Seattle weather: Scattered showers and chance of storms Tuesday
The Brief
Monday was the wettest day of May so far, with more scattered showers in store for Tuesday.
Drier skies are in the forecast, with temperatures slowly warming.
SEATTLE - A beautiful sunset tonight over downtown Seattle, but we have seen plenty of showers and gusty winds leading up to the sunset.
It was a chilly day even with some afternoon sunshine. Temperatures only warmed into the low 60s.
Rainfall totals from Monday ranged from a quarter to half an inch for the Puget Sound area. This was the wettest day of May so far.
Winds were gusty today, especially in the morning, with gusts peaking at around 35 mph around SeaTac. The strongest winds were reported on Whidbey Island at 51 mph.
Lows tonight will be in the mid to low 40s, which is a little cooler than normal for May, but goes along with the cooler afternoon temperatures.
What's next
Tuesday will be another cool spring day with highs in the low 60s. Scattered showers will be present through the afternoon with breezy winds at times. There will also be the potential for a rumble of thunder into the evening for western Washington.
Showers will taper by Wednesday, with a few mountain showers possible for midweek. Skies will remain mainly dry through the end of the week and temperatures will slowly moderate to more seasonal average by Friday. Memorial Day Weekend looks warmer and drier, but you can't rule out a stray shower.

PETERSBURG BEACH, Fla. - A popular coffee shop in St. Pete Beach reopened its doors on Tuesday nine months after Hurricane Helene. Helene flooded Grove Surf and Coffee with almost three feet of water. What they're saying "As so many others, we were not fully prepared for what we saw," Lindsey Gottschling, who owns the shop with her husband Peter, said. "We have been here for five years at this location, and it was our heart and soul, and to show up and see all the damage that had happened overnight was really shocking, devastating," she said. "So much of the pieces we'd collected and our displays and things we'd had custom-made and artifacts from family, and all these little pieces of us that were here were just gone and covered in water. So, it was really hard to see. It was a hard pill to swallow," Lindsey said. Dig deeper They weren't able to start rebuilding until the spring due to permit delays. "That was something that really hurt," Peter Gottschling said. "Spring is the most important season for us beach businesses. Alot of us survive or not based on how spring business is, so that was really hard. To miss the holidays was hard. To miss spring was really hard," he said. Local perspective They opened the Indian Rocks Beach location just three months before Helene. That shop got six inches of water and was able to reopen faster. They moved managers from the St. Pete Beach location there until Tuesday. Tuesday morning, they reopened the doors to customers. "I keep saying I'm feeling every emotion. I actually feel so much relief and excitement, but it's also just like the reality of the last eight and a half months has completely sunk in. I don't think it fully hit me until just now seeing all the faces that we've missed so much," Lindsey said. "We haven't done this in a long, long time," Peter said. "It definitely gave us some motivation to keep working towards this, like, you know, people will come back and support us once we're able to get the store back," Peter said. "To see the people show up for us after all this, it just means that we did exactly what we wanted to do and accomplish that, and I think we are forever thankful and grateful," Lindsey said. "We can never pay everyone back for what they've given back to us. The people, the customers that showed up after the storm with coolers and shovels, you can't replace that, so we're really, really lucky," she said. They both said they consider customers, especially those who helped them in the aftermath of the storms, family. The shop is open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Sunshine midweek for the Tiers. Bring it on!
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – We are finished with the showers and thunderstorms for the next 24 hours as a drier airmass moves in tonight. Wednesday features more sunshine and a comfortable go of it. However, we are not going to have a chance to get used to the sunshine and stay dry for a while before a more unsettled weather pattern settles in for late week into the weekend. Tonight through part of the day Thursday are expected to be dry and breezy. Thursday night may have an isolated shower or two and those without the rain will see some early morning fog Friday before the next round of rain comes through. El Paso region to dry out, warm up over next few days
We remain under a Severe T-Storm Watch until 9 p.m. in El Paso County. A very unstable and moist atmosphere has delivered heavy rainfall and hail to parts of the Borderland. Do not drive into flooded roadways. Our Weather Watchers captured the forming afternoon storms. A Flood Advisory is posted for the entire west side, Upper Valley, and Santa Teresa and Anapra until 6:45 PM. TONIGHT: KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert due to the potential for strong t-showers, heavy rain, gusty winds in excess of 60 mph, and hail. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is posted until 9 PM. The atmosphere is very moist and unstable, and we can expect widely scattered t-showers. Do not drive into flooded roadways. Late evening, the storms will taper off; however, we could experience random, strong wind gusts well into the night. Variable winds will range from 10-30 mph with stronger gusts near storms. Overnight, the winds will die down, the skies will clear, and the low will drop to 68.
