Wendy's starts beef with Katy Perry after Blue Origin space flight: ‘Can we send her back'
Not everyone was a fan of yesterday's historic — and controversial — space flight.
On April 14, Blue Origin's all-female flight crew went to space as part of the New Shepard flight. The team consisted of film producer Kerianne Flynn, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, journalists Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez (who is also Jeff Bezos' fiancée) and singer Katy Perry.
Friends and family of members of the crew showed up to celebrate the flight, including Sánchez pals Kris Jenner and Khloe Kardashian, King's bestie Oprah and Perry's daughter Daisy.
However, others back on the ground were not feeling celebratory about the trip: Wendy's — yes, the fast-food chain — took aim directly at Perry, and not for refusing to sing her hit song 'ET' while she was up there.
'Katy Perry has returned from space,' wrote Pop Crave on X.
'Can we send her back,' Wendy's replied.
Wendy's didn't stop at that jab either, writing several acerbic responses to posts about the flight, which all took aim at the 'Teenage Dream' singer:
' I kissed the ground and i liked it '
' I can dissociate for a lot longer than 11 minutes '
' She realized there's no biggie bags on the moon '
' I'm a woman send me to space '
' When we said women in stem this isn't what we meant '
' Now she knows what it's like to be a plastic bag floating in the wind '
Reactions to the chain's unapologetic dragging of the 13-time Grammy nominee ranged from shock and disgust to enthusiastic support.
'big L,' wrote one X user. 'wendy's should be ashamed.'
'Whoever tweeted this should be FIRED,' added another.
'One of the best comments of all time. #1 Troll award 🥇,' posted someone else.
'Hahaha, I have to go buy some Wendy's,' wrote one more. 'This post alone has convinced me.'
When reached for comment, Wendy's only had this to say: 'We always bring a little spice to our socials, but Wendy's has a ton of respect for Katy Perry and her out-of-this-world-talent.'
Hours after the burger chain went off on its Whopper of a tweetstorm, fellow pop star Kesha seemingly alluded to the convo on X by posting a photo of herself drinking from a Wendy's cup.
Could it have to do with the Dr. Luke drama? Reps for Kesha did not immediately respond to TODAY.com's request for comment.
Everyday people, as well as celebrities like Olivia Wilde and Emily Ratajkowski, have been questioning the sustainability of the New Shepard flight and its impact on the planet.
On April 3, while co-hosting "TODAY with Jenna & Friends," actor Olivia Munn said, 'There are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.'
'What's the point?' she continued. 'Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it's a bit gluttonous. ... Space exploration was to further our knowledge and to help mankind. What are they going to do up there that has made it better for us down here?'
The crew took no time to respond to naysayers after they landed.
'I wish those who were criticizing the mission could read the messages in my inbox,' Bowe said during a press conference. 'I am seeing boys and girls around the world say, 'I'm inspired, and I see myself in this crew.''

Twins who played Ross and Rachel's baby daughter on Friends dish behind-the-scenes secrets
They had their first taste of Hollywood at only six months old - but over 22 years later Alexandra and Athena Conley have taken off in a different direction. The twin sisters, 23, were both cast to play Emma Geller-Greene in the ninth season of Friends, appearing in six episodes of the famous sitcom. The duo went viral last month after Alexandra posted a TikTok video, revealing their secret sitcom past as Ross Geller and Rachel Greene's daughter. The clip, which has now been viewed over 2.2 million times, began with a recent picture of Alexandra striking a pose, with overlaid text that read: 'Told him I was on TV as a baby.' The next slide was a picture of one of the girls in a coat with a pink bow in her hair, being held by David Schwimmer, with Jennifer Aniston standing nearby. A selfie followed which read, 'Oh so you did like Gerber commercials?' The post then ended with the photo of them from Friends which has the hashtag, '#holyairball.' While the girls, who grew up in Long Beach, California, were having fun looking back at their showbiz days, they admitted their video received 'a lot of mixed reviews.' 'Well, a lot of people thought that we weren't the actual twins, because we were only on it for a little bit,' Alexandra told The girls, who made their debut in the episode The One Where Rachel Goes Back To Work, explained they only appeared in a handful of episodes before their time on screen was cut short. 'Alexandra actually got us kicked off,' Athena exclaimed. 'We got it, and then she cried too much, and they couldn't use me the whole time because of child labor laws.' The girls were replaced by Noelle and Cali Sheldon who took over playing Emma from 2002 to 2003 - whom the girls are now quasi friends with. 'We follow each other on Instagram,' Alexandra quipped. 'We've followed each other for a really long time since you were younger.' Despite a short time on set, they still walked away from their experience with some good stories - or at least that's what their mom has told them. 'She just said that all the cast members were super friendly, and all of the guys were hilarious like they'd be cracking jokes the whole time,' Athena recalled. 'She's like, "Oh, yeah, they would just say lines on the spot, and half of it would get put in the show" which that was something to me where I was like, wow, that's awesome,' she continued, adding the cast was all 'super sweet and welcoming.' They also revealed their on-screen mom - Jennifer Anniston - had a hand in selecting them for the role. '[Our mom said] they had actually shown photos of us to Jennifer Aniston — that's how she ended up choosing us,' Alexandra shared. While they haven't met anyone from the cast yet as adults, they have been back to the set to see where it all began. 'We did do a Friends tour at Warner Brothers a while ago. We were hoping there'd be a cast member there, but it was really cool,' Athena explained. 'We got to see the set and everything, but we have not gotten to meet anybody.' Despite their early start in the TV show, neither one of the girls have pursued a career in showbiz. Alexandra now works as a marketing and social media coordinator for a beauty company. Athena became a cheerleader for the Denver Broncos last year and also works as an investment control reconciler for a financial services company. While neither one of the Conleys pursued a career in the limelight after their stint as baby actresses, they loved what the show has given them and are huge fans. 'I have been a fan ever since I watched it for the first time and, to this day, it is still my all time favorite show,' Athena gushed, with Alexandra agreeing. She added: 'Each character brings something so unique and hilarious to the group — I see a bit of myself in all of them, which is what makes this show so special. No matter how many times I've rewatched the series, it still makes me laugh like it's my first time seeing it. It always lifts my mood and will forever be my favorite show.'

Orlando Bloom cuts a somber figure amid claims of 'tension' in Katy Perry relationship
Orlando Bloom flashed a somber expression at the premiere of his new film Deep Cover - amid claims he is experiencing 'tension' in his relationship with fiancee Katy Perry. While for the most part he appeared in high spirits, the Hollywood hunk, 48, failed to crack a smile at times as he attended the Tribeca Festival event with his adorable dog Biggie Smalls. Orlando gave his dog the VIP experience and even walked the red carpet with his furry friend in his arms, where he flashed silly expressions at the pooch. Not only did Biggie Smalls command attention at the premiere, but he also accompanied his owner for an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Bloom revealed he got Biggie Smalls 10 months ago and referred to the pooch as his 'emotional support animal.' 'So my manager calls me and says, "You know you're trending." And I'm like, "Well that's great, I'm trending!" "Well not exactly you, it's the dog,"' he said. 'He looks fake!' Jimmy remarked, which Bloom agreed with. 'I was told I need a whisper of a dog. I travel so much, but I do love dogs... He's a real emotional support animal, 'cause I'm very emotional right now, sitting here,' he joked. The Lord Of The Rings star also spoke about his recent skydiving adventures for his Peacock show, Orlando Bloom: To The Edge. The actor even soared through the skies in a 'wing suit'. 'Now that is scary,' he said. 'It's like a squirrel suit,' he said of the contraption. 'It's the fastest you can be propelled as a human on the planet without an engine or something. And you literally feel like you're flying,' he said. 'The last stunt of the show was I flew five miles over the ocean, landing on Pismo Beach,' he said. 'So my manager calls me and says, "You know you're trending." And I'm like, "Well that's great, I'm trending!" "Well not exactly you, it's the dog,"' he said on Fallon's show Orlando said he felt as though he was 'flying' - but added it was also 'terrifying.' 'Like a superhero,' he added. 'If you even move your foot slightly, you could go into a tumble, and then the fear is you tumble, and then you've got to pull a chute, and then you're upside down, and then you've got to pull a chute again. It can go south very fast.' Meanwhile, Bloom's outing comes amid a new report alleging that his fiancee Katy's poorly performing album has caused 'tension' in their relationship. The singer's, 40, seventh studio album, 143, was released in September 2024, and received a largely negative response from fans as well as critics, who claimed the record sounds 'generated through AI.' The actor was pictured at the premiere of his film Deep Cover during the Tribeca Festival on Tuesday 'Katy was deeply frustrated following the reception of her new album. It made her very stressed,' a source told People on Monday. 'Orlando was understanding, but it did cause some tension,' the insider added of the Lord of The Rings star, 48, who shares daughter Daisy Dove, four, with the singer. Another source shared, 'She was also disappointed in some of the tour reviews. It's put stress on their relationship.' Perry is currently on her Lifetimes world tour. has reached out to representatives for Perry and Bloom for comment. Perry and Bloom first met in January 2016. They had a brief breakup in 2017, but later reconciled by March 2018. The pair got engaged on Valentine's Day in 2019 and welcomed their daughter in August 2020. Bloom also has a 13-year-old son named Flynn with his ex-wife, Miranda Kerr, 42.
