Paquetá betting rules case is taking physical and mental toll, reveals West Ham's Potter
Graham Potter has revealed the investigation into whether Lucas Paquetá breached betting rules is taking its toll both mentally and physically on the West Ham player.
The Football Association's inquiry into allegations Paquetá deliberately got himself booked in four matches, which he denies but which could leads to his being banned for life if found guilty, has lasted more than two years.
The Brazil midfielder was in tears after being booked against Tottenham two weeks ago, after which Potter explained he was 'frustrated' and had 'given everything and in difficult circumstances'. But later that evening Paquetá's wife, Maria Fournier, detailed the anguish the case is causing, writing on Instagram: 'My husband has a posture and a strength that I admire and impresses me. We have been living this nightmare for two years.'
Paquetá was left on the bench for last weekend's 2-0 win at Manchester United, with Potter at the time explaining that he had a cold. But as he prepared for Sunday's visit of Nottingham Forest, Potter said: 'It was both. The week he had was a particularly tough week for him personally, which I think everyone can understand. And then as a result of that he was feeling under the weather on the day before the game and the day of the game.
'So I didn't want to risk him and make it worse for him. But he's trained really well, he wants to be part of the team and we'll see how to use him for the weekend.
'There's a bit going round to be fair – I've had a bit of a sore throat as well. But you know what it's like; sometimes stress, pressure, can manifest itself in a different way.'
Potter is desperate for the case to be resolved before the start of next season. 'For everybody concerned, yes,' he said. 'It's not my thing to talk about, but the sooner the better for everyone.
'In fairness to Lucas I think he's handled it brilliantly. I don't know if I said it's taken its toll on him. That week was a big week for him, but he has to go through what he has to go through.
'But generally he's come in and conducted himself in a really good way. He's just ready to help the team. I think coming into work is a distraction for him, it takes his mind off things. He's handled it really well. For me I'm just there to support him, the same with his teammates.'

Diesel clothing advert banned for objectifying Katie Price
An ad for clothing brand Diesel featuring the model Katie Price was irresponsible and likely to cause serious offence by objectifying and sexualising women, a watchdog has ruled. The ad, which appeared on the Guardian news website on March 26th, included an image of Price wearing a bikini and holding a handbag in front of her chest. Advertisement The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received 13 complaints that the ad objectified and sexualised women and featured a model who appeared to be unhealthily thin. The banned Diesel ad featuring Katie Price (ASA/PA) Diesel said the ad was part of a brand campaign called 'The Houseguests', which was designed to challenge stereotypes and support diversity and inclusion in the fashion industry by reflecting a wide range of body types. It believed the ad was compliant with the advertising rules but said it removed the ad from the Guardian website. The brand said Price was 46 years old and had a body type that was not usually included in high fashion campaigns, explaining that the average age for editorial models was between 16 and 23. Advertisement Diesel believed the image was a 'celebration of Ms Price's sexuality and empowerment and was not objectifying, degrading or sexualising', and 'showed Ms Price clearly in control in an active and dynamic pose where she proudly showed off her body and the handbag'. Diesel added that Price was 'well-known for her exaggerated appearance and larger-than-life personality and her large lips and breasts formed part of her curated public image', and this 'exaggerated, eccentric and altered appearance' formed part of the creativity of the campaign. Finally, Diesel said although Price was slender, she had excellent muscle tone and was not unhealthily underweight. The Guardian said it received a complaint directly about the ad on April 4th and blocked it from appearing again because it did not consider it complied with their policies. Advertisement Partly upholding the complaints, the ASA said the bikini only partially covered Price's breasts, and it considered the positioning of the handbag, in front of her stomach with the handle framing her chest, drew viewers' attention to, and emphasised, that part of her body. The ASA said: 'While we acknowledged that Ms Price was shown in a confident and self-assured pose and in control, we considered that because of the positioning of the handbag, which had the effect of emphasising and drawing attention to her breasts, the ad sexualised her in a way that objectified her. 'We therefore considered the ad was likely to cause serious offence, was irresponsible and breached the Code.' The ASA did not uphold complaints about Price appearing to be unhealthily thin, and concluded that the ad was not irresponsible on that basis. Advertisement The watchdog ruled that the ad must not appear again, adding: 'We told Diesel to ensure their future ads were socially responsible and did not cause serious or widespread offence.' Diesel said: 'Diesel's latest Houseguests campaign continues its tradition of challenging norms and embracing individuality. A key image features model Katie Price, 46, showcasing a body type rarely seen in high fashion, proving that women of all shapes and ages deserve representation. The photo celebrates confidence and empowerment without objectification. Boy, 15, stabbed at school in front of horrified pupils as six teens, 13 and 14, arrested
SIX teenagers have been arrested after a stabbing at a school. A 15-year-old boy was stabbed in the grounds of Moseley School on Wake Green Road in Birmingham just before 2pm yesterday. He was taken to hospital with two slash injuries to his back, which are not believed to be life-threatening. Six boys, aged 13 and 14, have been arrested on suspicion of wounding and remain in custody this morning. West Midland Police said they are supporting the victim's family. The force are also working closely with the school while we examine CCTV and speak to witnesses. Extra patrols will be taking place around the area today to offer reassurance, police added. Det Sgt Shereen Ballintine, from Birmingham CID, said: 'This was an appalling attack which has left a teenage boy with significant injuries, and other pupils at the school have been left really distressed by what has happened. "We are working very closely with the school to build a clear as picture as possible of what happened and why, but it's really important we hear from anyone with information or footage of what happened."
