Aizawl: At the 'Rising Northeast Investors Summit' organised in New Delhi by DoNER on Saturday, Mizoram tourism minister Lalnghinglova Hmar urged businesspeople and organisations to consider investing in Mizoram.
Speaking at the summit themed 'Northeast: The New Hub of Tourism and Hospitality', Hmar said while the northeast has a smaller population than Odisha, the region possesses stunning flora and fauna, rich biodiversity, and pristine culture, making it ideal for tourism development.
"The region is the nearest corridor to the ASEAN countries and occupies one of the most important places in implementation of the Act East Policy," he said, extending an invitation to potential investors.
Hmar emphasised Mizoram's strong potential for adventure tourism, noting that the govt is actively working to maximise these opportunities. "The state hosted the first Asia Urban Downhill mountain bike racing in Aizawl city last year and we are going to organise the same this year," he said.
He highlighted the state's distinctive Christmas celebrations, featuring community feasts across rural villages and urban localities, as a unique attraction unseen elsewhere. The minister noted the region's improved accessibility, with flights to Delhi taking just two and a half hours and to Kolkata 45 minutes. He also mentioned the upcoming railway connection to Aizawl as beneficial for investors. Hmar said the Dampa Wildlife Sanctuary houses Asia's highest concentration of clouded leopards.
He concluded by stating that Mizoram leads as the country's most peaceful state and was the first to achieve complete literacy.

Demolition of century-old N C Ghosh Institute begins to make way for elevated road project

1 2 Patna: Demolition teams on Thursday razed a major portion of the 95-year-old N C Ghosh Institute, established in the pre-British era under the East India Railway (EIR) at Khagaul near Danapur station, to make way for the upcoming Khagaul-Bihta elevated road project. The institute served as a focal point for community gatherings, indoor games and festive events. Known especially for hosting grand Anglo-Indian Christmas celebrations in its heyday, the institute held deep cultural and historical significance for the local populace, said an old timer Alok Das. However, as urban infrastructure expands to meet growing demands, the heritage structure was identified as a major obstruction along the alignment of the elevated corridor. In a bid to balance development with cultural continuity, the railways has announced plans to construct a state-of-the-art facility little distance away from the existing institute on a vacant land in the railway colony area. Talking to this newspaper here on Friday Danapur divisional railway manager ( DRM ) Jayant Kumar Choudhary confirmed that the railways would build a new three-storey multi-purpose hall hardly at a little distance away from the existing institute . by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em São Gonçalo (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo "The ground floor will be developed as a parking facility, the first floor will house 20 rooms for various purposes, and the top floor will feature a large hall with a seating capacity of 400 to 500 people, equipped with all modern amenities," the DRM said. "The govt has already disbursed compensation for the acquisition of land. The new facility is expected to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore for which tenders are being floated and work is expected to commence soon after the bidding process is complete," DRM said, adding the new multipurpose hall which will be completed in two years from now, aims to continue the legacy of the N C Ghosh Institute by offering an upgraded venue for cultural events, community programme and indoor activities, preserving its spirit in a modern avatar. Locals, mostly theatre artists like Sudhir Madhukar and Nawab Alam, have expressed mixed reactions while some lament the loss of a historic landmark, others welcomed the prospect of improved infrastructure and recreational facilities in the area. "Train travel allows me to remain connected with public": Tripura CM Manik Saha

Agartala (Tripura) [India], June 6 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday travelled by a regular passenger train to attend the inauguration and foundation-laying ceremony of 15 major development projects, including a hospital, a primary health centre, and multiple school buildings in Kumarghat, Unakoti district of Tripura. While speaking to ANI during the journey, CM Saha said, 'Train travel is convenient and allows me to remain connected with the public. Since the launch of the Act East Policy by our Hon'ble Prime Minister, connectivity in the Northeast has improved significantly. Common people prefer trains, and so do I.' 'Today I am visiting Kumarghat in the Unakoti district, where I will be inaugurating several important development projects. These include a hospital, a primary health center, school buildings, and more,' he added. Passengers were left surprised but delighted to see the Chief Minister sharing a compartment with them, chatting freely, and listening to their concerns without any political airs. Co-passenger Ataur Rahman, who was travelling to Siliguri, said, 'I'm feeling very happy. I'm travelling from Agartala to Siliguri, and our Chief Minister is sitting beside me. He is talking to everyone around, and it feels really nice to see him mingling so freely with the general public, just like one of them.' Another passenger, Devraj Debnath, remarked, 'I'm feeling very happy. Usually, ministers don't travel by train like this, so I was surprised to see our Chief Minister on the train after I boarded. It felt really good. If he continues to travel like this among common people, he will be able to understand the problems we are facing.' Dibakar Dutta added, 'I'm feeling really happy. The Minister is travelling with common people on the train, and it feels so nice. I've never seen a minister travel like this with ordinary people before.' Speaking about Tripura's progress, CM Saha listed multiple areas of growth under his leadership--healthcare, education, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, tribal welfare, and digital connectivity. He also added, 'As Chief Minister, I have completed three years in office. During this time, I have focused on various sectors like education, health, agriculture, tourism, sports, and tribal welfare. My core objective is to uplift the underprivileged sections of society. I especially focus on ensuring they access basic necessities like housing under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and healthcare under Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana.' He also shared, 'Our state now ranks third in law and order among Indian states and second in per capita income in the Northeast. Six national highways are under construction, and Tripura ranks third in internet strength in India.' On World Environment Day, he reminded people about harmony and sustainability, stating, 'We must live in harmony and work toward protecting our environment. My dream is to take Tripura far ahead through inclusive development and citizen-centric governance.' He spoke about digital outreach via the 'Amar Sarkar' portal, which allows citizens to submit grievances directly to him. 'To ensure that people's problems reach me directly, I've launched a portal called 'Amar Sarkar' where citizens can submit their issues in writing,' he added. Highlighting key achievements, he said, 'There has been significant progress in health and education. We've even established a dental college recently. During my recent visit to Delhi, a business summit was held, and out of Rs 30,000 crore worth of MoUs signed for the Northeast, Rs 15,800 crore was for Tripura.' He concluded, saying, 'There is still much to do in the days ahead. Time is limited, and the work is vast. That's why it is essential to stay healthy and energetic.' (ANI)
