Diaz in line for Liverpool reunion as Al-Nassr make final Ronaldo decision
Luis Diaz has a decision to make over his future with Liverpool and there could potentially be interest from Saudi Arabia in a move that will see him link up with a former Reds star Al-Nassr have not dropped their interest in Liverpool star Luis Diaz, with the Colombian earmarked for a future move. The winger has long been linked with a switch to Saudi Arabia and they continue to be monitoring developments over his future. Diaz, 28, has just two years remaining on his contract at Anfield meaning Liverpool are running out of time to earn a considerable fee for his services should they choose to sell. While they are keen to keep him, no conversations over a renewed deal have taken place as of yet - something Al-Nassr could yet take advantage of . According to The Telegraph, Saudi chiefs remain interested in him and would like to make a move regardless of if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves the club. The Portuguese superstar is out of contract this summer, albeit there is hope that he will extend his stay. Taking to Instagram recently, the former Manchester United star wrote: 'This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.' Meanwhile, Diaz would also become teammates with former Liverpool star Sadio Mane once again, the pair having shared the dressing room for six months at Anfield. Diaz has already given an insight into his mindset ahead of the summer transfer window. He said: "I'm really happy and I have been like this since the first day I arrived. I've always been very calm and I have really just been enjoying the football played by this great team, being a part of this. 'We will be talking, the talk about it (his future) will happen. For me, I'd stay for as long as possible. It also depends on the club, it all depends on the details. They're all details that are sorted out separately. But I am very calm, very happy and I am enjoying the Premier League." Away from Al-Nassr, Spanish giants Barcelona remain interested in Diaz, with the wideman's Dad admitting a move to the Camp Nou would be a 'dream'. He said: 'It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona supporter and that it would be his dream if he arrived at Barcelona. But, until this moment, thank Porto and Liverpool for the welcome with Luis and the way they received him. 'He is a player who has an easy time earning things because of his way of being, his humility, his work. He gives himself, he is a very disciplined player – thank God. 'If there are chances for Lucho to arrive at Barcelona, he would have no problem. Because it is an elite team and is among the first in the world.' Wallabies coach responds to speculation NRL superstar Nathan Cleary is keen to switch footy codes - 'might want to spread his wings'
Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt hasn't ruled out NRL superstar Nathan Cleary sensationally switching footy codes, declaring the champion halfback 'might want to spread his wings.' It comes after footy legend Tim Horan turned heads earlier this week when he suggested on Stan Sport 's Rugby Heaven that Cleary was 'quite keen' to jump ship. 'I watched the State of Origin,' Schmidt told reporters on Friday. 'He obviously went to Sacred Heart College in New Zealand when Ivan (Cleary) was coaching the Warriors. That's (All Blacks great) Sean Fitzpatrick country. It's certainly a rugby school. 'He (also) played soccer as a young man. He's played league so, you know, he might want to spread his wings and play another sport.' It isn't the first time the gifted Panthers playmaker has been linked to a shock cross-code switch, and with his girlfriend, Matildas star Mary Fowler based in England, the 27-year-old may also seek a fresh sporting challenge abroad. Signing on with Rugby Australia is another option - and that would be a lucrative decision for Cleary. And with the next World Cup on local shores in 2027, rugby fans are hopeful. Cleary made his NRL debut in 2016, and has gone onto win four premierships with the Panthers. He won a World Cup with the Kangaroos in 2022 - and has also chalked up 15 appearances for NSW at Origin level since 2018. Cleary's current NRL contract with Penrith expires at the end of 2027 - and he also previously stated he would be 'open' to new surroundings overseas. 'I'm not against it,' he said. 'I have a pretty open mind to that kind of stuff. 'Being able to experience different cultures is something I enjoy doing.' Adding to the intrigue is Fowler recently stating she has no desire to play in the A-League Women's competition. 'I'm not going to be playing football in Australia anytime soon, if ever,' the Matildas star said.

Matildas coach takes aim at the professionalism of the A-League Women competition despite big win over Argentina
Matildas interim coach Tom Sermanni says Australia has to be at the 'cutting edge' of women's football to remain in contention to win a Women's World Cup. In Thursday's pre-match press conference, Sermanni slammed the professionalism of the A-League Women competition, especially in the wake of the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. After the Matildas' 2-0 win over Argentina on Friday night, Sermanni's 150th game at the helm, the women's football stalwart said he hoped his comments would prompt a 'positive reaction'. 'I always want more for the women's game,' he said. 'That's my job, and it's always been my job, and it's been my job since I first walked into women's football in 1994 and it will continue to be my job. 'And while I've got a position where I can influence things, then it's important that I do that.' Professional Footballers Australia have previously warned of a potential player drain from the ALW if the league is not fully professionalised within the next two years. When asked what a lack of progress could mean for the Matildas' player pathways, Sermanni said: 'It's like any industry, probably, you've got to keep at the cutting edge. 'You can't afford to stay still, and you can't afford to go backwards. It's as simple as that. The world has opened up for women's football. 'Europe has come alive in the last three or four years. The game in the last two to three to four years has expanded more than it did in the 10 years previous to that. 'So we need to keep up with that. And to keep up with that, we need to put certain things in place domestically, and we need to put certain things in place internationally. 'It's important that we do that with everybody on board and everybody pushing in the right direction, and that's A-League people, FA (Football Australia) people and club people.' Australia reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Women's World Cup. When asked whether Australia was getting closer to or further away from winning football's grandest prize, Sermanni said: 'It's getting harder. 'It's not necessarily whether closer or further away. It's actually getting harder because the big countries are investing in women's football.' Sermanni pointed to England and Spain kicking on over the past decade. 'So what's happened is that, there's far more investment in the game worldwide and if South America comes alive, that will make it even tougher. 'When all of our players are fit and healthy, I think we have got a high-quality squad that can compete with anyone in the world. 'And in reality, two years ago, we came close to winning the World Cup
