Malaysia, Turkiye eye MOU to strengthen family policy, says Nancy
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Turkiye are committed to enhancing cooperation in family policy and inclusive social services through a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two countries.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri ( pic ) said the matter was discussed during a meeting with her Turkish counterpart, Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, on Thursday (May 22).
According to Nancy, the meeting provided an opportunity for both parties to discuss shared challenges related to family issues, including declining birth rates and evolving family structures.
"We also exchanged best practices, including incentives for newlyweds and parents in Turkiye, as well as Malaysian initiatives such as the birth savings schemes and efforts to strengthen the institution of marriage,' she said in a Facebook post today.
Nancy said Malaysia also proposed an MOU on women's digital empowerment, as well as community-based care for children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities (OKU).
She added that the initiative aligns with Malaysia's commitment to strengthening a more inclusive social development agenda, particularly in its role as Asean chair in 2025. - Bernama

Madani reform agenda alive, advancing, says Azalina
KUALA LUMPUR: The Madani government has delivered the Parliamentary Services Act 2025 and spearheaded more than 30 legal amendments since 2023, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said ( pic ). "This is not mere rhetoric. It is concrete evidence that the Madani Reform agenda is very much alive and advancing,' she said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (June 11) Azalina said she agreed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's statement yesterday that reform efforts should not be rushed, but rather approached as a structured process requiring thorough consideration. Vertical school in Penang housing project to boost safety, cut costs
KUALA LUMPUR: The integration of a vertical school concept within the Rumah Bakat Madani housing project in Penang is expected to enhance student safety and ease the transportation cost burden on families, said Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The prime minister said that incorporating educational elements into residential development is part of the Madani Government's initiative to build compassionate neighbourhoods and foster community development based on Madani values. Anwar said this approach underscores the government's commitment to promoting holistic well-being for the people, rather than focusing solely on physical structures and architectural design. "The planned vertical school element, integrated with the housing project, aims to ensure student safety, and I believe it can also help families save on transportation costs," he said in a Facebook post yesterday. He also stressed that the Madani Government places strong emphasis on expediting project approvals through collaboration across ministries, agencies and with the involvement of state governments. Anwar said the project is an initiative involving private developer SkyWorld, aimed at enabling low- and middle-income groups to own affordable homes. "I was informed that the development will also include essential infrastructure and comprehensive facilities such as schools and childcare centres, surau, commercial spaces, as well as landscaped areas and parks," he said. Earlier, the prime minister attended a presentation session on the project concept with the developer's representatives in Putrajaya.
