Federal agents conducting immigration raid in Los Angeles County; protest quickly erupts
Video above: Live feed of the scene of ICE activity in Paramount. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted a raid in Paramount on Saturday morning, a day after federal agents raided several locations across Los Angeles. Large groups of protesters quickly assembled near the sites of the raids on both Friday and Saturday. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department confirmed to KTLA just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday that federal officials were conducting enforcement activity in the 6400 block of Alondra Boulevard but explicitly stated they were not in the area to help with their enforcement. '[Deputies] are only there to provide traffic control and general public safety, but they are not assisting the federal authorities at the location,' an LASD spokesperson said. United States Attorney Bill Essayli confirmed on social media that federal law enforcement operations are 'proceeding as planned this weekend in Los Angeles County' and advised that anyone who tries to interfere with their enforcement will be arrested and prosecuted. Footage from the scene taken by KTLA shows both protesters and federal agents throwing smoke bombs as the masked agents formed a skirmish line late Saturday morning. This is a developing story.
