Chance of Llandovery RFC drawing Quins in semi-final
Long odds perhaps but an in-form Quins could be the surprise packet at the quarter-final stages of the first ever running of the SRC competition.
The Carmarthen side's outstanding 15-12 win over RGC at Colwyn Bay last Saturday at the so called 'wild card' stage , pitting eighth-placed RGC against ninth-placed Carmarthen Quins, now gives the West Walians a place in the quarter finals on May 3.
They face a difficult trip to Ebbw Vale in the realisation that a win at Eugene Cross Park would secure a place in the semi finals.
If they were indeed to get to the last four, they would proceed to play the winners of this Saturday's S4C televised Llandovery-Pontypool quarter final.
A Llandovery victory over Pooler on May 3 would guarantee a semi final spot for the Drovers against Ebbw Vale or Carmarthen Quins on May 10.
If it were to be an all West Walian semi final, the venue would be at Church Bank by dint of Llandovery having finished the higher of the two sides at the end of the regular season.
Were Ebbw Vale to beat the Quins and Llandovery beat Pontypool in the quarter finals, then the Steelmen would have home advantage over the Drovers through the same reasoning.
So what might happen in the quarter finals this Saturday?
Ebbw Vale are undefeated at home so the challenge for the Quins is huge but they will take confidence from an excellent win at RGC, through tries from wing Louis Rees, fly half Ifan Davies and replacement prop James Newnian.
If skipper and lock Lee Taylor can galvanise his pack to stand up to the aggressive power play of the Ebbw eight and get parity of possession, then a shock could be on the cards.
At Church Bank, the Drovers will have to be at their best against in-form Pooler who recently beat top of the league Cardiff 47-27.
Shorn of their top players, Llandovery slipped up 34-33 at Bridgend in their last game of the regular season but, even with the return of the likes of Lee Rees, Adam Warren and Joe Powell, they will have it all to do.
All West Wales rugby men will be keeping their fingers crossed that Llandovery and Carmarthen Quins can record a famous double over Gwent opponents, to set up a prospectively momentous Church Bank clash on May 10.
Wild card results: Bridgend 33 - 30 Swansea; RGC 12 - 15 Carmarthen Quins.
Quarter finals - May 3
Cardiff v Bridgend; Llandovery v Pontypool; Ebbw Vale v Carmarthen Quins; Newport v Aberavon
All kick off at 2.30pm except the televised Llandovery v Pontypool (5.15pm).
Semi finals - May 10
Cardiff or Bridgend v Newport or Aberavon; Ebbw Vale or Carmarthen Quins v Llandovery or Pontypool.
Final – May 17
Sides with highest regular season placing have home advantage at the semi-final and final stage.

Wales U20s play for World places in England warm-up
Wales Under-20s head coach Richard Whiffin says places in his World Championship squad will be up for grabs when they take on England in a warm-up game on Friday, 6 Minto captains the side which features a number of changes from the team which beat England in the final game of the Under-20 Six Nations. Number eight Minto forms a new-look back row which includes Dragons team-mate Ryan Jones and Gloucester flanker Caio James. Former skipper Harry Beddall is among the replacements. Friday's game at Pontypool Park is the first of two warm-ups with the other a week later at Cardiff Arms Park against World Championships take place in Italy, with Wales drawn against Argentina in the opening match on 29 June. "We've had guys in camp for three weeks working super hard and they deserve an opportunity," said Wales Under-20s head coach Richard Whiffin."We said to the group at the start of the campaign we were going to use it as a selection game in terms of whittling the squad down from 45 down to 30 so there will be guys playing on Friday night putting their hands up for the plane ticket to Italy."So pressure goes onto those guys but ultimately if they can perform on Friday in a big game against England then it sets them up well for the World Cup."Speaking of handing Minto the captaincy, Whiffin added: "He is a local Pontypool guy plus we wanted to see a slightly different back row. "From the performances he put in during the Six Nations, he has certainly put his hand up for the captaincy role."

Sam Scarfe signs new Dragons deal after Pontypool exploits
The 21-year-old enjoyed a strong campaign in Super Rygbi Cymru with Pontypool, making 14 appearances for the play-off quarter-finalists. Scarfe, who made his Dragons debut in his old position of flanker at Glasgow in February 2024 because of an injury crisis, enjoyed a solitary outing for Filo Tiatia's side against Montpellier in the Challenge Cup clash in Newport. The combative forward has agreed fresh terms and is now looking to push Elliot Dee, Brodie Coghlan, James Benjamin and Oli Burrows for action next season. Scarfe said: 'I've played lots of minutes and learnt a lot from Pooler this year with the help of top players and coaches, which has been great for me. 'Dragons is my home club and I want to represent the badge as much as possible. The club is in a good place so it would be great to get the minutes down at Rodney Parade. 'Filo (Tiatia) has helped me a lot this year in understanding the game in a different way and seeing the opportunities available. I've also enjoyed picking the brains of our experienced senior boys as I continue to develop.' Sam Scarfe crashing over for Pontypool (Image: NCR Photography) Scarfe, who came through at Penallta, provides the Dragons with a different option at the heart of the front row thanks to his back-row background. 'Sam converted to hooker from seven about four or five four years ago,' said forwards Coach Sam Hobbs. 'He was a very good seven and his body type is suited to being a modern-day physical hooker. 'With Pontypool, he played a huge amount of rugby in the Championship, which was a tough education, but now in the SRC he's become a dominant force there and an outstanding prospect winning numerous player-of-the-match awards. 'I'm excited and believe next year will be a big season for Sam. His contact area is his superstrength and he's developed his ball carrying while his set-piece is going really well.' Head coach Tiatia added: 'We've been pleased with Sam's progress and the minutes he has also been able to secure for Pontypool in the SRC. 'He's a hard-working young man who wants to keep improving, so we look forward to his continued development in our senior environment.' Scarfe is one of the Dragons' many promising prospects who will back up the experienced figures in the squad next season. Centre Joe Westwood, flanker/lock Ryan Woodman and hooker Brodie Coghlan grew in influence last season, while centre Harri Ackerman would have were it not for injury. Full-back Huw Anderson, scrum-halves Che Hope and Morgan Lloyd, lock Barny Langton-Cryer and tighthead Luke Yendle got more opportunities while there were debuts for wing Harry Rees-Weldon, fly-half Harri Ford, props Dylan Kelleher-Griffiths and Owain James, lock Nick Thomas and back row forward Evan Minto. The aim will be to balance more Dragons chances with learning in the middle for Newport, Ebbw Vale and Pontypool in SRC.

Louis Rees-Zammit's new influencer girlfriend has a famous ex and sporting past
Louis Rees-Zammit's new influencer girlfriend has a famous ex and sporting past The couple have been sharing pictures since February, with a new love blossoming. Louis Rees-Zammit's girlfriend is a talented footballer. (Image: drewknotts on Instagram ) Louis Rees-Zammit is back in America ahead of the new season, and is loved up with new girlfriend Drew Knotts. The former Wales rugby star spent the off-season back in the United Kingdom with family and friends following his first full season in the NFL. A Jacksonville Jaguars player, Rees-Zammit was part of the 17-player practice squad as their designated International Player Pathway player, but did not get elevated to the main roster to play at any point during the 2024/2025 season. However, he's aiming to get his opportunity this year having re-signed with the franchise. During the off-season, as well as spending time back in the UK, Rees-Zammit visited Thailand with his brother Taylor, and also went public on his relationship with Knotts. The couple have shared photos and videos on holiday in the Dubai desert, taking part in sand-boarding and enjoying an evening meal. More recently they have been pictured at the Strawberry Ball in Plant City, Florida, as well as various other social events. She is 26-year-old social media influencer from Plant City, Florida - where Rees-Zammit plays his American football. She shot to fame online when it was revealed she was dating internet celebrity Tayler Holder. In 2023 it was reported that she was working as a sales development representative for a consumer analytics company called Buxton, but since then, her Instagram following has doubled and it seems her attentions have now been drawn to creating social media content. Article continues below Content cannot be displayed without consent Sporting background Knotts is an accomplished footballer, and has been involved in sport since the age of four. According to the Plant City Observer, she tried her hand at basketball, flag football, gymnastics, tennis, soccer, softball and swimming before settling on football, and always had a passion for running. Despite being made fun of in school for "having a boy name", she grew a reputation for being incredibly speedy, and faster than most of the boys, too. She played at a good level for a number of years as a young child and teen, trying out her hand with Plant City Lancers and Brandon Flames before being selected to play for Elite Clubs National League U14s (which is one of two in Florida). She went on to play for Plant City High School, with whom she scored 10 goals - being the only non-senior player to pull this off. Knotts succeeded further in High School, receiving the Swope Rodante Vanguard Student Athlete Award in December 2016 and winning player of the game six times. Content cannot be displayed without consent Due to injury, when she started at Georgia Southern University in 2017, she did not play any football. She transferred to Southern Mississippi University and played there before graduating in 2021 with a degree in Hospitality Administration and Management. This was the last time she played football competitively. Her brother is also a sportsman, and plays American football for Texas Tech University. Beauty career Alongside her sporting exploits, Knotts has been involved in pageants from a young age. She told the Plant City Observer as a 15-year-old that one thing she liked about the long dresses at pageant competitions was the length of them, and this was because it hid her bruises from playing football. She played many of her football games alongside pageant shows, balancing two of her favourite hobbies. Eleven years ago she was crowned Junior Royalty Pageant in the same season she banged in 10 goals for her high school. Competing in beauty certainly runs in the family, with grandmother Ruby Jean Redman being crowned Florida Strawberry Festival Queen in 1953, with cousin Chelsea Bowden picking up the same award in 2012. "My grandmother has a hallway full of old pictures of my mom and her sisters from when they were growing up," Knotts told the Plant City Observer. "And her Strawberry Queen photos are on the wall. It's so cool because she was in the same pageant. Every time we see it, we ask her about it. She's been able to tell us all these stories from how it changed over time." She suffered a serious knee injury playing football on her 18th birthday in 2016, which required surgery. It threatened the prospect of her competing in the upcoming pageant. "Three weeks before the pageant I was on crutches," she explained. "I wasn't sure that I was going to be able to compete. But I set goals, we got into physical therapy and I worked really hard." However, she fought back to full fitness and managed to compete and won the competition. Content cannot be displayed without consent While she does not take part in any similar competitions right now, she has a big presence on social media, with her style and following online having earned her brand deals and sponsorships, and she models clothes for various brands. For example, last year, she teamed up with Kickstand Cocktails for a collaborative Instagram post. She has almost 30,000 followers on Instagram and regularly posts about her lifestyle and adventures. She has a TikTok account which has a large following but that has not been active lately. Famous ex-boyfriend Knotts shot to fame when it was revealed she was dating internet star Tayler Holder. Their relationship became public in 2023, with Knotts appearing in multiple TikTok videos with Holder, who is also a musician. Holder gets over half a million listeners on Spotify per month, with his top two tracks having around 10 million listens. Content cannot be displayed without consent Article continues below Holder's genre of music is country, which is of course hugely relevant in pop culture right now, and has picked up Male Artist of the Year and Artist of the Year from Up N Country. He has almost 20 million TikTok followers and is therefore the most followed country music star on the app. He also has a stunning 1.2 billion likes in total on his videos. Holder and Knotts announced their breakup in January 2024, meaning that she had been single for almost a year before linking up with Rees-Zammit.
