff to book out the spot, before Brit sunbathers intervened. She was staying at the Aquasol Aparthotel near Magaluf with her family to mark her 51st wedding anniversary. Joined by her husband and teenage grandkids for the trip, they were set for a much-needed week's break in the sun. But when they arrived, she was put into a hotel room that was five floors up and as far from the pool as they could have been. Because she suffers from chronic arthritis and is in a wheelchair, this made it a challenge to claim a hotel sunbed at opening time. She told the Sun: "We could never have made it down for 9am to get a sunbed. "So we went out to the beach and paid for sunbeds for the whole week." Another Brit tourist defended the controversial practice of putting towels on sunbeds amid the blazing row. Rachel McGuigan and her husband David enjoyed a plush vacation in Turkey, but divided opinion after they put their towels on their poolside beds for half an hour while they went for their morning meal.
