Manchester United launch transfer bid for Brenford forward Bryan Mbeumo

Manchester United have made a first formal approach for Bryan Mbeumo but have seen their bid rebuffed by Brentford. United are understood to have offered in the region of £45m for the Cameroonian international, with a further £10m in performance-related add-ons, but Brentford are holding out for more than £60m. Mbeumo has only a year left on his contract which gives United some leverage as they look to prise away the 25-year-old, who scored 20 goals and made seven assists in the Premier League last season. But Brentford consider Mbeumo a key player and are prepared to trigger an option in his contract which would extend his stay at the Gtech Community Stadium by a further 12 months in order to keep him. Manager Thomas Frank said last month that Mbeumo's sale was possible but that he would be 'expensive' for potential suitors, who also include Newcastle United. Mbeumo suits United's preference for proven Premier League talent who are yet to reach their peak, following the £62.5m signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Mbeumo also appeals for his versatility, being able to play across the forward line, and for his outstanding fitness record, having played in all 38 of Brentford's league games in two out of the past three seasons. With Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony all expected to leave the club this summer, United need to acquire more attacking options. Mbeumo has the potential to fit into Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 system either as a striker or as one of two No 10s in support. United also want to sign a goalkeeper, a wing-back and a midfielder, but first need to offload a raft of players in order to free up headroom within the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.

Mason Mount told to leave Manchester United and find new club in savage attack'

Mason Mount has endured two injury-ravaged seasons since joining Man Utd from Chelsea, with Old Trafford legend Paul Parker issuing a blunt message over his future at the club under Ruben Amorim Mason Mount has been branded a 'lost boy' and told to leave Manchester United to resurrect his career after two injury-ravaged seasons at Old Trafford. Mount has endured a nightmare time since his £55million move from Chelsea to United in 2023. Injuries have restricted him to just 13 Premier League starts for the Red Devils. The attacking midfielder, who starred for England at the 2022 World Cup, has lost his international place as a result and has seen his career stall since making the move to United. ‌ Against that backdrop, United legend Paul Parker believes it is time for Mount to move on, despite the 26-year-old having got back into the starting line-up towards the end of last season. ‌ "I've said it before, but I just can't ever see him having a key role at Manchester United,' said Parker. "He has no standout qualities and now we're really seeing why Chelsea were happy to let him go. 'He's played a bit because other players have been rested and yes, he's scored, but I haven't seen anything more from him. He's clearly one of those players who would benefit from finding a new club. "I think he needs to figure out who he is as a footballer. What is his identity? He has no identity. Nobody knows what he's actually good at and I don't even think he knows himself. 'He looks like a lost boy out there, so first and foremost he needs to find his identity. Otherwise, he won't succeed at a new club either.' Parker also claimed Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo would be a 'dream signing' for United, who have submitted a £55m bid for the Cameroon international. 'Mbeumo has been absolutely unbelievable,' said Parker, speaking to 'He's had a completely absurd season, and he has only improved since Ivan Toney left the club. What he's done for Brentford is incredible. ‌ 'He owes a lot to Thomas Frank. This is yet another example of why Frank is one of the best managers in the world, because he gets the best out of his players. He's outstanding. 'He would be a brilliant signing for United. A magical signing, because he would be a massive step up from the other players. He would be a dream signing. But does he actually want to leave Brentford? Honestly, I'm not sure. 'It's a fantastic club and if you take away things like money and status, Brentford might just be the best club to play for in the world." How should Burnley approach Premier League return?

We asked for your questions for BBC Sport pundit Nedum Onuoha on your Premier League asked Nedum what resources Scott Parker will need to keep Burnley in the terms of squad building over the last few years, Burnley have ended up having a squad which has gone up in value by a significant amount, more so than other teams we've seen. Maybe that continues to be the model with young players who can continue to develop and be players have that desire to do well and to improve, and I'd primarily give them the chance to do have the young squad they still have now - if you then decide to just invest money into older players, with the objective of just staying in the Premier League, then what happens to your medium to long-term plan in terms of how the football club is designed to operate? I think you've got to create the foundation of who you are and stick to it. If you react to the results, because it's the Premier League, then I think you can lose your identity very, very identity, once it's lost, is a very hard thing to build back and you have to start all over again. It sounds a bit dull if you are a Burnley fan, but stick with the process. Clubs that manage to maintain their identity, can end up doing well. Brentford, for example. They never really deviated away from the model that they have, and now they're an established Premier League side.I think if they would have just gone up and decided to just invest in, say, players who are 28, 31, 32, the club would have changed completely. And who's to say that they'd still be in the league the way that they are now? So yeah, stick with the plan.I think Scott Parker knows what his team's strengths and weaknesses are. He's managed in the Premier League before and has a good idea of what is required to stay up and how the players he has can perform in the style of play he wants.I think for some of those players who were still at Burnley, who were there last time when they were in the Premier League, they want a second chance at this. They want to be able to show how good they probably see growth from some of those players to start with and then it's down to how Parker builds around that. I think you've got to stick with the plan of not spending lots of money on players, but then also be looking at some young players who are looking to put their mark down in the Premier League and, for the club, for their value to go up.
